2:02Kevin Kerry. Thanks for jumping on sports 1440 this morning. Really appreciate it. Much appreciated here. Forgive the sunglasses, the whole thing that's going on. It became a morning show trend of mine in the morning, though, where I basically just rip Bob McCown and grab a pair of sunglasses. You look like a young, you look like a young Bob McCown. That's what every young sportscaster wants to hear. A face like Bob McCown. But nevertheless, say a good morning and hopefully people are feeling good and not so not just. I don't even know if it's Bob McCown here. I'm thinking like like you look like someone over at K 97 that just got off here in the morning shift. Yeah, the John Lennon, Ozzy Osborne type of round rim glasses. Well, hopefully we can get through this here. You don't

3:05need to need a belt or something to get you through this next 10 minutes or so, Michael. But I mean, last night, again, we talked about it off the top. This is another situation where you know, the offense bails out what we see from this team defensively. And last night, I mean, they they talked about their comeback and they're happy with the comeback. They, you know, they deserved to get the two points with the way they played offensively. And you know, they reiterated that post game. But again, they come back to where we got to tighten things up down the stretch or we're not going to have the success that we've had. So maybe just to take from your end watching the game last night, Michael. Well, it's yeah, in a lot of ways, it just encapsulates the whole boiler season, you know, they have the big boys and the offensive talent to to overcome mistakes that they make and will they or won't they? You know, I think this is the 11th game in a row, where the total amount of goals in the way there's game exceeded seven.

4:12So, you know, you just tend to think the others are scoring a lot, their opponents are scoring a lot. That's been the trend as of late. And, you know, in the second period, I'm sure no one likes to see the third and fourth goals go in that the way that they do. But the third period, they tilt the ice. Once again, they battle and find a way to force over time. I think Jack, Michael said the stat that it was their fourth six on five goal in their last six home games. Well, which isn't a recipe for success because that means you're coming back and you're coming back. And but that shows you how good they are. Six on five. They scored a five on four goal in the beginning part of the third period. And then they score a four on three goal in overtime. They got a text here. And obviously I was down in the game. So, and I didn't notice this, this came from Connor morning. Did anyone else notice the third goal that Ottawa scored should have been blown dead on the dump in shot, incrimplated into the netting? Not sure how to know and saw it.

5:17I believe they could challenge it since the puck didn't leave the zone before the goal. Now, I didn't see anything like this in the in the rank at Rogers. Was there anything mentioned on the broadcast here? No, no, I, I'd have to look at it again, but that wasn't meant to know, nor on the broadcast are really outside of no, I haven't heard that. So that's interesting that, you know, there was that scenario and then kind of in the San Jose game, we're talking about, you know, the other's video coaches, I think historically have been very good, but then was it or wasn't it offside on the charts for the one nothing goal. You know, we're probably talking about a more if the others don't come back and win last night, but you touch on it there with, yeah, that's not necessarily the best stat having to score six on five all the time. I don't know what to make of this team. Their up is down, down is up with them. They don't necessarily follow, you know, trends of normal hockey teams because there's the types of things that they do,

6:24that you think, well, this isn't an elite team. And then on the other hand, they do things that they shouldn't be able to do offensively and continue that trend. So I find them a very hard team to evaluate because they're glaring breakdowns. They can just tilt the ice for a complete period in Ingram Watt and to face two shots in the third period or something in all three lines when they put it into overdrive. They're very hard to beat. Michael Manzies from Moilers Nation are guest on sports 1440. I never mentioned much about Josh Samansky in my opening statement, but I really thought that he was involved in the play last night. And I thought at times, you see him having that recognition of being cognizant of what he needs and where he needs to be defensively. What kind of role do you think he can play for this team down the stretch here? Well, I'm fascinated here of what might happen over the next couple of days about, you know,

7:27who or what do the others acquire. Curtis Lazar went out last night. You know, they're center roles. I think that their whole really forward group is like a lot of different Lego pieces that you could build in one way, disassemble and then build in another way. And that's kind of how Chris Naublock is as approached at times with the variety of different players that have played center. And I think Samansky, I think he's staying up. Like I don't foresee him coming back down. I think he's impressed over the last month. And I think Naublock's trust in him starts with the play away from the puck, you know, it's his positioning. And so I think he's going to be he's going to be a cog in this bottom six. And he's going to get some looks. Now as the games get more important, does that happen more on the wing than its center? I'm not sure. We, you know, we've seen Henry play most of his career at center. Can Henry's foot speed continue to play center?

8:33Fredericks played a little center. You know what I mean? Like they've they've got these different pieces that have tried in these roles. And hopefully with Lazar, he's not out too long because he's really forced his way into being an everyday player with this hockey team after a signing where always a depth piece. Yeah, like with Samansky, last night, the game script dictated how much he was going to play, because when you're down four or two after, and I think he was about five and a half minutes ball park, or maybe just under five somewhere in there, five to five and a half after 40 minutes, he finished at just over eight, but when you're coming from behind, he's not going to be the guy that's on the ice for the most part, but there's a role for him here. I'm not sure exactly where it's going to be in the sense of because of what the others are looking at to add for a possible 3C, so that pushes him down. I don't think he's ready for a long extended playoff run or down the stretch as a 3C, but there's something there, and I think I agree with you. For the most part, I see him

