And we're going to get started with what we're doing today. We are doing what is best for September fishing. Trying a new different way to do this program.

1:01We're going to do one long live streaming. We can be uploaded as a podcast and then we'll be cutting it up into different segments and be uploaded all throughout the old social media. So I guess we'll start from my farthest to the left. The man, the myth, the legend, the Hollywood celebrity of I cast 2026. John, how are you doing? Pretty good, Bent Carrot. Doing good today. John, I mean, the thing about John is he interviews him and they go out and win. I mean, they do go out. Brian Smith, interview, training Kenny. I mean, if you want to win a Bassmaster Blue Trophy, you got to go through me. Yep, just about it. About John. Yep. Interview, John or interview and you'll win. Catch fish. Oh my gosh. Well, you need to know. That's pretty cool though. Yeah. And because we didn't know then at the time. No. That was before those tournaments. Well, I intentionally went to I cast. I picked out the hammers and hopes that they'd win and get me more views and get Jake's on the map. For him to walk into a trade was and there was nobody else there. It was like that kind of a 10 minute conversation with him there. Yeah, it was almost like he was waiting for us. He was waiting for Jake's to come interview him before he won England the year.

2:04So, Jake's, Jake's is getting on the fishing map. A fishing world map quick. That's right. All right, guys, and we got confirmation on Facebook that the audio is good so we can kind of just get straight into the show as needed here. So next man up to my left. The man the myth, the legend of Jake's being tackled Jared. I come. You've done this once or twice, dude. Come on, man. Give everyone they've been missing you. What have you been up to? Gosh, you know, I'm. Salton, you know, Jenny moved to Texas and you can't replace somebody like that. No, you can't. I mean, Jennifer, her mind like she would see it. She wasn't always on the water, but he'd see it. It was in her brain like real. I mean, she's the only person I know. She sold a gentleman one guy a right hand left handed baitcaster. Like who does that? Like the same guy. I'm like either one or the other, but no, she sold him both. And so with her moving to Texas, like now she still works for us. She still does all the ordering. I'm stepping in now five days a week, five, six days a week in place of her.

3:06I cannot replace her and be clear on that. She's still in the payroll. I know we're a little worried. Dad's a little worried, because whereas before she would order it. She received it, check it in. We put it up. She had other responsibilities here. Now that she's in Texas and she doesn't have to receive it or put it up, like I think she's just sitting at the computer and just dad's credit card, I think is maxed out. And she just keeps spending as money because boxes are coming in 10, 11, 12 boxes. Like we can't even get the stuff up like in another more boxes are coming in. And so I feel like I'm responsible for that. Well, I text her like two or three times a week saying, hey, order these, order this. And you got to think too, you're one of like 50 or 100 of people are like, hey, do you have this? Do you have in this color? This and it's like, and remember 85% of the store has customer been customer recommendation. So that's kind of what I've been doing. I've been here working in different capacities, but it's been good. It's been good. So we continue to get new customers season.

4:06I can't believe like we're coming out of summer now. Yep. We're entering fall and then next you know the winter will be here and it's just the calendar. It just keeps rolling. And then guys, if you want your comments to come on up, just go on over to YouTube. Facebook, we're up on Facebook and I'm checking Facebook. There are comments on Facebook, but they're not showing up for some reason on the live stream. So I God bless StreamYard. You're such a high quality platform. I pay so much money for. So anyway, ClipBin, it says, hello, how are you doing? Tom says sounds good, loud and clear. We got Dale on there too on Facebook that says, can't believe you guys are doing this right now in the middle of the day on on Mondays. I did, but this is the best time for everyone. So and you guys don't catch it right now. It's okay. The upstream, the live stream will be re uploaded as a full blown thing. Then I'll be chopping it up as well. So we did talk about this being September, the transition period. And I think it's safe to say that this is going to be an Indian summer because my God this weekend, it was hot as hell. I don't see it immediately dropping to 60 in the next week or two. So are we going to be dealing with this very prolonged summer bite?

