On April 8th, Houston, Texans just locked in quarterback CJ Stroud through the 2027 season by picking up his 5th year option. Despite a rough four-interception playoff loss to the New England Patriots, the team is riding with their young star for at least two more years. They also grab the option for all pro-defensive end, Will Anderson, another stud from their 2023 draft class. No shock there, Anderson's been dominating since day one. This guy's a beast, former number three overall pick, rookie of the year, two probals, one all pro nod and runner up for defensive player of the year last season. Folks expect the Texans to chase a huge extension soon, potentially making him the league's top-paid defender. Stroud story hits different though. After shining as a rookie, his stats dipped hard-limited to 14 games in 2025, with just 19 touchdowns and 3,000. 41 yards, that divisional round meltdown exposed some real flaws.
Now the pressure is mounting for 2026, with his pay jumping from about 1 million bucks to 26 million in 2027. Bounce back or risk getting benched, the Texans are betting he rebounds and leaves them deeper into the playoffs. From around the league, powered by AI, this is NFL News Today. I'm Corey with the story.
