We're walking down the hallway yesterday and I go, this team ripped the hearts out of this oil or squad. Two Stanley Cup finals in a row. That I look at the spec article. I need a little credit here. Come on, man. First line in the article, huh? Spec. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but that's called copyright. No, I mean, I might have borrowed a little. I would call that research. Yeah, we owe factual evidence. I think it's not like it's pretty well what everyone was thinking last night exactly what everyone was thinking. You know, there's there are like, it's a long season and there's some games where you just can't find the requisite emotion and the team's flat. We accept that. Every team does

3:05it. It happens all through the league. It's not just your team, folks. But then there's opportunities to have games where that shouldn't be a problem, right? Where you play an opponent or in the situation where you say, okay, you know what? You might lose tonight because they're a better team or you doesn't guarantee a win. But one thing that shouldn't be a problem here is emotion. We should be fired up ready to play here. And for the others to come out, that flat against that team was just disappointing for you, anyone who went there to see a good hockey game from their home side. I mean, the orders were no shows. They no showed it against the team. I wrote it last night. They ripped you said it. They ripped their hearts out. They made their captain cry. They took their act to Italy and ripped on Leon dry saddle. Cut chucks playing for them. They beat you in two cups and you come out like you're playing against the Ottawa Senators on a Monday night in the bubble. You're not told over here is awful, awful, awful, awful. The other thing, the other thing to spec is that like the build up to this, I thought there was, I don't know if there was enough,

4:09maybe it was proportionate. And then the reaction after from the players and coach, it didn't match what everyone's talking about. It doesn't make sense. And now it was, you know, every once in a while there's a game that that looks one way from the press box and the stands and looks another way from the ice. And frankly, I've gone down to a lot of dressing rooms thinking, here's what I'm going to write. And here's what I thought about the game. And after I talk to some people, I go, oh, well, you know, that wasn't so evident from Ryan, but I get it. And it makes you kind of change your tune. And the last night was one of those games. The players were like, oh, wasn't that, you know, we weren't that bad. We were really close. We just couldn't get one over the line. And the coach was like, I thought we played pretty good. And 18,500 people walked out of their gone, that orange and blue team sucked. And they barely competed it like it's the dichotomy between what it looked like from the ice that it looked like from the seats last night. It was pretty stark, Kevin. Yeah. The compete level increased like after it was three nothing.

5:11I'll give them that. I'll give them that. But it's way too little. No, no, no, no, no, no, not in the game. The only way to compete is to go punch someone in the head. I didn't see that all night. So don't tell me you tried harder when it was three nothing. If you're going to lose, go down swinging. They didn't do that either. So yeah, it's lights out at three nothing, man. I was just wondering because you mentioned the coach's comments after the game. He seemed to think that they played a pretty good game and that the game maybe was closer than the scoreboard appeared. And I don't know if this might have been the game where it's, you know, due in order. But have you ever seen, and there's a time in a place, fellas, but have you ever seen knob block just kind of fall on the sword and be like, look, I didn't have the guys ready. This one's on me. Like you see that out of coaches, but I just feel like I don't know how could you sit back in the post game and say that this was a tight game when it was a four nothing suffocating

6:13game. Would you think of that post game, Kev? Were you there? Yeah, no, I was there by watch. I wasn't there. I watched it. It was sort of like the fuddling to me, confusing. I know where Eddie's coming from with a coach doing that. But again, to me, it's about to start. And this was a bigger, a bigger game in the sense that because of what all the things that we've said already, all the things. And again, you mentioned it in your article. We talked about it last night in the press box. And we're talking about the first 20 minutes. Probably let's talk about the first 30 minutes after the three nothing goal. From that point, from the start of the game to 30 minutes in that sense of when you are challenged as a person, as a player, as an individual about how you could be at the very lowest point of your life, which is where the orders were in these last like, I mean, again, you said, expect the captain is crying uncontrollably. He's inconsolable.

