About this episode
Two hundred fifty years ago a beer salesman named Timothy Matlack copied out the Declaration of Independence in perfect hand and left two mistakes. Alan W. Green says they were never mistakes.
On the 250th anniversary of the Declaration, Green returns to No Way Out. He first made the case in Ep 113. This time he goes all the way in.
Ponch and co-host James "Bart" Bartelloni sit with 22 years of Green's work. Count every character in the original and you get 6,771. The mirror of 1776. Drop it into a grid and every line runs 111 wide. Take the distance from the Earth to the Moon, divide by that number, and you land on the speed of light. Green reads all of it as pattern. Discovered, not invented.
No Way Out does not tell you the codes are real. The show does what it always does. Take outside information seriously. Run it against orientation. Watch destruction and creation happen when a 250 year old document meets a room that refuses to dismiss anything on sight.
Boyd said orientation shapes what you are able to observe before you observe it. Green says the founders left a way to reorient. Michael Levin's platonic space, active inference, the fourth turning, the precession of the equinox, sacred geometry. It all runs back to the one question this show was built on. How does anything stay current with a reality that never stops moving.
You do not have to arrive at 100 percent. Bart runs 51 percent and says so on the record. Either way, this one stretches the aperture.

John R. Boyd's Conceptual Spiral was originally titled No Way Out. In his own words:
“There is no way out unless we can eliminate the features just cited. Since we don’t know how to do this, we must continue the whirl of reorientation…”
