In 2001, another man was arrested, charged, and later acquitted of the crime. Complaints have surfaced about how Suffolk Police managed the probe, handled evidence disclosure in court, and what they said publicly after that, acquittal. The independent office for police conduct reviewed a recent referral and decided the forces professional standards team should dig into any mistakes. From 1999 to 2001, Suffolk Police already apologized to the acquitted man and told him how to complain and he'll get a chance to appeal the results if needed.
