Texas Longhorns Cut Down Fouls, Advance in NCAA

0:00On March 21st, the Texas Longhorns basketball team spend most of the regular season battling too many fouls and shaky defense, which led to tough. Losses in close games, but in the 2026 NCAA tournament, they've turned it around with cleaner play and stronger stops. In their first four win over NC State and the next matchup against BYU, they cut down on whistles big time. Earlier this week in Dayton, Ohio, on March 17, Texas held NC State to just 17 fouls while committing only 10 themselves. Then against BYU, they stayed disciplined with 19 total fouls and no player picking up more than three. Coach Sean Miller had been blunt about the fouling problem all year, saying it hurt their explosive offense. Now he's thrilled with how their defending top scorers without sending opponents to the line often. That discipline shown against BYU star recruit AJ DiBanza, who still got 12 free throws but couldn't wear down Texas like he has other teams.

1:02It's helped them protect leads in advance. Looking ahead, Texas faces Gonzaga in the round of 32 at 610 pm on Saturday. The Bulldogs average over 85 points a game, so the Longhorns will need to keep fouling low to slow that high-powered attack and stay alive in March Madness.
