It's Andrew DeChicco, equals beat reporter for inside the burrs.com. And it's Wednesday, which means you get your first injured reporter of the week. Not practicing for the Eagles Wednesday defensive tackle, Jalen Carter wrist. Defensive back, Cooper Dijaine, calf abdomen. Limited for the Eagles outside linebacker Jonathan Grenard with the pectoral.

Walking into practice when the gates open, one of the first things I spotted, then the Eagles were on the far field, was Cooper Dijaine standing off to the side. And if you think back to Sunday's game against the commanders, I don't, it was early in that game early enough, but there was a play that he sort of grabbed that his stomach abdomen area. And then we saw him wearing a sleeve on his leg. So you were able to draw your own conclusions that it was multiple things that were sort of nagging him a little bit. But he did speak after practice in the locker room. He said, I'll be good. I'll be all right. He expects to play Sunday. I'll add some quotes for you to maybe add a little bit more context here. And talking about the mental reps, he said you got to do as much as you can on the side watching the reps, watching film as well. When asked if it's annoying that to have like an injury this early in the season and having to answer questions like that, he said, yeah, but I'm good.

So I'll be all right. When asked do you have a sense of how much it'll nag you how long he said no idea. I really don't, but I'll be good. I'll be all right. He gave a good answer here when asked about what he believes is the biggest step the defense needs to take to get to the next level. He said, I think just continuing continuing to communicate and gel together. I feel like you saw you've seen in the past couple of years. I'm not saying that this year is the same, but taking the reps early in the season and practice together and getting on the same page and then translating that on to the field when the bullets are flying, being able to be on the same page and playoff one another well. So that gives you a little bit of reasoning behind maybe why you saw Cooper struggle on Sunday against the commanders and for being honest, you can count on one hand. The amount of games that Cooper D'Agin has struggled. I can think back to the Carolina game as a rookie Adam Thielin the game on Sunday against the commanders and.

I'm struggling to think of the other one, but the point is is that Cooper D'Agin has been a very steady and consistent player. He's coming off an all pro season. He's a trusted member of Vick Vangio's defense. He wears a ton of hats and he's a valuable piece and everyone's entitled to have a bad game and there's reasons why perhaps this is the reason why you saw him maybe not have the dominant performance that you've grown accustomed to seeing. But I've seen some on social media suggest that maybe it and I've been asked this as well. If it has to do with him adding to adding weight and muscle to his frame in the off season. Maybe that's impeding his mobility. I don't know. I can't say that there's not there's one game of data. He had a good training camp. I mean, he'd bulked up in turn in a lot in large part because he's going to be playing safety when the Eagles are in base. So to play safety, naturally you want to have a bigger frame to be able to handle those run fits and be physical and be able to play downhill.

And also when you're playing nickel, you have to get involved when it comes to run support and do some different things like that. You're a hybrid player and you have to handle a lot of responsibility. So I don't know that that had anything to do with it. After one game, I can't make that determination will learn more obviously as the season goes. But the good news here is that Coupard is he says he expects to play Sunday against the Titans. Jalen Carter with the wrist injury that popped up Wednesday. That's not a good thing, but that's obviously something that will monitor throughout the week. Not a whole lot that I can really expand on with that. Hopefully we'll get a chance to hear from Jalen Carter this week. But Wednesday, he was not around. And when you're on the injury report, you're doing with something that's not really a surprise. Also, the Eagles made some roster moves on Tuesday afternoon that were made official. Left guard, landed Dickerson was placed on injured reserve.

And the Eagles signed wide receiver slash partner, Turner, Britain, Cubby to the 53 man roster and signed to the practice squad Josiah DeGuara, who was a third round pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2020. More of an H back blocking type of player 6 to just under 240, a movable piece. I liked him a lot coming out of Cincinnati. And I if I remember correctly and I was doing work on this pre draft, I believe the Eagles did have interest in him, but lots changed since then, different coaching staff and things like that. But I just something that I found interesting. But Britain Cubby's back on the 53. So he had two more elevations and then the Eagles would have had to make a decision. But if you know that he's going to be your season long pumped returner, why not get ahead of things? They certainly took advantage of that. They still have an open spot on the 53. Remember Eli Stowers was placed on injured reserve and the Eagles haven't filled that spot yet. So I'm really curious to see what direction they go, what their elevations might be for Sunday's game as well.

