Sudanese Man Jailed for Abducting, Assaulting Girl

0:00On March 14th, a 32-year-old man from Sudan, named Muhammad Abdul-Razik, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for abducting A, five-year-old girl from her street and sexually assaulting her in his home. The attack happened on March 30th in Birmingham, where he grabbed the child while she played outside and took her inside. Earlier that day, Abdul-Razik had been drinking beer and smoking synthetic cannabis, leaving him heavily intoxicated. He had already made inappropriate comments to the girl's mother on the street, which made her uneasy enough to keep a close watch on her daughter. The mother quickly noticed her girl was missing and searched nearby spots before hearing cries from Abdul-Razik's house. She tried breaking a window with a board, and when a neighbor climbed in, they saw the assault in progress. Two men then forced the door open, held him down, and waited for police. At Birmingham Crown Court, Abdul-Razik was convicted of false imprisonment with intent to commit a sexual offense, sexual assault, and assault, following a trial.

Police praised the mother and child's bravery in the investigation, noting such predatory acts are rare, but devastating. With the long sentence in place, the focus now turns to supporting the family as they recover from the trauma.
