A Texas man named Robert Bobby Leon Smith III just got hit with a 12-year prison sentence for running a massive $61 million dollar. Medicare fraud operation out of Archer City. The scheme stretched across Texas, Florida, Maryland, and even the Philippines were smith used fake or bought doctors orders to ship out unneeded, orthotic braces, foot baths, and genetic tests to patients. After a four-day trial in 2025, the 50-year-old pleaded guilty to conspiracy and health care fraud charges, but then he bolted before. Sentencing. Staying on the run for over a month until U.S. Marshals tracked him down. Beyond the prison time, a judge ordered Smith to pay back $32 million in restitution for a $9,200,000 plus some real estate in Texas. This sentencing sends a strong message in the ongoing battle against health care scams that drain taxpayer dollars from vital programs.
