A week ago, the national average was at $3.19. Flashback to a month ago and we were at $2.93. Drivers in California are feeling the most pain at the pump with the statewide average at $5.33 a gallon. That's the reason for the high bail amount for attempted murder suspect Ivana Ortiz. The Florida resident is being held on more than $10.2 million bail. A man said to be executed in Alabama is having his sentence commuted to life without parole. The latest from Chris Caragio. Charles Sonny Burton was scheduled to be executed via nitrogen gas on Thursday, but Alabama governor K.I.V. has intervened, saying the execution would be unjust. I.V. issued a statement explaining that she believes it would be unjust for one participant in this crime to be executed while the participant who pulled the trigger was not. Burton was one of six men involved in the robbery of an auto zone store that ended with the murder of a customer and due to the felony murder doctrine prosecutors are allowed to treat anybody involved in certain felonies equally responsible for a killing that occurs during the crime.
