Tom, Brian, and Amos kick off their Get Smart experiment with the 1965 pilot “Mr. Big” and are delighted to discover that nearly everything they associate with the series—from the shoe phone and Cone of Silence to “Would you believe…”—was there from the beginning. Mel Brooks’ absurd Cold War spy parody proves smarter and funnier than expected, though the big question now is whether those wonderfully ridiculous recurring gags will still be funny after four episodes.
