As we welcome back Julian Edlow from draft kings you can check out his work at draft kings dot com good morning Julian you're with Kevin Kerry thanks for jumping on sports 1440 is always really appreciate it. Julian can you hear suggest a little scratchy there how you doing now can yours. He's featured a couple of games and previewed a couple games on draft kings dot com how we how we make it out now Julian is our connection a little clear.
You guys got me good now perfect yeah outstanding got you now he thanks as always for coming on really appreciate it. Yeah of course loving on you guys yeah so hey before we get to day number two of March madness what caught your eye in in day number one with so many close games in the early part of the schedule and then some blow it's later but they're at the minute couple games that really impressed you and caught your eye. Yeah I mean upsets were kind of back and that's why people you know the public loves March madness that's why we watch March madness it had been kind of heavy on favorites the last few years. There weren't many Cinderella's and when there were Cinderella's they were. You know at least shorter on the point spread so at least betting market saw saw them coming yesterday there were a lot that we didn't see coming you know with constant was up eight points late on high point high point just flips that game around and and wins it. You know underdogs were coming through underdogs went ten and six against the spread.
Fix underdogs one outright which we haven't seen on you know one of these opening days of the NCAA tournament in a while and then some of the fashions that they won and I'm bitter about it because I was a North Carolina better. I haven't seen a meltdown like that in a long time North Carolina you know a blue blood program yes they're without Caleb Wilson their best player you're up 19 points in the second half. You're up 17 points with about seven minutes to go and they just completely melted down I don't think they scored a field goal for the last eight minutes of clock time when you include overtime missed fixed free throws in that span and VCU has a kid come off the bench and score 35 points but that's the NCAA tournament where anything can happen I know VCU. Longest money line odd you could get in game on them they were 35 to one late in the second half on draft Kingsport spoken they came through so. It was a wild day not that anyone had this ticket but just having some fun with numbers the six underdogs that won yesterday in the NCAA tournament if you had sat down yesterday morning and made a 16 money line parlay with those 16s you were getting 273 to one.
Wow that's unbelievable holy smokes you know Julia I had to go to the Edmonton oeters game last night I left the house and VCU was down by 15 as you mentioned they were down by 19 I left the house at 15 I was watching the game getting ready I said well this one's over this one's done I said I mean I had VCU in my bracket I said it's done it's gone and then I get to the game and someone said yeah no VCU one I said you got to be kidding me. It was as improbable of an NCAA tournament as I come back as I've seen in a while I saw I didn't I wouldn't have had this I saw that was the largest come back in NCAA tournament history if we just keep it to the first round. Yeah 19 points largest come back in NCAA tournament history in the first round so yeah I didn't have that one on my bingo card yesterday. Julian Edelow with us from draft Kings dot com you're one of your articles with your preview today with Miami and Missouri maybe just a letter listeners know what you got in that game what you're thinking with a seven versus a 10 here.
Yeah I do like Miami as a as a short favorite you can play him cheap enough that I think you can just go money line there but if you want to lay a point and a half go ahead. I think a lot of people are going to be telling you that this game is in St. Louis Missouri's the only team that really has like home court we could say in the first round it's obviously going to be a Missouri crowd it's not in their building but in their home state. Miami is a team that's unfazed by that Miami is eight and two straight up and against the spread on the road they're four no straight up as a road favorite they won those four games by almost 10 points per game. They've been a really good road team so I think that when you dig into that a little more you know would there be some teams that if they had to play a road game in the first round of the NCAA tournament it would impact them yes. I just think Miami is not one of those teams Missouri is led by Mark Mitchell kind of their their senior he transferred a couple years ago from Duke a really good talent but in terms of what they have around him. I think Miami matches up well they have some strong guard play they're good on the interior Miami is a top 40 offensive and defensive efficiency team based off the numbers on Ken Palm which always gives you good balance in the NCAA tournament.
Missouri finished 50th and offensive efficiency and 70th second and defensive efficiency so they're well behind in those numbers and then Miami is a top 10 team in the country in terms of rebounding rate. If Miami is going to rebound the ball get themselves some second chance opportunities and be more efficient on both sides of the ball as they were for the entirety of the season leading up to now. I think Miami is clearly the better team and we're getting a shorter number based off where the game is being played so the numbers say Miami but again use caution in the NCAA tournament you guys saw the games yesterday. Yeah. Julian Edelow from drafting draft Kings dot com that's where you can find his work at draft Kings dot com. Julian Edelow with us on the Kevin Kerr show in sports 1440 well you know my producer the Ducu Delburn Brandon Douglas he always lines up here. He says that he's got Hofstra over Alabama in a 13 versus 4 what say you Julian.
