0:00All right, welcome back to the big program, 901 in Edmonton in time to talk a little football NFL style with Cordell Woodland from 105.7, the fan in Baltimore. Good morning, Cordell. You're with Kevin Carrius once again. Thanks for jumping on sports 1440 once again, really appreciate it. Yeah, thanks for having me. Hey, Cordell, you know, you've been on several times before talking Ravens football. But the last four or five days here in your wildest dreams, could you ever, your, your, your nightmare is even could you ever conjure up what's going on here in the last four or five days with the Ravens? It's unbelievable, unbelievable. It is, um, you know, it's been a roller coaster ride, you know, because I just start the all season Friday. The Ravens make that big trade to get Max Crosby. And, you know, at least here locally in Baltimore, Max Crosby has been at the top of the fan wish list for I would say the last two years, they've been essentially begging for the Ravens to go not only to get Max Crosby,

1:07but really any premier pass rusher that the Ravens have lacked in the past or some department for a couple of years now. And so you go to Friday where they make this unusual trade for them where they trade now one, but two first round pick for Max Crosby. This is a Ravens franchise that had never traded a first round pick to a veteran player before that trade. So this was, this was, you know, very unorthodox for them, very big tendency breaking move. And you go through the weekend and everybody's on this high everybody celebrating it. Everybody's crowning the Ravens. They're super bowed off to through the rules and then you get to Tuesday night and all of a sudden the rug is pulled from under everybody and everybody's looking around like what in the world just happened. And then reality starts to set in that the Ravens had pretty much lost all of their free, they're all of their own free agents to either the Giants where John Harball went or to his brother in LA with the charges for the most part.

2:15And you know, Tyler Lindobom, the Raiders saved him $27 million a year. So, you know, when you're seeing all these guys fly off the board, you're like, all right, it's all right. They at least they got Max, you know, at least they got Max. And then the Max trade fallstone is like, okay, what are the Ravens going to do this offseason? They don't have Max Crosby. Yeah, they get their first round picks back, but they don't have it. They just lost all of their debt. Now, obviously they signed trade Hendrickson and that's a pretty good constellation prize, but no doubt has been a rollercoaster of emotions here in Baltimore. Was there any chance, Cordell? And there was some talk about it that, you know, before this Crosby thing was rescinded and the Hendrickson signing. Was there any chance that both of them that they thought they would have both of them for next year? Well, that's something Eric DeCosta hinted at yesterday at his press office, and I actually have Eric DeCosta on my show tonight, so we'll be able to dive a little bit more into it with them.

3:16But yeah, I mean, he hinted at the fact that they were at least going to try to get both of those guys. And he admitted that, you know, it wasn't a sure thing. There was no guarantee that it was going to happen in five various reports. Tray Hendrickson was on his way to the coach before he turned around and signed to the Raven. So it's a lot of conflicting things. You do wonder how the Ravens would have been able to make that work financially. But I do think that they were going to at least try. And I think it shows their desperation and the past Russia position to wear, even if they got Max Crosby, they still felt like they needed more at that position, which leads me to believe they still feel that way. Even with Tray Hendrickson there, I would not be surprised to see the Ravens still go out and try to add to their past Russia room. Maybe it's not a Max Crosby type of guy or anybody that's better than Tray Hendrickson. But I still think that they are willing to add to that group.

4:16Yeah, Cornel Woodland from 105.7 the fan with us covering the Baltimore Ravens. As you mentioned, losing Tyler Lindnerbaum in free agency to the Raiders is going to be a tough one to swallow. Is it just pretty well given that that's where the replacing is through the draft here, Cornel? Well, most likely, and the cost of yesterday mentioned how they have had success drafting centers over time. And Tyler Lindnerbaum obviously being the latest of those guys. Center is such a fluid position. And it sucks financially for centers because the Ravens weren't even able to put the fifth year option on Tyler Lindnerbaum because it would have been, I believe, about $23 million for that year, which completely blows away what was the market setting deal that Creed Humphrey had where he was making $18 million a year at a center. So the reason is that high is because they group all of the office of Lyman as one when it comes