They now have seven wide receivers on the roster. Britain Cubby feels pretty comfortable there because he has a defined built in role on game day. You have to wonder how long the lies are more might be on the roster. How long will they be willing to carry seven wide receivers? Sometimes things have in way of working themselves out other times not so much and you have to get creative, but they do have an extra roster spot to work with. I see how that all shakes got my rookie diary in the books with Micah Morris for the second consecutive week. That's going to be a season long series on inside the birds.com and right here on to check O'Daili a really good conversation with Micah. We talked about football a little bit, his early impressions of experiencing the crowd at Lincoln Financial Field, his pregame routine, the meeting rooms and the offensive in the offensive Lyme room. Where does he sit? Is he an active note taker and things of that nature. We also got into other things and I talked about if you had to credit to one or two individuals that helped you get to where you are today, who would they be? He gave a really good answer about that. I'm not going to reveal that. I want you to read it. I want you to listen to it of course.

We talked about movies, we talked about some of his off-field interest as well, other off-field interest and just a really good conversation. I'm really enjoying chatting with Micah and getting to know him a little bit, has a great personality, is really just sort of embracing his role on the Eagles and he's taken a step back because he's not playing it. He was an active for week one, but he's doing a lot of work behind the scenes. He goes pride themselves on player development and he's really taken to that and we talk about that as well, but make sure you're keeping an eye out for that later in the week. Nick Sireani spoke on Wednesday as he always does. I thought he had some interesting things to say, especially as it pertains to the backup quarterback spot and he added some clarity to it and he went asked about Andy Dalton, hold on, I'm looking for that quote for you guys. He said, we felt like he was the best person for the job and that won the job.

That has no indication of how we feel about Tanner, that's who won the job throughout camp, but roles and spots on the Dept Charter never set in stone. They're still competing, they're still working and we'll be evaluating everything all the time, but at the end of the day, that's why. Hey, I'm somebody who likes to work out, I get to the gym at least three times a week, I try to focus on certain muscle groups, my arms, my legs, and it used to be really frustrating for me to find genes that fit someone like myself who likes to work out. Sometimes those genes can be awkward and tighten, you're sitting in a chair and you're constantly pulling it, your genes trying to get them to fit you. Sometimes it feels like you have to have by genes that make you choose between your waist or your thighs. Thankfully, I found the perfect gene, it's different from all other gene companies, especially for guys with athletic builds. They actually let me move like a normal human being, I can bend down in time, I choose, I can squat to pick up something without feeling restricted.

I can actually do a full squat, bending down to pick something up without feeling like I'm about to blow a scene. You know, the old standard gene sizing, it wasn't designed to fit guys who squat or dead live, play sports, or just do anything that actually builds your legs, but the perfect gene is designed for just that for guys like me. Perfect gene has six fits, it includes the athletic fit, the slim, the thick, and the thick fix, specifically built around the reality that legs and waist don't always scale together. So I mentioned this on this podcast and I've written about it as well. I thought that Andy Dalton made the most sense as the number two quarterback all things being equal no one really separated in training camp. But the Eagles did show difference to Andy Dalton in training camp and he started the first two preseason games. He's a veteran. This is a 16th NFL season. He's been in different schemes. He has a good feel for the game and how defensive coordinators are playing and of course he has experience in a similar system like the Eagles are doing right now.

So for me, I think there's a lot of value there of having someone like Andy Dalton as your number two quarterback despite how he played in the summer. I don't base it off of that. I base it off of the body of work. What he's done. Maybe even the last couple of years and when you look at a number two quarterback, you want someone who can be almost an extension of the coaching staff. Ideally, ideally, but in this case, he's someone that I think can be a really good sounding board for Jalen Hertz can can be there in the moment and let him know what he saw on the field and I think having a veteran presence like that should help the offense, but should hope should help Jalen Hertz. Most of all. So there you have that. Nick Serriani also spoke about landed Dickerson, of course. That was the most important topic of the day. And when asked, you know, when did you realize that landing was seriously heard and wouldn't be himself and was there any talk about maybe going with someone else at left guard. Nick Serriani said, like I said, you guys everybody in that first game had some good plays and had some bad plays and he was doing some really good things as well.

Like I mentioned to you guys after he got into the locker room, he was uncomfortable and that's where you do MRIs and that's where you saw the bone bruise or where we saw the bone bruise and that's kind of how it went. You're comfortable with him because of how many times he's played through him being uncomfortable because he's so tough. That's how that went about. We also heard from Drew Kendall, Drew Kendall. I wonder how I have to ask him this when the buzz dies down a little bit maybe later this week, maybe next week, but I can't imagine that he's had to feel, you know, look and see a sea of reporters quite like he saw today, even dating back to his time at Boston College, but he was asked right off the bat. It seems like you might have an opportunity to start if that's the case. What would that mean to you? He said, I'm just excited for any opportunity ahead. We have a lot of good guys in our room. Everyone's been cross training at different positions throughout the summer. So whatever the five is, I'm just excited and try to contribute to this team and get our best five out there.