7:17Zach Hyman says two years ago, I can only say one thing. I know we're going to get back. I know we're going to get back. And then to see everything that happened here in the last couple of months at the Olympics, to me, that's what I don't understand what was said after. And then what was even said before and going leading up to this game? Yeah, I don't, I don't like some, I hear you, Eddie, sometimes the coach will follow in the sword for his team. I thought last night, he blah blah just basically, you know, he protected his team. He wasn't going to say that we were flat. We weren't any good. He kind of blew the whole thing away. Like maybe it's the wrong time of year to, to, you know, call out your team or to, to say, I wish I expected more from my team. Maybe with this few games left, it's not time to add that to the mix. The, the loss is bad enough. Maybe you go, look, we got a bounce back Saturday. We don't have time to, to get into all this. All the coach called us, team mode stuff. Maybe that's something you don't do in late March.

8:21Bigger fish to fry at this point, maybe. Yeah, I don't know. There it. That's fair. And so respectfully, I said to Eddie, I've said it in a million times this year, they're Switch Flickers. And that was a prime example last night, the start of the game. The Switch was off. And it took him too long to flick it on. Yeah, I, you know, it's funny because to the game before that, we spent, you know, 48 hours talking about how awesome it was to see a four-line team and a team where the, the depth guys got them go and they got big goals for them and rev them up. You know, I've, many times we've talked about how the only way this team has to switch momentum is to score a goal. It's a, it's a skill team. They, they don't have any other ways to turn a game without going out and scoring goals. That's it. And if the goals don't go in, they never turn the game. Yeah. And suddenly they have a fourth line and they have some depth and you think, okay, well, you know, maybe there was time last night for somebody to do something to get some momentum going because the, the skill guys, listen, Florida's, Florida, it's like

9:27styles make the fight, Eddie. Florida style beats Edmond to style. Edmond can't beat Florida as things stand. We watched it. There were two, two in the center cup last year with a, best of three, two out of three played at Rogers Place. And the score was 5152 in the last two games. Florida turned up their game and Edmond couldn't handle it. They can't beat that game. I get it. And it's fine because Florida's done now. You're not going to see him again. But if you're sitting there last night waiting for Edmonton, you know, to find the first goal like everyone talks about, well, I think we know that maybe there's got to be a fresh way to go with this. Maybe a new root to turning momentum. And if does that come with Max Jones drilling somebody? I don't know. We'll never know because, you know, nobody stood up and made anything happen last night. So we'll never know. There's been some big measuring stick moments to see what kind of caliber this team is in the Oilers. They beat Colorado recently in a nice game, a real title game. Dallas

10:29crushed him. Florida crushed him. Tampa Bay coming up, which is arguably the class of the league right now, at least to the east. And this will be a measuring stick game. It will be interesting to see if they fall in line with the narrative of being switch flickers. Like Kevin says, I'm very curious to see how they show up against Tampa because Tampa can bully you too. They have the skill. Kutcher off second in the league and points, but they can bully you physically. Oh, there. They're a really good team of well-rounded and they'll play whatever game it takes to win. That's why they've been champions. You know, they have a couple of options. I would say to you, or they know when it's time to go from option A to option B. So yeah, you know what? I think that that like the Oilers have been playing good hockey lately and we've liked their game and they've been collected points and they put themselves in the race again. And that was just a giant egg last night. I think if you come out and play well and you know, now you put the pressure on yourself, playing well against Tampa is not enough. You got to meet Tampa. You know, it's that time of year.

11:33You can't you can't go two and one home stand and lose the last two. Yeah. So the pressure's off. Let's see how they show up. Like, you know, let's see if they were really satisfied with last night's game or if they just said that to the media because it gets us off their back. Maybe that's the case. I don't know. You know, I said this yesterday, expect when I saw the lines change and then I saw the very beginning and because with Kutcher out there, I think no block wanted put Coles and beside McDavid, just in case Kutcher did something stupid. So I said that and then but once the game kind of went away from that, I was saying like, to me, what's the constant thing that's been for Oilers success here? It's been Conor and Zach Hyman. And even though Conor and put Coles and Ansevoid generated the most offense, they didn't score, obviously, but the most offense last night. I still felt when it's three nothing, when they scored the three nothing goal, you got to go back to Conor and Hyman

