HUB and Spoke. Audio collective. This is Rumble Strip America, Halman, and this is episode three of a periodic series called Life of K, which is about K's life, but also about what life in general sounds like and feels like day after day. This episode is called Summer Time and Dead Batteries. Welcome. I like that Vermont is not pretentious. I like that too. But the waves made it. It won't be easy. Okay.
Nothing is turning on. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Okay. Okay, I know. All right. Let's see. Samantha had her wedding shower. What you did not. Yeah. You weren't able to make it, were you? No. And when's the wedding? The 20th of June. I had a text sometime this week to another shower or something. I couldn't quite understand it. I just didn't pay any mind to it. And it was like a couple's shower. I never heard of such. But anyway, I don't know why they sent me anything because I got a couple.
I ain't got nobody to take me. Yeah. That sounds good. Anyway, I haven't heard anything about the shower they did have a, you know, since it was over with. I haven't heard anything for what she got or anything else. Mm-hmm. Or no, no, thank you, no. I guess April and them will be going home. They were going to his daughter's yesterday. She said Eddie was going to paint a room for his daughter. She's getting ready to have a baby, you know. Yeah, another one. Another one. That'll be number seven. Number seven. Oh, dear God. Yeah. One more time. One more time. Oh, it should be. Fuck. Fuck.
There we go. Yeah. See here. Come on. Oh, shit. Come on. Oh, fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. For the past few nights, there's been this animal outside my window. Screaming. It... It's just... It's shouts all night.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. I think it's a bird. Like a large bird. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Maybe it's an owl. Hey.
Baaah. What an existence. Soon as the moon comes out, you're just like, ah! Baaah. Baaah. Baaah. Baaah. Ninja. Episode 1103. Through the AI-looking glass. Security topic. AI impersonation attacks. Thanks, everyone, for accepting the invite. Don't worry. No one else in this meeting can see or hear you. Just us.
The reason I call this meeting is because I think one of you new hires isn't who you say you are. You used an AI-generated resume to disguise yourself as the perfect candidate. Then use deep fake video for your job interview. All for the purpose of getting hired for your remote work position. Once hired, you used an AI filter to hide your true identity during video calls and live stream events. All to steal company data and install malware. Which resulted in last month's ransomware attack. What the hell? I'll admit, the company is partly to blame for not requiring live-ness checks, such as holding up today's date or government issued ID before extending offers. Delaying system access until IT and HR complete probationary identity audits also could have helped. Agreed. So I'm going to do a live-ness check now to find out which of you isn't who you say you are.
The way it works is simply wave your hand in front of your face, like this. If you're using an AI filter, the software will glitch, your face will distort, and will immediately know you're the hacker. Let's move to you, Mac. I've noticed some inconsistent behavior during video calls, like strange lags, or your camera conveniently won't turn on. I've noticed your speech doesn't always match your mouth movement, and poor lighting obscures your face. I simply can't afford better lighting, okay? I'll show you what I already know. Mac waves his hand in front of his face. Unusual background stories are reluctant to provide documentation, and a preference for asynchronous interactions can also be read flags. Also, never showing up to social events, which you commonly have an excuse for.
Palmer, you're up. I'd rather we find some other way to do it. Okay, Palmer runs his hand in front of his face. The deep fake blitz is revealing Palmer to be a hacker. I should have known it was you, Palmer. Thanks for all the funds, folks. My hacking groups, Erconium, will put them to good use. Holy shit. Holy shit. That was like right over the fucking parking lot. Whoa!
That's going. Oh, wait, it's missing. They just scored a home run by knocking it over the fence. Why isn't everybody more excited? Because it's the opponent's team. Oh. The battery is dead. Like dead, dead. It is just stone-called dead. Stick shift. This card got me here.
Just thinking about this is a car I brought from home. Down in Virginia. A car that's been with me through breakups, through homelessness. A car that's been there. Dark nights and for months, when I'm lost, and I can't see where I'm driving, because it's snowing too hard. Still got the buttons. Everything is like a smartphone now, but this car. Everything clicks and snaps. The stick shift is grippy. It's got a good parking brake.
Okay. Well, I'll start cleaning it up. All right. Napkins. Driving glasses. Listerine, of course.
Three shots you're on at the old parking. Oh. Wow. Woo!
Some fuses, higher pressure gauge. That was Life of K, which is recorded by K-Fips and edited by me. I want to thank Chelsea Edgar and Amelia Meath for their help on this show.
