Global stories making news on March 9th. A former Syrian Air Force intelligence officer, living in Britain, faces charges of crimes against humanity for his role in cracking down on. Pro-democracy protests in Damascus back in 2011. The 58-year-old man has been hit with seven counts, including three for murder, three for torture, and one related to murder under a UK law. That target's serious international crimes committed overseas. This marks the first time Britain's Crown Prosecution Service has charged someone with murder as a crime against humanity, building on a past case. From 2005, where an Afghan warlord was convicted of torture abroad, he was detained in 2021, after leading a unit that suppressed demonstrations in the Jobar district east of Central Damascus, at the outset of Syria's Civil War. Police say the investigation involved global partners, and a counterterrorism commander stressed Britain's no-save haven stands for war criminals.
The suspect appears in Westminster Magistrate's Court tomorrow, with his name with hell for now. A message from our sponsor supports today's story. It is a pillow that plays your podcast and music without earbuds. Feel for listening in bed, S-O-L-L-I, solely pillow.com.
