The Israeli military says the brother of the suspect in last week's attack on a synagogue in Michigan was a Hezbollah commander and has been eliminated in a strike. In a post on X today, Israel defense forces say Ebrahim Muhammad Ghazali was responsible for managing weapons operations within a specialized unit that launched hundreds of rockets at Israeli civilians.
His brother, Amon Muhammad Ghazali, is accused of driving a truck full of fireworks and jugs of gasoline into the synagogue near Detroit. He reportedly had posted online the night before that several of his relatives had been killed in an Israeli air strike in southern Lebanon. Energy Secretary Chris Wright says there's a good chance gas prices will fall below $3 a gallon by summer. It is a short-term disruption in the flow of energy. Americans are feeling it right now. Americans will feel it for a few more weeks. Wright made the prediction on NBC's Meet the Press. Wright said he's optimistic that will happen since the U.S. will have removed the risk of Iran's threat on global energy supplies in a few more weeks. Sean Penn is this year's Oscar award winner for actor in a supporting role. The actor won for his role in the film, One Battle After Another. McCulley Culkin accepted the award on Penn's behalf as he didn't attend the 98th Academy Award ceremony. Other nominees in the running included Jacob Allordy, Benizio del Toro, Stellan Scarsgard and Del Roy Lindo.
Earlier Amy Madigan won the Oscar award for actress in a supporting role. Sinners is the most nominated film in Oscar history with 16 nominations. One Battle After Another follows with 13 nominations. Duke is the top overall seed with Arizona, Michigan and Florida, the other number one seeds for this year's men's NCAA basketball tournament. NC State, Texas, SMU and Miami of Ohio were the last four teams selected for the field. The tournament gets underway with the first four games taking place Tuesday and Wednesday with the final four set for April 4th in Indianapolis. I'm Rob Martyr. In the Southwest, millions are bracing for an extreme heat wave. The National Weather Service says the Los Angeles area will be hit with an extremely rare, long-duration heat wave starting Monday, with temperatures up to 35 degrees above normal, lasting possibly through Friday. The heat wave could break daily high temperature records across the region and could set some all-time records for the month of March. The extreme heat will hit Arizona later in the week when afternoon highs in the Phoenix area could hit triple digits, possibly breaking a March record.
The State Department has cut the fee Americans paid to renounce their U.S. citizenship. Jim Forbes has more. Under a new rule that went into effect on Friday, the fee was lowered by nearly 80% bringing the cost down from over $2,300 to $450. The State Department said in the rule that it lowered the fee as a policy decision to reduce the cost burden on people seeking a certificate of loss of nationality. The Department estimates nearly 5,000 people apply each year for the certificate to renounce their citizenship. I'm Jim Forbes. Scientists may have discovered a pill to treat sleep apnea. A European clinical trial found that the drug, Sultheam, was remarkably effective in reducing breathing interruptions in people with moderate to severe sleep apnea. Researchers at the University of Gothenburg in Germany say patients taking higher doses had up to 47% improved oxygen levels and fewer pauses in breathing during sleep.
The feds announcing they are backing an air taxi program that connects Texas's big cities. Tex Dots, Sergio Roman says right now they're building a highway in the sky. At first, he says the aircraft will carry packages. The next phase includes people. The price of an ad-free prime video subscription is going up. Amazon announced Friday upgrading to the ad-free tier will cost $4.99 per month starting April 10th. On top of the cost for an Amazon prime subscription. I'm Rob Martier.