5:07What do you guys think? I think the night's been cooler. The nights have definitely been cooler or cooler mornings. I think water temperatures are starting to come down, but I don't really think John. Yeah, Lake Anna, water temperature definitely dropped and you could see the transition with scope in action. You're seeing those baitfish start to move deep to shallow 100%. And I don't know like, I don't know about everybody else, but I feel like with such a harsh winter that we had in a lot of lakes, frozen, the Chanda river froze. Yeah. And so like the spring was hard, I think the summer was off. It was different than a lot of seasons or years. So my hope is that going into this fall winter, I think I think I'm hoping that it'll, it'll come back as far as a good, you know, good catches. I mean, you were catching them here and there. I don't know if that's going to system across the board everywhere, but I know there's been some low weights too in a lot of different areas. And that's typical summer. Yeah. August September, September is I think, and I'm going to do this video or this poll probably in September,

6:10which is what is the worst month for fishing? I think September is up there. September. It's got to be one of them because if you think about like a January December, at least for like smallmouth, that's when you could literally catch a 20 pound bag of smallmouth on the winter rivers. July can be pretty good. June, September might be the worst month, honestly. Well, more specifically that transition that two to three week time period and anybody of water in our area is it has a potential to suck. Brutal. And Chris Gorsuch said this, I think when we did, this was a long time ago. I think it was when we first started fishing TV. We had the river, the river seminar here. And he said, you look at a calendar and you think November, automatically think Christmas time, because that's what marketing is. But around here, that still feels like fall finally. And you can have that fall bite almost into December. And I think here, once we do the October special, I think it's going to have to be too distinct. I think there's going to be the late October, which is going to really feel like fall and this fish are chewing. But that early October bites going to still feel like September, where it's still hot as hell.

7:12And it hasn't yet really kicked in fully to where they're putting the feed bag on. But you know, every year is a little bit different. Before we get into the base, the last thing is the drought. We can't not talk about this. Smith Mountain Lake looks like a desert. Bugs Island, the pictures are crazy at bugs. And it's even down and you were at in a. Yeah. Lake Anna is two to three feet down right now. My first fishing spot Saturday was above water level. I could actually see one rock and two stumps where I caught bass off of that are out of the water right now. And and a lot of the docs that we flipped last year are now out of the water. So for the guys that are going to fish the classic coming up at the end of the month, I would recommend doing some pre-fishing and making sure your spots are still still have water. I want to say too, though, that is a good time guys. You know, if you can get on the water, this is a great time to see things that you typically can't see.

8:13Kind of like tidal water. Yeah. You know, sometimes in practice, it's good to fish it on of the lowest tide because you can, if you're not familiar with the water, you can see a lot of things when that tide comes back up. You know, or the water that Lake fills back up. So just expose us some things. And so it's kind of not a bad idea just to go out and just look around and take some mental notes of what to be at stump or, you know, whatever. It might be that I buddy mine. The last time they drained beaver dam, he went out there and walked the lake and geo tagged all the big rocks and stumps and structure for when it filled back up. It's very smart genius. Yes, absolutely. But I mean, we can, yeah, we want to complain about it, but also maybe use that as an opportunity to do some homework that will pay off in the future. We're going to be on a percent brighter on Jake's bait and tackle. Facebook page says, well, based on everything it's supposed to be good snowfall this year based on the Almanac, I believe is what he meant. So I have no idea about that. Was a dream about the farmers on like how many times I'm in spot on I think this is the, and because my dyslexia dyslexia, I miss El Nino or Nel Nino.

9:19Like we're in one of those years right now, right? Like where it's we are in a drought and it's a cyclical thing. So I don't know if this means we're on the back end of it or we just started the couple of years of drought. But yeah, Jen clear water. I mean, looking at the smallmouth stuff, these places fish like trout streams right now. It's so freaking dry and clear. And I have always had this hypothesis talking to some friends of mine and stuff that the reason you catch those big smallmouth when you launch for a kayak or jet put tournament early. I think those fish are become 100% nocturnal and they move up the feed early in the morning in those key spots. But then what happens is when you catch them on a buzzbait for saying the morning, it's not because they live there. They're transitioning back into those deep holes because when the Shannon, Della has like a deep hole is three feet and Jen clear. Every otter, eagle, osprey can get them if they're in that super shallow stuff. I would love Travis if you're listening to this. I would love to do a raffing trip at night, a night fishing trip because I would really want to know what the topwater bite is for smallmouth if you did a night float trip. I guarantee it. Oh my God. Exactly right. They feel safe.

