President Trump's cabinet is seeing its first major shake-up of his second term. Christy Nome is out as Homeland Security Secretary. She was fired by President Trump on Thursday. Oklahoma Senator Mark Wayne Mullins says he found out he's been selected as her replacement shortly before President Trump announced the news. Chris Courageo with more. Mullin made the comment to reporters outside the Capitol. No, I, you know the President, I still got to communicate. So we'll talk about it moving forward. But I appreciate it, guys. Meanwhile, Christy Nome touted her achievements
while speaking at a conference in Nashville shortly after Trump broke the news of her firing. She went through the number of dangerous criminals her department got off the streets and other accomplishments. Nome is yet to comment on the firing. In a post on Truth Social, President Trump said Mullin will replace her at the end of the month. Trump said Nome has served the U.S. well and will become special envoy for the shield of the Americas. A new initiative in the Western Hemisphere that's set to be announced Saturday. I'm Chris Courageo. The conflict in Iran is continuing and with it a growing sense of unease is building across the entire Middle East. It's been almost a week now since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran, killing the Ayatollah and leaving the country to face a power void. President Trump is now saying he wants to personally play a role in the selection of Iran's next Supreme Leader. Tom Yamis spoke with Iran's foreign minister. President Trump has not ruled out boots on the ground in Iran. Are you afraid of a U.S. invasion in your country? No, we are waiting for them.
You were waiting for the U.S. military to invade the ground troops? Yes, because we are confident that we can confront them. And that would be a big disaster for them. House Speaker Mike Johnson says the U.S. is not at war and has no intention of being at war. He made the remarks Thursday, shortly after the House defeated a war power's resolution. I'm Michael Casner. America's conflict with Iran is sending gas prices up and experts say that won't change any time soon. Matt McLean with Gasbud, he says, prices are only heading in one direction. The unfortunate aspect prices are not going to remain where they are and the really unfortunate part they're not going to be falling from where they are. In Los Angeles, the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular is $4.88. That price jumped nearly eight cents in just one day. That's the biggest one day jump in local gas prices since 2023. The respiratory virus, human metanumovirus, or HMPV is spreading in California,
more from Tammy Trehio. HMPV has been found in wastewater in parts of Northern California. It's high in several cities, including San Francisco, Marin, Palaiho, Napa, Novato, Santa Rosa, Mercedes, Sacramento, and Davis. Lower levels have been seen in Los Angeles County. HMPV is not a new virus, but its usual seasonal pattern changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Immunity to viruses like HMPV decreased during the pandemic, so people may be more susceptible now. The illness usually lasts from winter to spring and causes cough, fever and congestion, and spreads through surface air and close contact. There's no vaccine for HMPV. Netflix is acquiring an AI filmmaking startup, founded by actor Ben Affleck, Matt Matinson with more. Inter-positive built an AI model based on existing production dailies, letting the filmmaker introduce that model into the post-production process. It then provides the ability to mix and color, relight shots, and add visual effects. Netflix says it saw Affleck's company providing a unique set of AI tools that keeps filmmakers at the center of the process.
The streaming service will offer access to the tech to its creative partners, having no plans to sell it commercially. Saturday Night Live is bringing back Ryan Gosling. The actor is hosting this weekend with Gorillas as the musical guest. I'm Michael Casner.
