Hi everyone, this is Hope. Welcome back to the podcast where ever you are right now, walking to class, studying late into the night, or taking a quiet moment between assignments. Thank you for being here. Thank you for pressing play and allowing yourself a breath of stillness in the middle of everything that's asking for your attention. Maybe you've been feeling tired, overwhelmed, or unsure if your efforts are enough. Maybe the exams, deadlines, or expectations are weighing heavy. And you've started to wonder, can I really do this? If that's where you are today, I want you to know, you're not alone and you're not behind. You are a learner in progress, exactly where you need to be. Let's take a small pause together before we begin. Inhale, exhale. Okay, let's begin. When it comes to studying and learning, our mindset plays a bigger role than we often realize. Research from Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck shows that the way we think about our abilities, what she calls our mindset and when Yan can shape how we learn.
Students who believe intelligence is something that can grow through effort tend to perform better, stay more motivated and recover faster from setbacks. Positive affirmations are one powerful way to nurture that mindset. They aren't about pretending things are easy. They're about teaching your brain to focus on growth instead of fear. A study in the journal, psychological science found that self-affirmations can help protect against stress and improve problem-solving performance under pressure. Another study from Carnegie Mellon University showed that students who practiced affirmations before challenging exams were less anxious and performed better academically. Affirmations work because they help quiet the inner critic and activate parts of the brain connected to self-worth and motivation. They remind us that our value isn't tied to a single grade or test, but to our persistence and willingness to learn. So today, let's build a few affirmations you can use when studying feels heavy, when your motivation slips, or when you need to reconnect
with confidence. You can say them aloud, whisper them or just hold them quietly in your heart. Affirmation 1. I am capable of understanding and mastering new things with patience and focus. Affirmation 2. My efforts today are planting seeds for future success. Affirmation 3. I am calm, focused, and open to learning. Affirmation 4. I release the pressure to be perfect and choose to simply do my best. Let's pause again. Inhale deeply. Exhale slowly. Let your shoulders drop a little. Affirmations don't replace studying or effort, but they transform the energy behind your effort. Instead of studying from fear, what if I fail? You study from curiosity. What can I learn today? That small shift changes everything. It turns learning into growth rather than punishment. So before your next study session, take a moment to center yourself. Repeat an
affirmation. Remind your mind that you are safe, capable, and growing because you are. I thank you for being here. For like showing up not just to study facts and formulas, but to study yourself. To understand how you learn, how you grow, and how you can support your mind in becoming your ally, not your obstacle. And before we close, a quick word from a partner in your growth journey, if you're ready to bring more focus, confidence, and calm to your studies, check out the self-pause app that's S-E-L-F-P-A-U-S-E.
