Teen Charged in Huffman High Senior's Murder

0:00Birmingham's story is making news on March 12th. A 17-year-old suspect has been charged with capital murder and the shooting death of 18-year-old Ronald Martez Bennett Jr., a Huffman. High school senior, back on February 1st, 2025. The team was taken into custody this past Wednesday in Birmingham, where the shooting happened in the 600 block of 8th Terrace West. Bennett was driving a vehicle when he was hit by gunfire and a passenger crashed it into a home's yard after trying to take control. Bennett was found dead outside the car at the scene. He would have graduated high school that May, but instead his classmates honored him with an empty seat in diploma during the ceremony. Another 17-year-old was charged in May in connection with the killing. Police have not released a motive, but the charge is capital because Bennett died inside a vehicle. Meanwhile, two other men were killed in separate shootings early Sunday in Birmingham, one on 57th Street in Innsley and the other in the same, 600 block of 8th Terrace West.
