The House voted down its war powers resolution that would have limited President Trump from carrying out further military action in Iran. On this vote, the A's are 212. The A's are 219. The concurrent resolution is not adopted.
The vote Thursday was mostly down party lines with Democrats voting for it, Republicans against. It comes after the Senate declined a similar resolution on Wednesday. The effort was largely seen as symbolic because President Trump would likely veto the measure if it was passed. It comes as Iran vows revenge after the U.S. sunk one of its warships. Meanwhile, the Strait of Hormuz has been virtually empty after Iran threatened to attack any ship that traveled through it, which has caused gas and oil prices to surge. Gas prices are soaring across the U.S. since the start of the military operation against Iran. Details from Mark Mayfield. Triple A reports the national average jumped nearly 27 cents since last week to 325 a gallon. We haven't seen a similar weekly jump since March of 2022 during the start of the Russia-Ukrain War. Political reports the Trump administration is considering a temporary holiday on the gasoline tax to ease prices. President was responding to reports that the late Ayatollah Ali Hamini's son is set to take that role, which Trump told Axios was unacceptable, although Trump acknowledges that 56-year-old Moshtaba Hamini is the most likely successor. Trump fired Nome on Thursday saying she'll become special envoy for what he calls the shield of the America's new initiative in the Western Hemisphere. Trump didn't provide a reason for the move, but multiple reports say the president was upset after Nome told Congress he'd signed off on a $220 million DHS ad campaign that prominently featured her face. Nome is the first cabinet member to depart Trump's cabinet during his second term. New York and 23 other states are suing the block president Trump's new tariffs just weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court found his previous levees illegal, Sarah Lee Kessler with more. His latest attempt is nothing more than an effort to sidestep the Supreme Court and impose tariffs that the president does not have the authority to enact. New York Attorney General Letitia James making the announcement through a stay in a joint
news conference that included organ AG Dan refilled. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York issued a report, including that Americans, not foreign countries or companies, are paying for 87% of his unlawful tariffs. Driving up costs, James says, for consumers, companies and states. These policies are also creating economic chaos. Britney Spears is in some legal trouble after allegedly driving under the influence in California, she was arrested Wednesday night and made sure a county but has since been released.
