The White House is backing off of peace talks with Iranian leaders. President Trump says he wants no deal with the wrong quote, except unconditional surrender. But yesterday, sent com commander, Admiral Brad Cooper said, the U.S. struck over 200 Iranian targets over the course of 72 hours.
Meanwhile, Israel continues to bomb Iran's capital, Tehran, and Lebanon, where it's targeting the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia. Trump is now saying he wants to personally play a role in the selection of Iran's next supreme leader after initial strikes killed Iran's Ayatollah. Cuba could be President Trump's next country of focus. The president floated the idea during a phone interview with CNN on Friday and said, quote, Cuba is going to fall pretty soon. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has previously warned that Cuban government officials should be, quote, concerned and said they were in a lot of trouble. According to Trump, Cuba wants to make a deal and he plans to send Secretary Rubio to the country. There are several reports that San Diego Congressman Daryl Issa will retire and not run for re-election. Jack Cronin has this story. Trump 50 changed the boundaries of the districts in California and San Diego to favor Democrats, including ISIS 48 congressional seat, which now includes different parts of San Diego and Riverside counties.
I said previously been asked by others in the National Party to possibly run for Congress in Texas for eventually saying he would run in his current district. But now appears he's not running for re-election, mirroring a movie made in 2018, when the voter registration changed in his previous seat for him to come back in 2020 in different district. Reports say San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond will switch races and run for the Republican seat to nicest place. And Quentin Tarantino is making a directorial comeback with an original play he's written. That's according to the Daily Mail, which reports he's written a quote, old-fashioned British farce that is set to open in the West End. I'm Jim Forbes. Gas prices are up once again. AAA reports the national average cost for a gallon of regular gas is now $3.32. That's a jump of $0.7 from Thursday and $0.34 from a week ago. This comes as the U.S. continues military operations in Iran. A weekly increase like this hasn't been seen since March of 2022 during the start of the Russia Ukraine war.
The Los Angeles City Council is holding off on a formal resolution regarding the leadership of the 2028 Summer Olympics organizing committee. Sharon Reardon has this story. The measure site's concerns tied to Casey Wasserman's reputation regarding his past association with convicted sex trafficker Galen Maxwell and files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Fox LA reports an internal review commissioned by the LH-28 Executive Committee and conducted by a prominent law firm found no evidence of a relationship beyond a single 2003 humanitarian flight and previously known emails. Wasserman is since apologized for the decades old contact and says he plans to sell his marketing agency to focus on the games. City officials offered no reason for the delay. I'm Sharon Reardon. Post holiday shopping numbers are coming in below expectations. Commerce Department data released Friday showed retail sales fell two tenths of a percent in January after virtually no change in December.
Analyst blame the dip on severe winter weather on a yearly basis total sales rose 3.2 percent from January of 2025. And SAG-AFTRA and other major studios are extending negotiations into next week. The performers union started bargaining in February for the first time since the 2023 strike with expectations the talks would run through March 6th. In the joint statement both sides said SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP will extend negotiations into the week of March 9th. I'm Jim Forbes.