5:21to those fifth year options instead of it just being center guard tackles. So, you know, tackles are is a premier position, especially left tackle. So that number, their number kind of inflates that tag number. So it sucks for them that they weren't able to get that fifth year out of Tyler Lindnerbaum who they definitely wanted to keep. They did make a competitive offer in their mind. Eric DeCosta came out and said they offered him a market setting deal, but they were never going to pay him $27 million a year. They just weren't. And it sucks because office of Lyman, in my opinion, is their biggest issue coming out of last season. So now you're in a spot to where you have the Replacer Pro Bowl Center. They did bring John Simpson in from the jets. He was with the Ravens a couple of years ago at guard. He seems like a solid stopgap. So, I'm not necessarily over the moon about that time. But I am concerned that the interior of

6:23their office of Lyman is still a huge need for them. Hey, Cordell, with Lamar Jackson restructuring his contract. So what does that allow them to do here or what else does it allow them to do here moving forward? Well, it did free up almost 40 million in cap space for them, which is good. I think, you know, what it does do is it kind of lowers the likelihood that they reach an extension with Lamar this offseason. He's going to get a huge signing bonus. He's going to get a he got a nice payday, I believe, whatever day that they could, the day they announced that they restructured, I don't believe is the exact day that they actually did it. So whenever they they did it, he got a really good payday that day. So it did free up some cap for them in the immediate future. And look, I think the Ravens were going to try to be aggressive this offseason, even without extending Lamar or without this restructure. The owner Steve Beshadi had already drawn

7:26the line in the sand saying that if they hadn't reached the extension by the time that the newly year started, that they were going to do this. So I think everybody kind of knew it was coming. I don't I don't foresee Lamar Jackson not being a rave, you know, when it's all said and done. I think they get this extension done in the future. But again, this free up 40 million in cap space. I think the Ravens have plenty, they have other routes that they can take when you talk about restructuring contracts on their team. So it wouldn't surprise me if the Ravens are able to clear up enough cap space to make a couple more big swings this offseason. I don't foresee them spending a ton of money and free agency. I would still be on the lookout for them to potentially make a splash trade again. Cordell Woodland from 105.7, the fan, our guest on the Kevin Kerri show here in sports 1440. How do you foresee the transition at coach at head coach? How it's going to be here, Cordell with Jesse Menter from the chargers coming over and replacing Harbaugh, who's there a long,

8:26long time. What do you think that is going to be like moving forward here? Yeah, I think it'll be a change for sure. You know, John's been there for 18 years. So his fingerprint has definitely been left on the organization and their culture and their history. I think Jesse Menter, the good thing about him is that he's been involved more before. He's been a part of that coaching staff. He understands the standard. He understands what they're looking for, what their expectation is. And he's going to hold those guys to that. I do think it is a fresh voice, which was needed. He brings a fountain of youth. So to speak, he and his entire coaching staff are the most part of the lot of youth on that coaching staff. But with that lot of youth, brings a lot of inexperience. So there's a lot of guys and new roles, including Jesse Menter, who had coach for the first time. But I do think right now it's fresh. It's new. It's exciting. Jesse knows football. And the good thing about him is he brings his strength is what

9:30the Ravens' weakness has been here the last couple of years, which has been on the defense outside of the ball. So that's the one thing that you like is that him taking this job immediately elevates the defense by default schematically because I believe Jesse Menter will do better leading this defense than Zach Orr did the last couple of years. It could look like a day when Mike McDonald was involved more as their defensive coordinator. And we just saw what he did with the Seattle Seahawks as they just won the Super Bowl. So a lot of people are hoping that Jesse Menter has that kind of trajectory. I'm wary of that. I think it's unfair to put that expectation on him. You just never know how this goes because the average case and when it comes to the head coach in the NFL is it usually doesn't work. Teams are usually looking for a new head coach every three to five years. So the Ravens have been blessed to not be a part of that. Ty, I'm curious to see how this goes, but right now I am optimistic. Outside of their offensive line, you know, when you talk about the positional players, it's for the most part looks relatively the same. And maybe I'm going to

