The Lengths of His Love

About this episode

What would make someone sweep the whole house, light a lamp, and search relentlessly for a single missing coin?

In today’s episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef explores Jesus’ parable in Luke 15:8–10 and reveals a detail many miss: in Jesus’ day, a woman’s ten-coin headdress (a semdi) signified her engagement—so losing one coin wasn’t minor inconvenience, but a public heartbreak and deep shame. That intensity, Jesus says, pictures how precious you are to God and how far He will go to seek the lost.

But there’s a sobering twist: unlike the lost sheep, the lost coin is missing at home. Dr. Youssef warns that church attendance, Bible studies, and religious familiarity cannot save anyone. Without Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, a person can be just as lost sitting in a pew as someone far from church.

Jesus ends with joy: heaven celebrates one sinner who repents. If you’ve assumed proximity to Christian things equals salvation, this devotional invites you to respond to Christ personally—and be part of the celebration.

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your sacrifice to save me. May I not lose sight of You. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

This is Michael Yusuf, and you're listening to today's My devotional from leading the way. Uncompromising truth for everyday faith. The 27th of March, 2026. The lengths of His love. In Luke 15 verses 8 to 10, here Jesus offers us a parable about a woman who has lost one of her 10 coins. On the surface, this story seems easy to understand, who hasn't lost a coin before. But when we see the lengths to which this woman goes to secure her missing change, we begin to see there must be more going on. In Jesus' day, a woman who was engaged to be married would wear a SIMD, a headdress that contained 10 valuable coins. It was a way of telling the whole world she was off the market. To lose one of the 10 coins that made up her special engagement headdress

was not at all like you or me losing a quarter. How embarrassing it would have been for her if her betroth had shown up and her SIMD were missing one of the coins. It would be like an engaged woman today losing the valuable center stone of the ring her fiance gave her as a son of his love and his intention to marry her. She would do anything to find it. Jesus told this story to illustrate just how valuable we are to God the Father and to what lengths He will go to seek out every one of us. But there is a detail in this parable that many people overlook. Unlike the lost sheep, Jesus described moments before. This coin is missing right at home. There are many people sitting in the pews of churches around the world who think that just because they're in church they're not lost. The truth is being a part of a Bible study won't save you and going to church won't save you. Without Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you will be just as lost at home in the church as others are out in the world.

Jesus ends His parable with a celebration. I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. It's not too late to be part of the celebration. Pray with me. Father, thank you for your sacrifice to save me. May I not lose sight of you. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
