Global stories making news on March 15th. A Swedish court has ordered the detention of a 55-year-old Russian captain from the tanker C.A.O.1. The ship was suspected of using a fake flag from Macamaro's islands while sailing in Swedish waters. Coast Guard officers boarded it south of Treleborg and found documents that looked forged. The vessel, which is on the European Union sanctions list, was heading from Brazil to Primorsk in Russia. It has a history of carrying Russian oil to places like Brazil to dodge Western restrictions. Russia's shadow fleet helps evade oil export bands put in place after the Ukraine invasion in 2022. These ships often have hidden owners and insurance. On board were 10 Russians out of 24 crew with the rest from Indonesia. The Russian Embassy is keeping a close eye on things. This marched the second such seizure by Sweden in a week. Earlier, they stopped the Kaffa, a ship thought to carry stolen Ukrainian grain now anchored nearby.

France has grabbed similar tankers too, like the Grinch and Borokai. Prosecutors plan more questioning of the captain who could stay detained up to 14 days. Thanks to our sponsor for supporting today's coverage, your pillow just got smarter. Your podcast and music, S-O-L-I, solely pillow.com.
