The Lord is My Shepherd, Wednesday

0:00Hey kids, welcome to Junior's for Jesus. Go grab your Bibles. We're gonna be digging in and learning some really exciting stories. Let's get started. Welcome back to the podcast today. Yesterday we learned about how Jesus ministry was incredibly mobile. He spent most of his time traveling in an itinerant fashion, meaning he moved around a lot. He wanted as many people as possible to hear the message of God's truth. His compassion compelled him to go and minister to as many people as he could. Jesus spent much of his time with the masses, healing them, teaching them, praying for them, and having compassion on them. But it didn't just stop with Jesus. The master had already sent the disciples out on a short-term mission trip, two by two, to carry the message of the gospel to the people. And now here in Luke 10, Jesus again commissions 70 of his followers

1:01to go in his name, to proclaim the message of hope to a people in despair. We'll discover that mobilization effort today on the podcast after we recite John 10, 27, and 28 again. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me, and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. Neither shall anyone snatch them out of my hand. John 10, 27, and 28. Wednesday, 70 missionaries, Luke 10, 1 through 27. Jesus was taking a slow, long route from Galilee to Jerusalem. After passing through Samaria, he crossed through the Jordan River into Perria, where crowds of people soon gathered to hear his teaching. Now many of Jesus' followers were with him on this journey. Some of them were in training with him when he had sent his 12 disciples on their mission trip.

2:04So he now chose 70 of these, and sent them out to every place. He was going to visit before he went to Jerusalem. Their instructions were about the same, except the work of the 70 weren't restricted to the Jews. So they went to the Samaritans and others, and their work was very successful. When they returned, they were rejoicing that even demons obeyed them. But there was a better reason to rejoice. What was it? Find out for yourself in Luke 10, 17, and 18. Then the 70 returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name. And he said to them, I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Jesus saw that his work was triumphing over Satan, and heaven would be made secure by his sacrifice. Now read verse 20. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you.

3:04But rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven. Jesus' work in Peria was very successful too. The religious leaders had less influence over the people there than in Judea. Crowds gathered wherever they went, and what he taught those eager listeners prepared them to hear some of the most important parables when he would later return to Peria. But now Jesus went back across the Jordan River into Judea. He was in Jericho teaching a large congregation when a lawyer stood up and asked him an important question. Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life? Well, instead of giving him a list of things to do, Jesus asked, what is it that's written in the law? And he has answered the lawyer quoted the scriptures. Read verse 27. So he answered and said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.

4:08Now let's apply this. Think about that. Obeying the commandments, show our love for God and for others. We can't obey them without that love, 1 John 5, 3. And we don't have that love unless God lives in us, 1 John 4, 16. Oh, how he wants us to do that. He loves us so much and wants to give us a love like this. Even now, he's knocking at your heart's door, Revelation 3, 20. Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
