About this episode
Texas Roadhouse surpasses Olive Garden as the top casual dining chain, with $5.5 billion in sales in 2024. LongHorn Steakhouse and Outback Steakhouse follow, but Outbacks parent company, Bloomin Brands, plans to close 43 locations due to rising costs and fewer customers. It's March 25th. Welcome in. This is Derm News Today, where local news meets AI. Texas Roadhouse claimed the top spot as the leading Steakhouse chain in the U.S. last year, while also overtaking Olive Garden to become the number. One casual dining chain overall. The chain racked of nearly $5,500,000 in sales for 2024, according to research from Technomic. Longhorn Steakhouse came in second among Steakhouses with $3,000,000 in sales. Follow closely by Outback Steakhouse at $2,000,000, $100,000,000. Even with those strong numbers, Outback's parent company, Blooming Brands, kicked off a turnaround plan late last year due to rising costs and fewer. Customers That plan means Blooming Brands will close 43 Outback locations by not renewing leases through 2029. It also includes shutting down a Fleming's Prime Steakhouse spot in Houston's Upper Kirby area after 25 years, though the chain keeps too.
Other spots nearby in that region. Blooming Brands cut 100 corporate jobs earlier in 2025 and runs brands like Caraba's Italian Grill and Bonefish Grill across. More than 1,450 restaurants. No word yet on more closings for those. Other Steakhouse operators face similar woes, with Landry's closing several McCormick and Schmick sites in older chains like Ponderosa and Bonanza. Down to just a handful of spots. As casual dining grapples with tough economics, expect more shifts ahead in the industry.
