Texas' Swain Wins SEC Newcomer of the Year

0:00On March 9, Texas, Jr. Daylan Swain has been voted the SEC Newcomer of the year by League Coaches. The 6-foot-8 guard forward from Columbus, Ohio, leads the Longhorns in scoring at 17.7 points per game, rebounding with 7.5 boards, assists at 3.4, steals with 1.8 and minutes at 32 per game. He's the only player in a power conference topping his team in all five categories. Swain also earned second team, all SEC honors. This makes him the first in Texas program history to win SEC Newcomer of the year, joining three others who got the award back in the Old South West. Conference Days is the second year in a row. Texas has a player snag of big league honor following Tree Johnson's freshman of the year not last season. Fans and coaches alike are buzzing about Swain's impact after he transferred from Xavier, where he averaged 11 points and 5.5 rebounds as a sophomore.

He started all 31 games, hit double figures in scoring 28 times and notched 7 double doubles. Texas sits as the number 10 seed in the SEC tournament in Nashville, facing number 15 Ole Miss on Wednesday around 6 p.m. central time on the campus, SEC Network.