Yeah that's that one's getting a little trendy Hofstra is a good team good guard play speedy claxon who is obviously a first round pick as a as a small guard from Hofstra back in the day he's been attracting good guard play there and they've been making a little bit of noise Alabama is a tall task they're going to play fast they're going to score. I do think Alabama is a good fade in the NCAA tournament like even if they beat Hofstra if Texas Tech can get past Akron I would really like Texas Tech on Sunday they obviously have a lot going on with Aiden Holloway who has some legal issues in Tuscaloosa so you're losing one of your two star guards. That's going to impact their three point shooting he makes a lot of threes for them Alabama likes to run and make threes Alabama is just one of those teams they don't play defense. I use the offensive and defensive efficiency and I like to use some of those and say what have they been lately Alabama is a hundred and ninth nationally over the last six weeks in defense of efficiency.
So Hofstra should be able to score I mean Alabama is you know just a revolving door on defense the question is is Hofstra going to be able to get stops and sometimes Alabama can just beat themselves because they take so many threes and whether they're going in or not they're going to keep shooting them and they're missing one of their best. So I just think it's a really hard game to project so if you want to take points with Hofstra or put Hofstra through in your brackets. I really can't argue with you because it's impossible to wake up and say today's the day Alabama is going to go you know six of 40 from downtown. Yeah well I mean for a team to be ranked 363rd nationally in two point attempt percentage that's nuts for Alabama. Yeah they don't they don't want them three is more than two. They don't want them as well. Julian Edelow with us on sports 1440 the game that's going to tip off here in about all seven or eight minutes should be interesting with Kentucky and Santa Clara. This is my upset for Santa Clara to beat a 10 over number seven rank Kentucky your thoughts on this one to kick off the slate here on day two.
Yeah Santa Clara is super popular and I see it with them they you know they're top 25 and offensive efficiency there an impressive shooting team they don't turn it over too much. Kentucky has been a let down this was a top 10 pre season team that wound up getting a seven seed they took some injuries. I went what I now feel is almost against the grain now I'm on Kentucky in this game I think their size and athleticism is really going to be a lot for Santa Clara. You know they lost both games to Gonzaga and Gonzaga is really good but I think Kentucky with just the size and the athleticism is something that they haven't seen. Kentucky is a pretty balanced team top 40 and offensive efficiency top 30 and defensive efficiency. I just think if they can lock down on defense for some turnovers getting transition I think the rebounding in the paint the size in the paint they'll get some second chance opportunities. I like Kentucky but it is going against what a lot of people are on with this Santa Clara team and they have been good I didn't when I saw the bracket it wasn't oh I want to go against Santa Clara.
I just thought it might be a good match up for Kentucky and one little nugget to point out on this game I just we did it out a little while ago at Julian at low. This is by far the earliest tip off that Santa Clara way out in California has played this season 12 15 9 15 a.m. body clock for for the Cali guys the earliest game they've played all season they played one game that tipped off before 6 p.m. East Coast time they played at 5 p.m. Loyola Chicago back in December they lost that game is a 15 and a half point favorite so I take it for what it's worth doesn't mean anything about today. But the only time we've seen Santa Clara play early at all they did not look good in this game is almost 5 hours earlier. That's not even a morning shooter on time for them body clock wise no they're still they're still in bed they're waiting to get breakfast and go to practice. Howdy howdy ho and welcome to fantasy fanfellas I'm Hayden producer of the fantasy fangirls podcast and your resident lover of all things sander sent and I'm Steven your bookish internet goofball but you can call me the smash daddy and we are currently deep diving Brandon sander since fantasy epic Miss born but here's the catch Steven here has not read Miss born before that's right hey so each week you'll get my unfiltered raw reactions to every single chip and along the way we'll do character deep dive.
