It should have been one of the safest venues in the world. I wasn't worried. The U.S. President re-living the scare in a one-on-one interview and the moment, secret service agents swept him to safety again. My thought was, you know, I've been through this before a couple of times and I probably made them act a little bit more slow. They said, wait a minute, wait a minute, let me see, wait a minute. And as they please go down, please go down on the floor. The gunman intercepted and disarmed in the lobby and identified as 31-year-old Californian teacher, Cole Thomas Allen. Mr. President, do you know if you were the target of the gunman? I don't know. It sounds to me I read a manifesto. He's radicalised, he was a Christian believer and then he became an anti-Christian, you know, he's a sick person. Allen sent the manifesto to his family 10 minutes before the attack, detailing his plan,
describing himself as a friendly federal assassin. Then at 8.36pm, he stormed the security checkpoint, armed with a pistol, shotgun and knives. In the note, he described his targets as administration officials from the highest ranking to the lowest, adding he had rage thinking about everything this administration has done. And he also wrote this, I'm no longer willing to permit a pedophile rapist and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes. I'm not a rapist, I didn't rape anybody. Oh, you think he was refined to you? I'm not a pedophile. You read that crap from some sick person, you were disgraced, but go ahead, let's finish the interview. In his letter, the suspect expressed his surprise about how easy it was to walk into this hotel, carrying multiple weapons and check in ahead of an event, hosting the US president and several of the most powerful people in America. It's raised serious questions about security.
I think the secret service needs to reconsider having both the President and Vice President together, like it's something like that. Check Grassley would be the President. Have they all been taken out? As the longest serving Republican Senator Grassley is third in line in presidential succession, Trump using the attack to pitch his new controversial White House ballroom. I'm building the safe ballroom. And one of the reasons I'm building it is exactly what happened last night. Alan will face court tomorrow as King Charles and Queen Camilla arrive in Washington. The scarce sparking urgent security reviews with assurances. The royal couple will be safe in the United States. In Washington, D.C., Mali Hogan, 7 News.