10:35go towards wide receiver here. Do they have enough at wide out here moving forward to be competitive in what's going to be another good competitive division here in the North? No, I don't think they do. And beyond why receiver, I think just pass catcher in general, they're lacking right now. They just lost as they are likely to the Giants. They lost their third string tight and Charlie Kohler to the Chargers and they extended Mark Andrews during the season. But unfortunately, I think Mark Andrews is trending in the wrong direction. His explosiveness has gone down. His production has gone down. He's not the safety net that he once was for Lamar Jackson. He doesn't separate the way that he was was. He's not as good after the catch anymore. So I am concerned, you know, I love these flowers. I think everybody loves these, but it's only so much they can do. I've Richard Bateman is a huge question, Mark. You just don't know what you're going to get out of him. He's not consistent. He does have injury concerns. And you just wonder how committed he really

11:42is. I don't even know if it's a guarantee that Richard Bateman is on this roster come next year. He could be a guy that's a part of a tree made for the Ravens this all season. So I think even big could use a couple of guys. The Ravens are not strangers to drafting wide receivers in the drafts. I fully expect them to draft a wide receiver or two. And it wouldn't shock me if a wide receivers drafted as early as the first round for the Ravens this year. They typically go best player available while I believe offensive line is their biggest need. If they don't like any of the positions of need on the offensive line at 14, they're not going to take it. You don't draft for need in the first round. That's it. At least that's my philosophy and a lot of NFL teams philosophy. You don't draft for need in the first round. You pick best player available. That could end up being a wide receiver for them or corner or pass Russia. And obviously maybe an offensive lineman as well. Do you see the Ravens at all moving away from 14 moving up or down at all in the

12:45draft here, Cordell? Well, I did ask, you know, Ag the cost of yesterday, you know, if that was the possibility for them, they were willing to trade two first round picks to get back to Crosby. So, you know, are they still willing to park with those picks? And he said if a player pops up that they feel is worth that type of trade draft capital, they'd be willing to make that type of deal. So I think that, you know, I do think they're hunting big fish. They showed us that with the max deal and even with that falling through, what do they do? They immediately go get trade hedgehogs. So I do think that they're looking to make these impacted dishes to their positions of need this offseason. I do think we're going to see the Ravens be a little more aggressive to get these types of deals done that maybe we've seen them be in the past. So yeah, I'm kind of on edge for anything on it for anything to be honest with you. I think everything's on the table. They're just kind of weighing their options right now. I'm probably still trying to piece together whatever their new plan is now that the max cross we think they'll do.

13:49Yeah, I'm just kind of looking at some of the players, you know, that would be available to them around 14 and the options are there to move up or down and, you know, they could go after that wide receiver at Arizona State Jordan Tyson. I don't know if that's a 50 thing. Is that a guy that you think would be on their radar? Well, he's been a guy that's been mentioned quite a bit. You've had a couple of seats. I think lemon as well has been another guy that's been brought up. So, you know, these big body receivers that have this great catch radius, these are guys that people have been wanting the Ravens to go get for a while. They wanted them to go get these big body guys that can kind of be Lamar safety net in these jump ball receivers. They had the Andre Hopkins this past year and they didn't utilize him enough. I am paying it probably in DeHop's opinion as well. But yeah, I think all of those guys are going to be on the board could be an option for them. Jordan Tyson definitely could fit. I think it's important that they go and get somebody that can help impact their team now. If it's a receiver, somebody that you could

14:53slide in as a starter at Lamar can build that trust with that can be an asset to your offense, really, from day one similar to how they was. It's not always easy to do though. You know, you drive some of these guys and you think they're fit and some of these guys, you know, it is a little bit of an adjustment stepping up to the NFL and dealing with that physicality seeing all these different defenses and and and coverages that they'll go again. So, um, it will see what they see on tape and what they find out in the back channels. But Jordan Tyson wouldn't shock me if he is a candidate for 14. Right. You're putting in that little fault because just in case something happens. So if the Toronto Maple Leafs keep tanking the way they are and let's just say all of the sudden, they continue to go down and down and down and get more bingo balls into the bingo ball into the lottery. Well, all of a sudden maybe they are one, two, three, four, five. Maybe they are fourth overall. Well, in that case, then the Leafs are going to go, I think we better retain the pick. We'll keep the pick and then it'll push to next year. It's similar to what happened with the Oilers here. Darryl, when they said the pick is protected, say in the Jake Walmond deal, but then they make another trade this year and send away another first rounder to Chicago. So not all of the sudden they don't have that luxury