12:35and Savoy. Go back to the lines that you had on Tuesday against San Jose. Would that, would did that, did that enter your mind? Is that fair? I mean, you got to do something. Yeah, I can't look in for it because generally any coach whose lines aren't working and not scoring, they just mix up the deck and no blocks, not afraid to do that. We all know that. So sure, I mean, that's that's something you could have done. I don't know. I wasn't that focused on it. I just I couldn't believe the number of guys just standing around getting nothing done out there, frankly. The big play in the game that everyone referenced or the sort of the coach reference, Savoy has that that chance in front of the net, does go in, go out, go out, bending fires it up to Reinhart, you know, the other Reinhart, and he scores the brickway. Yeah, that's quite a nice real Reinhart. Hey, the guy scored it was a beautiful goal. You know, well, I wouldn't say it was beautifully ended up in the net. The way he's the way he played it, it was like a heavy,

13:40that was nice, man. That was nice. That was really nice. That was nice. I know. Good for him. I mean, and I'm not, you know, that move beats a goal every time. Like we've seen it used. It's a good move, even if you pull yourself out of the net afterwards. But hey, listen, man, I don't know if there was like, we're not shifting up personnel. If you got a bunch of disinterested, unemotional guys, I don't care who plays with who, Kevin. Give me some guy, you know, find the three guys that give a crap and send them a so spec what's on deck for the schedule for you here coming up. Well, practice at noon today, you know, it's like unfortunately, you know, not unfortunately. I think as a sports writer, Eddie, you got to move on with the team. Like, okay, they played garbage last night and there was a brutal night and the whole city was disappointed and I wrote it and I haven't written them that hard for a while. Wake up today. It's a new day. Not writing it again, not beating them up again. It's time to move on. You know, that's just the way it is.

14:43The Pacific, there was five games, the Pacific last night and they got one loser point. One loser point. What do you call it? Kevin, you have a name for this division? Pathetic. It's a pathetic division. Yeah, it's a bad division, man. So listen, finish top three and stay in this division. How about Aden Hill? Starts the game for Vegas last night, less than three shots on three goals and put them in a patch. I'm not sure I've seen that one before. Yeah, it's funny. The team that could be that's going to go into the wild like the wild card team that's going to go into the Pacific division bracket spec could have more points than the Pacific division winner. Yeah, yeah, right. I don't think you want to finish verse. You got to face the mighty Utah's. Yeah, try to get two or three exactly. Hey, Edmundon gets Utah twice pretty quick in place in a row twice within a short period of time, both in Utah. So they'll have a good look at him anyhow whether Edmundon's the first place team or whatever they're going to be. At least they didn't lose any standing in the playoff race last night.

It was the most frightening thing for like a five or six year old, and she would play this jethral tall. I thought that this guy was basically the devil. And we saw that, like we saw it last night, especially again, there was so much that came into play, because the game was more than a Thursday night game here. We're floored as out of the playoffs. Game 67 or whatever. And more for the others, like again, just take the two points out of the equation, take it out of the equation. So anyway, I think it was either yesterday or the day before when, I would imagine that season ticket holders received their packages for the playoffs. And you know, it works. You have to go for next year. And I had several people text and call me, yesterday about the increase about how much the tickets are going to be for even the first round of the playoffs. Like if the orders were to get all the way, like the ticket prices for,

24:06you know, as everyone knows from round one to the Stanley Cup final are way different. So, I don't know if anyone of our listeners have let us know, like I mean, if you got your thing sent out to you or whatever, I know one of my buddies is saying like even in the sports net lounge, like for the full package, this full package, it's like 28 grand. Yeah, that's a while. Like, I mean, it is insane when you're looking at 16, 800, 18 hundred realistic. It's unrealistic. Even tickets in certain areas of the building up, like if you were paying 350 or so, ballpark 350 or so for even the first round and you're paying 500 for, so it's gone up, whatever percent increase that is. At a certain point, you're pricing people out and you're only attracting a certain fan. This is a team. And you got to start looking at this because everyone is. I mean, Conor McDavid's looking at this. And Conor McDavid here is the golden

25:10goose. Everyone knows that. Darryl Cates knows that. Everyone in town knows that. I mean, he has, he's the main reason why the fortunes of this franchise have gone from what it's worth before he arrived to where it is now. I would love to see the analytics behind that. Just to see a number, if you could put that on a spreadsheet and just see how it really breaks down from when Conor arrives to the revenue and how much income is really generated off of him and what he brings, it would be just astonishing, especially in the hockey world. So again, I had quite a few texts even last night during the game and guys that were at the game, friends that were at the game, then after the game saying, you know, then I actually did it. I looked like I looked up a few things that were people that said, man, my tickets are awesome.