Magic explainers and Steven will even try to guess what's next spoiler alert he'll be wrong news flash I'm never wrong episodes come out every Wednesday and you can find fantasy fanfellas wherever you get your podcasts. The hustle doesn't have to hurt if performance pressure is making it hard to breathe grow therapy helps you navigate stress set boundaries and actually feel like yourself again. Whether it's your first time in therapy or your 50th grow makes it easier to find a therapist who fits you not the other way around you can search by what matters like insurance specialty identity or availability and get started in as little as two days there are no subscriptions no long term commitments you just pay per session grow helps you find therapy on your time. Whatever challenges you're facing growth therapy is here to help grow accepts over 100 insurance plans including Medicaid in some states sessions average about twenty one dollars with insurance and some pay as little as zero dollars depending on their plan visit growth therapy dot com slash start now to get started that's growth
therapy dot com slash start now availability and coverage vary by state and insurance plan. Julian Edlow from draft kings dot com that's where you can find his work on the Kevin Kerr show in sports 1440 because of the injuries with Texas tech play number 12 Akron here it seems that are you seeing more people looking at Akron here to pull off an upset with all the injuries that Texas tech has on this one. Yeah so at the moment and this can change throughout the day people are betting all day obviously a lot of money coming in on a day like this but as of right now. No underdog has more money on it not total tickets but more money on it to win outright than Akron no underdog has more money on it to cover as an underdog than Akron so it makes sense because it's an earlier game it's coming up that could change but people like Akron as the underdog I do not I have Texas tech going to the sweet 16 you can get plus money on that that kind of ties into
what we talked about about them matching up potentially with Alabama in the next round and it's a toaster then yeah you kind of like him against off the the one thing that's impress me the most about Texas tech did they lose their national championship pedigree when J.T. top and went down with the torn ACL about a month ago yeah they they did I don't think they can win it all anymore but since February 17th when top and toward his ACL at Arizona State. Texas tech is still 13th in offensive efficiency and 23rd in defense of efficiency in that span they haven't fallen off there top 25 team on both sides of the ball I like the way they're coached they have great guard play they still have a paint presence Akron's only been an underdog once this season they covered they were getting 18 and a half at Purdue they lost by 18 covered by the hook for you if you add Akron in that game but this just isn't a role that they've really been in this season I like him as a team they can be scrappy and hung around a high point wasn't an
underdog all season they beat Wisconsin yesterday so anything can happen yeah but I like the way Texas tech is playing without top and how about number six Tennessee against Miami of Ohio who came in here still I mean they're the Cinderella team and I think people still think that possibilities here I have Tennessee going to fair fair ways in my bracket I don't know am I dumber what am I looking at here Julian I think Tennessee should win this game am I going to lay 11 and a half probably not you know Miami is they play with if you watch that game on Tuesday night or Wednesday night they play the right way they play with a lot of hustle they can keep themselves in games I don't have a feel for the spread in this one that said I would be very surprised if Miami Ohio pulls another upset I think Tennessee wins this game and the reason why is defense SMU had one of their three best players out for that game SMU has been a strong offense all season but they're like barely in the top 100 in terms of defense of efficiency Tennessee we know
that brand Tennessee ranks 15th and defense of efficiency on Ken Palm they're going to lock down on defense Miami Ohio is not going to get what it got against SMU so if they're going to win they're also going to have to rebound and play defense against a big athletic Tennessee team so I'll give him credit I think they could hang around betters are absolutely loving the story here they're loving wow this team is whatever they are 32 and one now and you can get him with 11 and a half points people are betting that I think they can hang around but I'm not going to bet that one one way or another any game or line I'm missing here Julian that you want to talk about as we wrap things up here this morning I think UCLA lay in five and a half is a pretty strong spot they're playing in Philadelphia I know Mick Cronin has gone on ramps all season about anything that hasn't gone there away so having UCLA having to travel out to Philly for the opening round of the tournament I'm sure grinds his gears but UCLA what people will point to is UCLA has been bad away from home and bad away from the West Coast all season
but a lot of those games were true road games and that home environment in college basketball means a lot we just saw UCLA do a pretty far travel last week in the biggest tournament which was in Chicago they went three and oh against the spread in Chicago they smash Rutgers they beat Michigan State as an underdog in a game that one of their best players Tyler Billardo got hurt in the first half didn't come back and then Donovan Dent their other star got hurt the next day against Purdue they were big underdogs without their two best players they still covered and lost by seven against the Purdue team we just saw one the big ten tournament and beat Michigan in the final so I think UCLA isn't going to have an issue kind of traveling out east and playing on a neutral floor and UCF is probably in my opinion the worst at large bid in the field they are outside of the top 40 in offensive efficiency outside of the top 115 defensive efficiency UCLA has been a top 10 offense by those same metrics for like six weeks now I like UCLA against UCF
it's already five nothing Kentucky over Santa Clara is still in bed here the sleepy start hey thanks as always for coming in I really enjoy our chats Julian enjoy day number two of March Madness take care we'll talk soon all right thank you guys for having me on and if you guys are looking for all this March Madness betting content we have a hub up on draft Kings Network dot com where you can find articles on every game for the rest of the tournament perfect thanks lot Julian take care man will talk soon all right thanks for having me howdy howdy ho and welcome to fantasy fanfellas I'm Hayden producer of the fantasy fan girls podcast and your resident lover of all things sander sent and I'm Steven your bookish internet goofball but you can call me the smash daddy and we are currently deep diving Brandon sander since fantasy epic missborn but here's the catch Steven here has not read missborn before that's right hey hey so each week you'll get my unfiltered raw reactions to every single chip and along the way