18:02for a fallback. So now it goes basically to this year and that's what happened where the pick for 2026 will go to San Jose. Colorado might have the quicker forwards with the likes of Ranton and facts out and guys like that, but Dallas can still bring it in. You know, just talking to Sam Nestler from DLS Sports right off the hop this morning. The ability that Dallas has to roll the lines right now, that is going to be that could be the Oilers toughest task to equal tonight. But what we have seen in the last couple of games for sure, what we have seen and it's fair to say is that the Oilers have been able to do that against an opposition and they've been able to play more players in different kind of minutes than they have been able and a lot of that is the result of the acquisition of Jason Dickinson. So I think in the sense where the Oilers match up and again,

23:14you've got so many key guys out of the lineup for Dallas. I think it's there. We have to see what happens with Colton Doc yet. Tonight we have to see what happens with Ty Emerson and we also had a text earlier just regarding Conor Ringram. Haven't seen anything in the sense from the Oilers about the bringing up of a gold tender from Bakersfield. Again, Bakersfield is on a Texas road trip, so they would be, well, they would have, they'd be probably depending on travel, et cetera. Now, is that the Jets sucking or was that the ducks playing a little bit better brand of defensive hockey than we've seen them do for, you know, ducks 60 games this year where they are as run and gun and give up as many odd man rushes as anybody in the league. Yeah, I'd be willing to weigh or bet more on the fact that it was the Jets playing poorly as they have so much this season. So listen, I'll be on the ducks tonight because when you can get a team that's a first place team at plus money against a last place to last place opponent, yeah, I'm all over that. You got to pick your spots, of course, if you are sprinkling, Kevin, but I like this a lot still. So Duke 14 games, what is your parlay tonight? Is it eight? Chicago is a big one because Chicago LA Madison Avenue or Michigan Avenue. Yeah, New York LA. Yeah, but Chicago is great. Like Chicago, like honestly, Chicago is probably my favorite, favorite city. When it comes to sports, great atmosphere, the building, or it used to be, I don't know how it's now shopping, restaurants, unbelievable. It's kind of a smaller version of New York. You know, like you can walk around New York is like, you got to take caps everywhere and like, don't get me wrong, Chicago is huge, but like that, where we stayed, usually it was, it was perfect for walking, restaurants, shopping. It was, I get to tell you, and you were, nightlife something. Yes, you won't remember this story, but it was in, I don't know, we don't mind somewhere in there. And I was, I was on the plane with you guys and it was a game

31:35in Chicago on December 23rd. And there was day off before the game and everything. So all you guys, everyone went shopping, you know, in Chicago. Classic, last minute. Yeah. And get home really late, like two in the morning on basically Christmas Eve. So all you guys, you did your Christmas shopping. So how it worked. And I hope I'm not going to get anybody into trouble here. It's 18 years ago. But this is how it worked. Everyone down, like all the players would leave first off the plane, obviously. For me, probably no penalty because that play, if you look at it, Mechinan is driving the net. He's going back door. There's a pass there. So he can score goals. So rightfully so he charges the net. The last second, when he misses the net, you can't help. When you stop the clip. Unless you're blind or you're an idiot, you see his skates are turning around the crease. As soon as he's

33:43turning those skates, Darnell Nurse bumps into him. And I'm not saying it's Darnell Nurse fall. Like he's trying to prevent the goal. So like, rightfully so he has to do whatever he can to prevent the goal. Unfortunately, the force is too great that he alters Mechinan's trajectory and he bumps him into Ingram. It's like, I don't know, like for me, it couldn't be more clear. And like, hearing Tukarask on the panel, he said the same thing. It's unfortunate. It's super unfortunate. I don't wish Ingram any harm. But it is what it is. Maybe two minutes. Maybe two minutes. I think it's too laddy. I think probably two minutes in these days, in 80s, probably nothing and a huge scrum and a huge fight. There'd be a brawl in there. That would be a brawl, but probably they wouldn't have the review and like, you know, but it would be a brawl. But honestly, it was the contact between