26:11Chadder about that online on X there. Some people were throwing some numbers out. That's why we put it to you listeners and we love for you to text in. Yeah, I don't know how many, like, if people are going to the playoff games or what they're doing, but I get the fact like what the supply and demand is. And I mean, hey, people were paying premium amount of money, premium, like last year in the Stanley Cup final. Well, I've heard some figures put out there, man, for what the season seats cost for regular season and then playoffs, you're doing it all over again for the playoff run. And that's a lot of coin, man. So again, most of the fans here, yes, there's corporate here in Edmonton, but the corporate compared Edmonton to Calgary, it's not the same. Obviously not the same in Toronto. How many times do you hear in Toronto? Well, you watch those seats in Toronto and there's no one there. And if they are there, they're just, they might be there for a period and then they go underneath randoms and they're not cheering.

27:13They're just sitting around in Jersey because it's corporate and blue collar. And that's what makes Edmonton so great. That's why you love it. That's why I love it. Absolutely. You know, as I said, I mean, I was in Calgary before here working in Calgary. And I enjoyed it. I love, I mean, Calgary was great, but when I got here, it's perks, but it's different. When I got here, this city was more to my style. You know, you know, what I mean? Like it wasn't. I knew it, you mean, you're greedy KK. So that's what I mean. Like in Calgary, it was like, everyone's like, they're not into it. I feel you, man. I'm totally with you. It's, yeah, that at a certain point, you have to think, you're gonna, like I mentioned just a moment ago, you're gonna price people out. Like sure, it's, it's not corporate, but it's gonna have to become corporate when you're expecting $30,000 for playoff run tickets.

That's a totally different conversation here, but here's what not Fred I agree with. I wonder how Flames fans will feel paying double or triple to watch a real building team because the price is for the new facility in Calgary. It's valid point. It's gonna be up there. Hey, Kachucks, the brothers, and you mentioned, so wrapping a stick around one of them's throat, the one that plays on Florida. I like the other one in Ottawa, Brady. I like him. I'm not, he's not as much of a weasel to me, his Matthew Kachucks. You know, like he's, he's unlikable. You just see how he throws down at the beginning of the game. He's a good captain. And I like even, to be honest, I enjoyed seeing Brady on the, well, except for last year, the first year and then even before in 2022, I'll be honest with you because Brady was in Calgary. I was in Calgary covering the series. And he was there with walking around with the Bud Light and his back pocket, the pops in the pockets. You know, that was cool. I thought that was fun. That was great. And then just about that as it's a Bud Light, but well, whatever. This calls for a Bud Light. Hey, you know, and then four years later, now it got to be like, you know, for three years, it got to be the point where it's not, you can't swallow it as much, you know? Yes. Yeah. I hear you. But I like what he does on the ice. I feel he's a good leader. I like, I love when, you know, the captains and, you know, the leaders throw down and are the guys leading the charge physically. We had a couple of texts in Chuck Norse passed away at 86. He did. Chuck Norse was in Hawaii, I believe, had a medical emergency. So that this morning, and he passed away, they just announced the USA announced it, USA today, about 20 minutes ago. Wow. So he was in probably one of the, I see the most famous martial artist slash actor. Well, I mean, John Claude Van Dyme is in there. But I, for me, it's like Chuck Norse. Look, it looks like Chuck gave Josh a little snapper to the snow there. You see the old towel hanging in there again, the old schnauz bleeding like a pig, a stuck pig over there. There's legacy there. The Chuck Norse aura, right? So much legacy. I didn't realize he was 86. Oh, yeah, he looked like

So for sure, you know, on this and again, I mean, we're beating a dead horse to death again here in the sense that you know, we talked about going into this game and we'll talk about the last two playoffs here.