10:21Yeah, where the predators can't get them. So they're more apt to come out. Plus water temperature drops to the summertime, that cooler water temperature. Yeah. Plus and creeks when the water drops, if there's a deep pocket back in that creek, make it back to that deep pocket. Yeah. Yeah, it's, I really want to do a night night, a night fishing episode because I feel like that's something that we that doesn't get talked about as much anymore. But it can really be beneficial, especially in summertime tournaments. Like, and it's also fascinating how there's distinct windows at night too when you talk to people like, you know, even at one or two a.m. Like you think you could be out there all night, not necessarily. They're winners where it just shuts down completely as well. We could we could do that like live with a night vision goggles like spec ops. If you know how to get yourself a hold of those things legally, then you know, have some of that stuff in the studio. No, you know, fresh out of it. We spent it all on on the makeup and everything, making sure everyone looked good. But it's a proof and even these like like predators to come by like night fishing is, is especially in the summertime. Because you got to think too, water temperature at the surface versus water temperature at 20 30 foot.

11:25But into your point, Tom, you know, some of the night tournaments that I have fished where you might get bit seven o'clock. And then you might not get bit to midnight. But then that to the to your point two to four o'clock in the morning, sometimes be a dynamite by two. Where they have pushed up and they're feeding. And so it is an interesting. And I think I don't want to say real quick to on that. When you think about a cycle like we, if we're waking up at five thirty six o'clock in the morning, or eating breakfast at seven or eight, let's say that you typically at noon and they eat again at five or six. Well, fish and animals don't they're like they're, they might eat at midnight. Yep. They might eat at two o'clock in the morning. So I've always said to right time and place. So if you get that fish fed and ate a big blue gill or eight big at four o'clock in the morning and you get on at six, they may not feed at six. It might be eight o'clock that particular day. But depending on, because they're not routine like we are, so that's cycle, whether feeding three or four times a day, whatever that is, that's why I think it varies where you're not always going to get a good morning bite. If that makes sense, yeah, I were feeding through the night.

12:27Yeah. And let us know in the comment section either now or when this episode re uploads, I've heard like when you have a full moon, that means the morning bite sound is good, apparently speaking. Also depends if it's a blue back spawn or a shad spawn. Like it's insane like how keyed in they get on some stuff. I know this episode we've been dropping here soon, guys and other than behind, but I had SB and McCluskey on who both guy like Anna talked about how like they're getting so dialed in on bait right now, that like quakeys and stuff and half cast full cast, they just don't work as effectively now as blue back imitators can confirm. Can't. How did and how did like Anna fish as we get into the bait? I would venture to guess unless you're, unless you're throwing a smaller fluke or a minotip bait and I'll get into some of those, you're going to struggle. Lake Anna right now, they are tuned into those bait balls and pushing them up shallow. And unless you're throwing what they're going after right now, you're going to struggle the koi key. They'll look at it and swim away.

13:28Yeah, it'll blow your mind. You'll throw a robo worm and they'll look at it and swim away. They're really keyed in on on the shed, the minos. So grow those. Why do you think that is? Uh, I just think they're so uber focused in this transition period. That is, that is their breakfast lunch dinner, those minos and anything that looks different from what they're currently chasing and pushing up. They're not even interested in it. I can, I can tell you that happened all day Saturday. Unless it was what exactly they were pushing, they weren't interested. Yeah. That's the first time I threw a koi key and they looked at it like, now, thanks, I'll bro. Well, with that said, why don't we get into why all these lovely people are here and checking out what we got going on and guys, I just shared this on the old Facebook to get to YouTube because I know a couple of people commented why I haven't answered the comments yet. It's because stream yard is stream yards. So without further ado, John has basically robbed Jake's of everything they have.