11:47being up here in what role moving forward. It remains to be seen. Michael Menzies with us here on sports 1440. What did you make of the Connor Murphy trade who arrived in town last night? Michael. I thought it was a responsible trade win for Stan Bowman. It's a price and item thing, you know, a second round pick where the black cocks routine half of Murphy's salary. I mean, look, the Bowman and his team of capologists were like Soviet gymnasts in the 24 hours leading up to the deal. I mean, everything that they did to manipulate the salary cap with, you know, putting Monjupani in regula down, calling up the kids, but Howard, just a paper transaction, the LTIR of the end mark, you know, there was a lot of different cap stuff that was going on, so, you know, obviously they deserve a bit of credit, but, you know, it's not a, it's not a wow

12:51of a trade, but it's, I think it's a trade win for the Oilers, and look, I mean, last night's another example of what Murphy should do well against, and that's that 4-2 goal, you know, if the Oilers are going to get tough to play against in front of their net and those, you know, greasy areas, I mean, that's what Murphy does. I'm not, I'm not the most well versed into hockey analytics, but there's a few different models that have Murphy as one of the most, you know, elite defensive defenseman in the NHL, and he was part of a very good penalty kill, Chicago, so I, it's hard to hate the move, I think. Yeah, I'm with you there. It's, I mean, it's just a very good move, I think, in the sense too, that, and I like your analogy on that 4th goal, because that was a hot mess in front. Adam Henrique had a broken stick, though, Stasney was tangled up, and he

13:51actually wanted a penalty call because of how he was tangled up, and he sort of had a cannel per in on a guy who was holding his stick as well. But I agree, and I mean, Murphy's a big guy, and whoever's, whoever's he's going to be partnered up with, and I would say if, if Walman's out any time here and doesn't play, and if it is Darnell Nurse, at least there's some big size and some mobility there, and Murphy and Nurse can, can, maybe somehow get something going together, because they need a second pair here that can take a little heat off of Bouchard and echo him. Who's on your wish list here, Michael, as far as, you know, we got two more days, about 48 hours and plus, and change for the trade deadline. Who would be on your wish list? And I mean, let's talk about it in the sense that it's feasible and doable. Well, yeah, I remember making wish lists for Christmas, and then there's the stuff that, like, your top wish list and mom and dad get it, and they're like, no, don't expect this thing,

14:52but dream on, kid. That player would be Ryan O'Reilly. And I don't know how they make that happen. It doesn't seem like O'Reilly's on the move, but Barry Trots is busy here, and he kind of fleeced Bill Garen yesterday. I don't know, a second-round pick for... For McCaren, yeah, and there was the two trades that Nashville sent out, McCaren and Smith, so... Yeah, yeah, I mean, that's a good return for McCaren. There's no question about that. Yeah, so Trots is busy, and if Trots is busy, hey, I'd like to have the Ryan O'Reilly conversation. I mean, nothing wrong with that, Michael, he took a stick to the eye area last night, too. Yeah, yeah. So, does that shave a round off a pick? I don't know, but I don't anticipate that. I am soft on Bobby McMahon, as well, for my own personal reasons. He grew up in Wainwright, and he's a bondable Pontiac, and so...

15:52He just can't have it because he played for the Pontiacs or what? Yeah, AJ-Cell MVP, buddy. So, you know what, McMahon... I think McMahon is a very solid pro. What I'm leery about for any move, and Murphy was kind of in this category, but the price wasn't that high. It's just the pure rental. I'm not sure you can sink, especially having done one move for defensemen who may be gone past this year. I'm not sure you can make a second move, and have it be a pure rental, and assign all these assets with where the oilers are. I get, you're going to improve the team. You're going to give McDavid and Drysaddle a big chance to try and chase Stanley Cups, so that McDavid doesn't have to hear about all this all the time. Well, with that said, I don't think they can just go guns of blazing here on players that don't have any term either, so it's going to be interesting, and I'm curious how they get rid of

16:57the Magiapani contract, too. That's the next step here. I mean, that's the next step in what they can do to maybe grab a 3C. So, that has to be tied to something, or it has to be a separate deal. So, it could be one, it could be two deals, depending on how they go about getting rid of Magiapani, for sure. I mean, it doesn't get any tougher than the four teams that they're going to face, and then even it's a back-to-back with St. Louis, the fifth game here, but this is a tough, tough stretch here. Well, and that makes last thanks win all the more important, because if they were coming in and let you say it ended four, two, the third period doesn't happen, and then you're staring down the barrel of Carolina, Vegas, Colorado, Dallas. The oilers are certainly going to go through the strength of the NHL here over the next four games,

18:02including Vegas, because they're divisional status and that. It's a test of their medal. You know, the sharks are coming on. Seattle, I kind of think they're fake news, but they keep getting points. They keep getting wins. So they're right in the mix, and you know, Anaheim, that was a big loss, but they're playing Colorado. So look now, we're in a bit of standings watching here, which I didn't anticipate, you know, being in March 3rd last night, like, yes, the sharks lost. There's a lot more of the standings watching going on. I mean, I'd say we'll find out a lot more about this team after this four or five game stretch, but I kind of expected to be the same as what it was. I think they'll probably win a couple nicely and lose a couple poorly and try to come back and maybe do come back and what, you know what I mean? Like,