43:00As we talked about how that the Panthers of, you know, they rub the Euler's faces in it, you know, in the spring, you don't want the pink pony, the elbow room, the whole bit, everything. And then to see that emotion or lack thereof in the urgency, desperation, and again, you're fighting for your playoff life too. There's so many things here that we're not saying it had to be line brawls or sticks to the throat and ripping heads off. But there needed to be a sense that play this like it's your last game of the year because that's how Florida was playing it. Florida played it like this could be this could be our last meaningful game of the year. The Euler's didn't match it. Well, I said, hi, I'm nothing else to add to that KK. And Kevin, you and I talked about it yesterday, right? Going into it and we are kind of using your little spiel from a month ago, right, post-Olympics about how the Euler's should be looking forward to this and the chance to, you know, get one back off, Matthew could chuck in the Panthers,

44:04even if it is just a regular season game in the middle of March. And but yesterday, we'd kind of regressed to the point of saying, you don't got to go out there. And as you just said, have a line braw or something. And I even went as far as like, it's better for the Euler's if they don't get involved with all these extra curriculars and the post whistle stuff. But that doesn't mean that you can't go out there and play a physical brand of hockey and try and, you know, squash this little bit of faith or belief that this Panthers team still has because as we've said many times this morning and yesterday, like, this is kind of the probably the last game on their schedule that they're looking at and saying, we want these two points in Emmington really badly. We want this win. And if you, you can come in there, you're a better hockey team right now. Take that away from them. Sure. That could speak volumes, but they just had nothing. And who knows, like, maybe Saturday, like, right now, I mean, Tampa's given up some goals, like Buffalo put a lot on him and, you know, maybe maybe tomorrow nights, like a six five or a one two or three point game and that changes everything. So I'll go lead on this one. Positive thinking. Yes. And it's funny because we look at a face value and say at a, you know, 15 points in third or 12 games, it seems like a lot. You'd have to really go on a tear. But then you remember, he already has 115 points in just seven to get in 60 games, right? So I just look at it without sorry to cut you off,

47:16but without Leon. So the power play, I don't think that it's going to be as efficient as it had been all season. I think the mentality has to change already. And they gave up a lot of shots last night, where they dicked around with it, not just on the power passing up too many shooting opportunities. So their mentality's got to be within the face off. Back, put it on fire. Put it on. Let's just go through there. I mean, half the time they lose the draw anyway. And then they don't have that guy in the other right flank. Another one against the Habs in the Sands here to round out this month after they're done this road trip west. So there's some some pivotal games. A lot of implications in this much tighter Eastern conference than what we're probably seeing out west here. You know, like tomorrow night, if they beat the others, you're right. You know, that's another like that's why tomorrow's like that is a massive game. You know, you may hate the fella. You may despise the fella little Gary Betman, but he has set it up in a way where it's very exciting coming down the home stretch with the points in the way it works out. It works out in an exciting fashion, man. Dispised a little fella. Poor little guy. Poor little guy. Poor little Gary Betman. To be honest, kept my main motivation here. I am as much on board with his Buffalo store this year as anybody. I still think Tampa Bay is the best team in the Eastern conference. And I think

We had six lower seeds winning yesterday. Duke got themselves a scare from Sienna as well. Nearly a number one seed going down for the third time in round number one. But if we're looking at today's second half of the opening round predicting the biggest upset. I'm going way off the board. I'm taking a Hofstra 11.5 point underdogs to win a Bama to win. I'm taking them to win. You got them in your draft. I do. You have in your bracket. This was my biggest upset in the first round of the bracket. You know, every time I say you wrote to lunch, Duke, something like this happens in Hofstra is going to win. I'm going to be out on this one though just because I don't want to see your bracket succeed. Yeah, absolutely. So what do you got then? You got you got a different one. I mean, that's a big hit there with when you're thinking about it, when you got a I guess two two different for the sake of the question.

51:24Lower seeds are actually favored in the game. Iowa is two and a half point favorites over Clemson. And I believe Utah State is a one and a half point favorite over Villanova. So you can't take a nine eight nine Kenya. Well, both of those are the two and then the underdogs actually the favorite. The other dogs the favorite. Well, that's pretty neat. I can't take a nine. But again, yeah, nothing's going to match. What do you think about the red hot remaining red hot Miami over Ohio up against the volunteers? I know you got Tennessee going deep. Yeah, I do. Can I say Santa Clara? Duke. You sure could. So I would say Santa Clara. Just three and a half points in a seven, ten matchup against Kentucky. The Wildcats. I think I chose UCF over UCLA. So worth keeping tabs on even if that game maybe gets a little bit out of hand. But looking forward to another full slate here, getting underway in about an hour and 20 minutes time from across the United States. Finally, this day March 20th. It's the first day of spring here in this the year of our Lord and Savior 2026. Despite the optimism, hope springs eternal, all that jazz, spring is the worst of the four seasons.
