About this episode
Tom 'Bones" Malone might be the most accomplished and interesting musician in all of entertainment. For the purposes of this show, Tom was the arranger and key member of the CBS orchestra for the entire run of The Late Show with David Letterman. For many, that would be considered legendary. But for Tom, its literally one of many accomplishments on a long list.
A maestro in both theory and practice, Tom has arranged 3,000 pieces of music, many of which were done on the fly. He is currently recording a Big Band record in his house, where he plays all the instruments, and produces all the tracks. Talk about a one man band. He was on the original Saturday Night Live Band where he met Paul Shaffer for the first time, worked on 'The Blues Brothers,' and even helped Paul get the original gig on Late Night. Tom and Mike talk about all these things and more. Eddie Vedder? Yup. The Foo Fighters and Taylor Hawkins? You Betcha. Warren Zevon? Yes, and it's beautiful. This is an episode of The Letterman Podcast that should not be missed. I know, I know. We say that every time. But this one, by gum, this one is legendary, just like Tom.
One last thing: There is a moment Tom talked about where he got a joke on the show-unintentionally. This moment is indeed immortalized as a clip on the internet, and we put it up in 'The Letterman Podcast Facebook Group' which we invite you to join and come take a look at it. Hilarious. As always, The Letterman Podcast is brought to you in part by Rupert Jee's Hello Deli, your source for Late Show with David Letterman merchandise, as well as sandwich's that will knock your socks off. Go to hello-deli.com for the details.
Finally, we cannot wait for a time that we do not have to ask folks to Like, Share, Subscribe, and leave a positive comment for the show. However, that time is not here yet. So please do all of the above. As always, a kitty gets a pet in that sweet spot right between her eyes every time someone does one of those above mentioned actions. A really nice pet, where she can't help but close her eyes real slow in appreciation. Please don't deprive that kitty her pets. #thanksdave #davidletterman #latenight #lateshow #lateshowwithdavidletterman #Thelateshow #thelettermanpodcast #trombone #thebluesbrothers #snl #musician #letterman #thecbsorchestra #paulshaffer #comedy
