Tanev's Surgery: Leafs Look to Next Season

Toronto may believe's defenseman Chris Tanov has had core muscle surgery and will sit out the rest of the season. The 36 year old is expected to recover fully and join training camp for the 2026-27 campaign. Tanov has barely played this year after an upper body injury on November 1st against the Philadelphia Flyers. Before that, a groin problem kept him out for 23 games, limiting him to just 11 appearances total. The team has really missed his steady presence on defense. Coach Craig Barube said Tanov pushed to get back on the ice this season, but the surgery was the right call and it went smoothly. Now with Tanov's sideline, the may believe spine themselves 9 points from a playoff spot. They seem headed towards selling off pieces before the March 6th trade deadline. Looking ahead, the focus shifts to next year. Tanov should be fully healthy by then, giving Toronto a boost on the blue line come training