14:32A lot of book. I take a lot of things. So he is saying everything that you should be throwing is basically anything you get your hands on at this point. But so why don't we start with Lake Anna or Lake Anna-ish? And so that's kind of on topic. Okay. Uh, how about I push that to you because I see you've got more of the minos. I'm more focused on during and post transition for shallow water bites. All right. Let us give you one. I've got one. Just one. Yeah, you need to start. You got a lot. Yeah. And it's this bait in particular kind of in zoom or not. But this is basically my year round. I wait till you get in on me. Oh, I'm going to hand it to you. Okay. There you go. And talk. So what is it? Okay. So that is let him see the head, Tom. That is a, I believe it's a one quarter ounce axle.

15:34Uh, book. If you're familiar with six cents hooks, that hook actually rotates within the head. Huh. It's a three point I tie tech. And I matched the hatch the other day at Lake Anna with that particular bait. And the rest of that rig, you can buy those little spinners off of Amazon. And it's got a little plastic space for there too. Those come with the spinners. That's right. These are four anglers. So you can make your own under spin. And the reason I use this as opposed to the under spins sold off the shelf, this, this option is much more weedless. You can fish it shallow. You can burn through the debate balls. That's a killer bait right there. And Tom knows this. I have this bait tied up and I'm like kayak year round because there's always, there's always something that's going to eat that. It's got great action with a kayak bait. And that, that's something right now.

16:36I shouldn't be telling you guys this, but that's a bait. I have on my boat year round. It's always going to get bits. Just a matter of how and where you throw it. A hundred percent. It's a really good bait. Any under spin setup guys, and I'll also challenge a something that would be really good for you guys to do is get just the blades. You can get them anywhere, Jakes bait and tackle, green top tackle, warehouse, Walmart, screw lock ones, put it in your pocket. And when you're just fishing your regular swim bait, all of a sudden just screw that in and see if they're going to hit the flash. And then you can make pivots too. Yeah. So you can get these at Jakes. That's the axle swim head. I was telling you about to make it by six cents. Now this one you can see the wires coming from the head. So this is for more open water techniques. You're not going to be burning this so much in the weeds. It's not as weedless as what I just showed you. But that with a 3.8 chitech right now at Anna, that's going to play because that looks like the shath that they're chasing. And then the thing I would go with going keeping with the blue back bite. This has been talked about. Heck, no, ZM.

17:37It's not just a secret here at Lake Anna or maybe you think of Hartwell or Lake Murray. It is a fluke, but there's two different sizes I want to talk about. We have the regular standard five inch right here. Again, zoom, you can pick your poison. I'm just going to go with zoom because it's something that everyone can afford. I think you can pick it up pretty much anywhere they're standard. The other one is actually the seven inch. When you're dealing with blue back, it is very, very, very important to match the size. If you guys just Google what a blue back carrying looks like, they can get pretty long actually. Again, kind of size comparison right here between the five inch and the seven inch and how you fish this thing is just like a bat out of hell. One great thing to use is a the scrambler head here. Core tackle makes one of these. You're going to, you're going to thread this thing straight on. I know McCluskey and SP talked about using a EWG style hook. The problem with that sometimes is the hookup ratio. If you just thread a straight shank on there, so where that hook is exposed,

18:37because you're basically casting this out in the middle of nowhere, you're reeling as hard as humanly possible to get that thing to skip out of the water. And the speed is what attracts these fish. They are used to chasing down a little tuna because that's basically what a blue back is. It's one of the fastest bait fish there are. And the faster you crank that thing, the more insane strikes that you're going to get. Another thing that you can do, please check your tournaments to make sure this is legal is a donkey rig. Pros will do this too, where they'll do two at a time, cast it out there and just burn it and get it to skip across the surface. Absolutely, absolutely deadly. Another one I'm going to say for it is, I mean, I, I think I literally started throwing these back in 2016 when they first came out. It's the spy bait. Dual realis. I'm just a sucker for it because it was the OG. This thing is a lead pencil that will cast about three football fields. If you are fishing schooling fish, you must have something like this tied on a spinning rod because it's just your distance, whether you're in a boat or a kayak, I don't know a bait besides maybe a four pound like super spook that

19:40will cast that freaking far on spinning tackle. You will hit any fish that start busting within your vicinity with this thing here. You fish it two ways, I think one. You can do the slow sink and reel it back with the other way that works extremely good is just to burn it. When you burn this thing because these things are so perfectly to aerodynamic, they will never roll on you and they'll just have that really tight buzzing shimmy on the surface and it's got trouble hooks. So when those fish are slashing at it, which is the problem I will say with the fluke bait, when they slash at this, you don't always get them buttoned up with this because you got the treads, you will get those fish that swipe at the bait. Hey, for a little shout out to SB, the guest be fanned as Tom knows, when he rigs those flukes, I did see one of his videos where he did. I think using EWG hook because the EWG hook is level with the front part of that hook, he would bend that EWG a little bit. So that point is protruding just out of the spine of the bait for better hook up. So if you only have EWG hooks, bend them up.

