The Middle East is in conflict. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ala-Khamenei is dead, killed over the weekend in a joint US-Israeli military operation. Chaos quickly enveloped the region with retaliatory strikes, hitting targets in a number of countries, including Israel, Dubai, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, and Kuwait.
Three US service members have been killed so far with President Trump warning of more casualties to come. And sadly, there will likely be more before it ends. That's the way it is, likely be more, but we'll do everything possible without won't be the case. Law enforcement is on high alert in major cities after the weekend military strikes on Iran. FBI Director Cash Patel is ordering federal counterterrorism and intelligence to mobilize all security assets needed. This after a fatal mass shooting at a bar in Austin, Texas, Sunday, by a man who allegedly worn Iranian flag design. Security has been heightened in cities like Washington, D.C., New York, and Los Angeles. Gas prices are expected to go up soon. Rob Martyr explains. Nationwide, the average price of a gallon is currently $2.98, and the experts say it will go up a couple of cents as early as this week. It's not just because of uncertainty in the Middle East. Supply will also be low because refineries in the United States are in the process of switching to a more expensive summer blend fuel.
Experts also warn that prices could spike if there are disruptions in shipping from the Persian Gulf. NBC News is reporting that the man was a Senegalese national and a naturalized U.S. citizen living in Texas who had a history of mental illness. Images from the scene at Buford say popular beer garden in downtown Austin show the suspect wearing camouflage pants and a hoodie with the words property of a lot. There are reports that a caron was found in his vehicle and some indication that there was an Iranian flag on his undershirt.
Authorities say it's too early to determine whether the shooting was motivated by political or religious ideology. A suspect was shot and killed by officers following the rampage. I'm Mark Mayfield. Investors are closely watching gold futures, which are positioned for a strong opening Monday amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. Gold futures rose above $5,200 an ounce over the weekend as traders brace for further gains. The surging gold prices reflects investor's fear of disruptions in oil and gas distribution and a general flight to traditionally secure assets. At issue is ticket masters 2010 merger with Live Nation, the largest owner of arenas and the biggest concert promoter on the planet.
