Sutton Bonington Fire: Air Quality & Health Concerns

0:00On April 24th, a massive fire broke out in Sutton, Bonington, Nottinghamshire, on 15 April just before 10.45 in the morning, torching, buildings, timber stacks, and trailers. At its peak, 13 fire engines battled the blaze, which is now raged for over a week, sending thick black smoke across nearby neighborhoods. Earlier this week, shifting winds blew the smoke straight into resonance backyards, making the stench unbearable, like burning plastic with a metallic, tongue that clings to everything. The fire service says most of its out, but deep hotspots and waste piles make it hard to call fully done, and this isn't the first time, a similar. Blaze hit the same industrial estate back in 2018. Folks there are straight up trapped in their homes, sealing vents with cling film, keeping pets inside, and avoiding outdoor play, or even drying, laundry. They've assessed the risk as low, even though smoke irritates eyes, throats, and lungs, worsening conditions like asthma.