20:41Yeah, I know some people also put a treble hook on their two at the back end of it. The thing I have with that is unless you're fishing for $100,000, those treads will kill fish if they basically get it into the crunchers. I don't side now. I haven't heard that being a problem as much with the full cast, honestly, which is interesting because I know treads was the first thing to use. And it seems like this fish weren't hailing it, but it doesn't seem like it led to a lot of dead fish, which is interesting, interesting little antidead there. But John, since your pile is vice is biggest all of ours, let's have you go one more time. All right, I'm going to cover buzzbait. I'm going to toss a pile in here. I'm going to talk about. All right. I'm going to cover buzzbaits first because I mean, buzzbaits, you can use your round, but fall transition going into when those bait are moved up shallow. Buzzbaits definitely in play. And what you want to focus in is downsizing your buzzbait. So and I talked about these last year. I love this buzzbait. It's the Deribuzz.

21:42These are sold at Jakes. It's 13 bucks. This is the last one on the shelf. I'm sure Jenny's going to be reordering him if she hasn't already. Here's actually here's mine right here. But the Deribuzz. Excellent buzzbait. Smaller profile, a lot of water displacement. The one thing people hate about buzzbaits is when they cock off to the left or to the right. This stays really nice up and down level. Excellent, excellent bait. And this also plays for smallmouth on the Shenandoah upper pot. I'm going to go through all these real quick. Probably my number one overall recommendation. And this has gotten a lot of press lately. No matter if fact, I think tacked will bass and cover this and a few other anglers for their September baits top baits. And that's the the missile baits buzzwagon. So back up a little bit. My favorite favorite buzzbaits. And I've got three or four of them right here.

22:43Brasalo. Brasalo baits makes, in my opinion, along with bizzbaits, the best buzzbaits out there. Say that five times fast. So this buzzwagon's been getting a lot of play. And I looked at the package and lo and behold, it's a missile baits buzzwagon, but it's made by Brasalo. So if you love Brasalo buzzbaits, they're the best out there. The missile baits buzzwagon is made by Brasalo. And they're sold at jakes and these are $12. These made that too. It's kind of black as it comes around. It's going to hit that way of design. Give it a little bit. Yeah, Brasalo is a small operation, but they make really, really good buzzbaits. That's really cool. And what you got up next, I think guys, I'm going to do this here. I'm going to give away a couple of gift cards for the people that comment right now, live, just also as a bait of test to make sure stream yards is not being silly, but also just kind of get some interaction with you guys.

23:44That's why I like to do live streams. We're way more organized actually when we have an audience. Yeah, if you could show this one too, that's a Brasalo butt. That's probably my number one buzzbait that Brasalo makes. And out of the pack, it's just they're ready to go. You don't have to tune them. They squeak. They they water displacement. Okay. So question then for me, did you, did you put this on here just for the live streamers? Is this actually a bait that you would put on the back of this? That bait's been getting hammered for God knows how long that's, that's probably my go to when I, when it comes to downsizing my buzzbaits. Huh. And I've been a Brasalo fan and fire for years. That particular one, I forget what the model is called. I'd have to look it up. Well, I got people to want to comment. Of course it does. You guys are just absolutely horse for like if, if you look up Brasalo baits or Brasalo louvers, he can't keep that thing stop. It's a small operation. I believe it's the owner, his son and his son's buddy that make all of their baits.