He didn't want to get into a position. He took reps at today. He said I was doing a little bit of everything. Of course, we're trying to keep everything in house, so not trying to give out too much. When he's talked about how much more prepared he feels for this opportunity this year relative to maybe last season as a rookie, he said, I'm just excited for whatever's ahead, you know, but definitely a good opportunity. We're wishing for landing to get a very speedy recovery. We'll miss him. He's a warrior really battling through, so we'll miss him, but just excited. So they're keeping it close to the vest there and you might expect that that would be the case. They have as I outlined multiple ways they can go with this. You have Drew Kendall. I think Drew Kendall, I feel pretty comfortable saying that he's going to be involved in some capacity now, whether that's center or whether that's left guard is to be determined. But he does give you that versatility. He was the Eagles top interior backup and training camp for what it's worth. Things change, of course, but the Eagles are high on Drew Kendall and he checked off all the boxes, at least in my estimation, and training camp.

And it seems like they're really bullish on him in terms of where he is right now at this stage of his development. And he was always viewed. I've said this throughout training camp that he was the top interior backup, the Brett Toath for the 2026 Eagles. By that definition, I'm expecting him to get his number called and we'll find out where exactly that is, but I feel pretty comfortable with him out there. Is he a little undersized to play guard if that were the case? Yes, I would say so. 305. That's on the lighter side for a guard. But he's such a cerebral cerebral player in general, but especially at center where I believe he started 34 games at Boston College. So we don't want to get too far ahead. It's just Wednesday. We have a lot more to learn, but Jay one hurts also to spoke. And he's he spoke about the offensive line. He gave a good answer here, there about. About the center position.

But I'm looking for as we speak. There it is. Okay. How much work have you gotten with Drew at center if that ends up being the case? And how big of a deal is that if switching centers. Switching centers from a quarterback standpoint, he said, I've been working with Cam. You know, with Cam, it's at his own, you know, when he had his off days in camp. He would say that you know, Drew would step in, but yeah, Cam. That doesn't necessarily mean that that is going to would be the move to keep Cam there because he's had a lot of experience with Jay one. We don't exactly, I mean, just so everyone knows during the season, we see a small part portion of practice is not like training camp over out there for the entirety of the session. So who knows what's going on in terms of their offensive line configuration, but I thought it was notable that Jay one said that he's mostly been working with Cam. Not really a surprise, but that's where he's most familiar.

And you also have to look at this new offense. I would imagine that it would, it's not like just, you know, it's not a snap of the finger of being able to get a center, even as cerebral as Drew Kendall is, to be able to sort of immerse themselves when Cam Jurgens himself spent the entirety of the summer like the entire offensive line familiarizing themselves and really immersing themselves into this offense, which there's new demands. So I don't know, it's something that I probably spend way too much time thinking about this week and I will continue to do so. But Jay one also spoke about land in injury and he said he's a force. When when asked about how it'll affect the unit, he says a force, you know, you can't it's hard to replace a guy that has had the success he's had and has been such a great communicator smart player upfront. So taking a day by day, taking a day at a time. As I've gotten older, I've really tried to concentrate on my physical health, my body, making sure I'm putting the right things in and the healthiest things in.

I mentioned this anecdote that he had the other day on Tuesday about the 64 yarder to Don Tavian wicks and how wicks really rep did in practice. He didn't get the ball but he was full speed full tilt and they showed that in an offensive meeting because they were that impressed and that embodies Charmagne and said what the Eagles want to be is an offense.

And then the ball found Don Tavian wicks in the game on the similar on the same play so it just goes to show you that hard work does get rewarded and I believe that that is a really good indication of what the Eagles are striving for good effort toughness detailed all the things that you hear Nick Seriani talk about and Jayman said it's the reps over time that just lead to the moments that we have in the game how the game goes talked about it a lot the time we spent away learning this body language learning who he is as a player and then we're just trying to master the offense and the fundamentals of what I'm asked to do so he ran a great route got some leverage on it and was able to make a good explosive in the game. There you go that's that's sort of a round up of everything that I gathered and all the important notes from Wednesday at the Eagles practice facility they're back on the field tomorrow and I'll have another podcast for you and another one for you on Friday as well keep an eye out for rookie diary and all my work on inside the birds.com and keep it right here on the Czecho Daily that's going to do it for this episode of the Czecho Daily I'm Andrew to check out and I'll catch you all.
