Texas is doubling down on one of the focuses of training camp as we prepare for a very physical game versus a Tennessee volunteer this Saturday. And we gotta break it all down. What's up guys? I'm Matt Long. Welcome to Inside Texas. Before we jump into the video for today, right now is the perfect time to join Inside Texas as we are running a promo.

Sign up for Inside Texas today. The insiders here with Inside Texas are working hard to give you guys all the latest information surrounding the Texas long horns. But let's dive right into what we got for today's video. Over the off season, Inside Texas reported that the long horns were lifting heavier in the weight room and putting an added emphasis on run game aggression. Earlier on in the year, we played against two group of six schools that gave us sort of a measuring stick onto how good was the long horns rushing offense going to look versus Texas state and week one. We ran for 4.3 rush yards per carry. And then versus UTSA this past weekend, we ran for 4.7 rush yards per carry. That number isn't exactly where you would have liked it to be. And this week before a big time SEC matchup, the coaching staff has put that emphasis on run game aggression right back to the forefront of practice.

Coming from Eric Naline within Inside Texas, Tuesday's practice was very physical because everyone knows this game is going to be very physical. Most champ reintroduce some drills from the spring to ensure physicalities up to par and practice also simulated the level of noise they'll hear in Nealand, which added a little something extra to practice. Most champ knows they have to be physical up front this week and stop the run. Tennessee running back, DeShawn Bishop is held in high regard. Now, this game is going to be physical and it's going to be one and loss in the trenches because that's how Tennessee football games are going to work this year. They're rolling out a true freshman quarterback in quarterback phase on Brandon. And he has looked pretty good so far. You watched some of the Tennessee volunteers earlier games. However, one thing that we can expose is his completion percentage. He's been a little bit inconsistent week one versus Ferman. He looked amazing. That's an FCS school.

You would expect him to look amazing. But when we take his completion percentage for only the FBS opponents that they've played so far, which has been Kenna saw state this last weekend and then Georgia Tech the weekend before that, his completion percentage against FBS schools is only 58.4%. That's something that we can take advantage of combined with Tennessee's run game, which is the best run game in the SEC through three weeks, averaging 298 rushing yards per game. We know that Tennessee wants to be this with the run game. It's on us to be physical enough to make sure that does not happen. So how are we going to do that? We're going to work super hard at practice this week and you'll harder than usual. Now I say you'll work super hard. Of course, we should be working hard at practice every single weekend, but or every single week. But this week it's going to be extra important versus the Tennessee volunteer. So earlier on in the video, I read off what Texas is rushing yards per carry was.

You may be asking yourself, how does that stack up against some of the other elite teams in the SEC? Well, I did the exact same thing for Georgia, looked it up right before recording this video. Georgia is the other top team in the SEC week one. They played in FCS school. We didn't play any FCS schools. So you know, take this number for what you will, but they ran for 10.1 rush yards for carry versus Tennessee state. That's an insanely high number FCS asterisk will remain on that week two. They played FBS Western Kentucky. They ran for 67.7 yards did the Georgia Bulldogs and this past weekend, they played SEC Arkansas where they ran for six yards per carry. So that is a the difference between Texas versus a group of six school versus Georgia against what is the weakest team in the SEC, but still in SEC school is 1.5 yards per carry difference. So that's a number that has to improve if we are going to go

where we want this team to go. Also, you know, when it comes to this run game, the run game, it would be okay if our run game wasn't putting out a very high rush yard per carry figure. If our past game was consistent, but the problem is archmaning ceiling when he's on, he could be the best player. The best, yeah, best player in college football. I was going to correct myself and say best quarterback in college football, but he could be the best player in college football when archmaning is really on. The problem is he's inconsistent and the past game in consistency. Combined with the run game, not being elite, just that's what scares me. And when you look at our schedule, which including Tennessee this weekend features seven more ranked opponents, that's where I get a little bit scared of what you're the future could hold with this Texas offense versus some of the really, really strong defenses. We are going to see in the SEC.

Now, being physical in this game is going to get a little bit harder as well because there are some injuries that we are dealing with. And we're going to get to that after a quick word from our sponsor. Let's chat a second about our good friend Andy Lutike at my perfect franchise. Contact info is in the description from Eric Naline with inside Texas. He writes today, injuries are a big storyline this week and five

talented long horns didn't practice, including Colin Simmons and Justice Terry Simmons was limited some last week in practice. So this shouldn't be a big concern inside Texas does expect him to play Terry seems far less likely to suit up. So first of all, we're expecting Colin Simmons to go, which is great. Best player on the defense. We're going to need him. Whatever he can give us. If he's not fully healthy, we, we, we need whatever he can give us. But inside Texas is expecting him to play Terry on the other hand, far less likely to suit up. That just means someone else is going to have to step up. Tennessee's number one ranked in the SEC run game is going to be difficult to stop. We're going to have to find a way. Some guys are going to have to have a big weekend on Saturday. If Justice Terry isn't able to go, we got to make sure that we are, you'll prepare properly during the week, be physical and practice. So we are prepared for this matchup on top of everything else that we've

mentioned with the Texas run game. There is one stat that it's a bit of a gold line, a golden lining or silver, silver lining, a bit of a silver lining stat for the upcoming weekend. We talked about how strong the Texas run game offensively is, but their rush defense is actually a weaker part of their team, which is pretty surprising for a team that really is trying to win the game using their line of scrimmage on both sides of the football. The Tennessee run defense is the 14th best run defense in the SEC in terms of rush yards allowed per game. So that is a number that gives you some optimism for the Texas run games weekend. Looking like this could be a game to get that run run game on track for us. So that's something that excites me, got to find a way to take advantage of that stat and get Raleigh Brown and Hollywood. Smothers going in this matchup. And hopefully we can get that, you know, make that, you'll throw down the line

into a better run game for the future. That's what I got for this video. If you stuck around this long, I appreciate you taking the time to watch the video all the way through.