But honestly, like, every single X NHL player or anybody on the panel, social media, they said the same thing. Maybe two minutes, two minutes, maybe. I don't think it's not a penalty. And I mean, Shlummer and I argued about that yesterday. To me, I think it has to be. Yeah, it's probably something here. Here's the other thing too, Larry. I would probably put Evan Bouchard ahead of Quinn Hughes because he's, I don't know. Like, I think Quinn Hughes gets a little bit more help. Like, uh, if you think about the Minnesota wild and how it's structured their team, I think he can get more help. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Evan Bouchard is a better player than Kale McCarr or better player than Quinn Hughes. He is having better season. Yeah. Then he was way better than McCarr the other night. He was. He was. So I'm going to give him credit. But comparing McCarr or he used to him, I don't think it's, I need a little bigger sample. If he's going to keep going next five years, then we can have the conversation because those two guys have been doing it for a long time. And you can not just turn it on and turn it off and be bad defensively and good defensively. You know, it doesn't work like that. You need consistency.

40:59That's what makes the great players great. But for me, he, I would put him behind Verensky in North trophy this year. So I have no problem with that. I have a Verensky number one right now. And I had before about two weeks ago, I had Bouchard at four. Now I have him at three. Yeah. And I have used it too. Okay. So I have it similar, but a lot of credit to Evan Bouchard. The way he was able to turn it around after rough start, the rough start unfortunately caused him the spot on Canadian team. And people can be mad about it and cry again. Like I might like have to delete some people of my Twitter because some of the oilers fans, not all of you guys. Most of you are great. Some of them are just morons. Okay. Morons. That is not any other way. But I'm going to give Evan Bouchard a lot of credit. Like the guy, he is the captain of the defense. In the previous year, we talk about ag home. I think Bouchard was able to take that away from

42:03ag home and he's leading the defense the right way offensively. We are used to that. But even defensively, he doesn't do major screw ups. He's on the ice in the last half. Exactly. He kills penalties. I was against it, but he can read the play. Yeah. Like I hope he can do this workload moving into the playoffs and all that stuff. But a lot of credit to Evan Bouchard. I'm going to admit when I was wrong. And I wasn't wrong. Like we just, we just, we weren't wrong. Like we just called, we just called it as it was. Yeah. He wasn't good enough. But now, like, honestly, the guy turned around. He is, he's a very bright spot on the, on the oilers and the oil owners like that. First six games, Larry, he had zero points, zero. Last 53 games, he's got 17 goals, 51 assists. He's plus 26. And that's since November the first. I want to go back to the first six

43:04games because I don't know what his plus minus was. He was minus three against the islanders. He was minus one against New Jersey, minus two against Detroit. So he comes out of the gates in the first seven games as being a minus six player, I believe. Yeah. So you think about how that's rebounded. And again, I'm comparing him just game to game. And I like what you said, we're not comparing the overall body of work here. We're comparing this season. And especially the last 50, 60 games, 100% man. Like I'm not going to say he's better than Makar or he is. He's not. He's not. But can he sustain this in next few years? Then we can have that conversation. Here's the thing, Larry. What's the one thing that Euler fans have said about him in the last two years? Well, he ramps it up in the playoffs. But where's he in the regular season? Well, okay. Now what? So if he plays like he is right now in the playoffs, what do you got? You got a, you got a top three, four defenseman in the NHL 100%. Well, what I'm seeing too, like,

44:05let's be honest, he's not the greatest skater. Like what separates Makar and Quinn Hughes is their skating ability. They escape with the fuck so much. This guy does it with his hat. Look at the two. He is so smart. Like I'm going to give him like he, he might be the smartest defenseman because he's not going to escape anybody with his skating. Like he's not the bad skater. He is a decent good skater, I'd say, but he doesn't have the same ability. It's the same same edgework like Makar or Hughes. They get out of the trouble just based on their skating. He does it with his hockey IQ. Look at the, the orders had the power play in both Leon and Connor Seward Bush on that power play and he had to bust his ass back like twice to, you know, and you could see he was like full torque and he was having a tough time. I can't remember who the forward was for might have been Parker Kelly, but the other thing that I remember from the game and again, when we're comparing the two in Makar, and you look at how Makar played, think about,