24:47They can't keep stuff in stock. But that I notice, John, you got your exterior here are going to be flapping, but you also your interior and most of the times this interior right here, appendages usually aren't, but we've got four things right here that are going to be. Yeah, I played with that because a lot of guys only like those, some, they only like those outer legs. Because the inner legs are a little bit further back. That's why I like this. This bait's made by the treasurer made by six cents. You could play around with it and see what does better for you, whether you like the outer legs, the inner legs. I put all four of those bad boys on there because this thing in the waters, if it's flipping and flapping all over the place. Yeah, but yeah, if you love Brasalo, get that new, that new missile baits buzzbait and it'll, it'll change your life on the water. David, where are you from? 25:48How do you like to set up your buzzbait? So what's your setup? Good question. Really depends on what I'm throwing at. And here's an excellent example right here. This is a trailer that is a bluegill and I'll have you, I'll hand that over to you. If you're fishing a lot of shallow bluegill and again, when this transition happens and it pushes all those bait fish up shallow, if they're shallow bluegill, this is the buzzbait you want to throw. 26:49So that's one you definitely want to consider. And I believe Sprow makes those. That's a weird tail action here. That's interesting. Huh. That's a crazy good trailer though. It's very shallow. I know the word firm. Like, now do you like to skip those back under docs? Is that 100%? Yeah. So it's not as like supple as like a like a last tech. Yeah. Something like that. That's interesting. Huh. I should have started with that. If you're new to buzzbait fishing, it's. That's interesting. Like that. Three D's. So for all you young potential buzzbaiters out there, Don Dusk docs. I don't know. So like that. So buzzbaits come into play because there's so much water displacement and they're loud. Don Dusk. And a good reason why these buzzbaits have that protruding wire out front. You bounce these off a docs. So when it gets hot and those fish are up shallow, that front part of this bait,

27:53you can bump it off a pile on and that's a very good reaction bait bite for a buzzbait for the for the bass that are up under those docs. So Don Dusk docs. You need downsides, but even the Shandar River, there's times you don't be afraid, kind of the plopper or same thing. Don't be afraid to throw big. They're not always going to eat it, but sometimes you'll get the bigger bite. Oh, yeah. I mean, like you're saying, you just never know. Let the fish tell you, but small or big, they should work. 34:02take a look at this guy and that's going to be a big player. Yeah, I'm for eight bucks. You can't go wrong. And not go wrong. And honestly, guys, I know John, we don't have a Hollywood set up, but this is actually working post-recently well and usually knock on wood. These cameras don't usually work this well. Well, notice too, you've got like frog, you've got bluegill, you've got baitfish. Like again, like you're saying, those that maybe you've never thrown a buzzbait, like just, you know, mix and match crayfish. There's no wrong way to do it, but try different ones. Yeah, I'm going to show you. So these are the brazalos again. And I'm sure, I'd venture to guess, missile bait is going to pick up more and more of the brazallo line of buzzbaits and we'll be getting them in here to jakes. But I've got one here for dawn dusk, you use black because that's what pops at what shows it shows up the best when those bass are in the water looking up.

35:06And it's a full moon or dawn or dusk. They're going to see black the best. I'll show you that one. And the last one, this has a bizzbaits trail around it. It was white, dipped it in a sharp truce. So one of these is for dawn and dusk and one is for the rapid-hannock river. And I told you on the other show, I either throw black or yellow on the rapid-hannock. So that black for dawn dusk, but that yellow and that trailer is not really popping well, but that sucker is glowing in the dark yellow. Those are two really good buzzbaits. How long do you give a buzzbait before you switch something else? With my patients, let's say a tournament starts at six. I'll go until six, 30 or so. And man, if they're not hitting a buzzbait then they're not hitting a buzzbait. But I'd venture to guess a good half an hour of throwing it. And if you're throwing a buzzbait shallow where there's bass, they're going to bite it.

36:08There's no question about that. And the last thing I want to cover, buzzbaits, since you're throwing a buzzbait shallow during and after the transition. And I think this is going to play a little bit later this month. For trailers, I like to use frogs because frogs are what's swimming shallow and a lot of these fisheries. So once they chase those bait up shallow, now the bait are up shallow, but also the frogs are already there waiting to get eaten, right? So everyone knows the ribbit that's been around forever, they're cheap, they're seven bucks and there's six in here. So a little bit over a bucket frog. Of course you got the zoom frogs. And the noisy flapper, excellent, excellent trailer. You might want to trim the head down a little bit. If you want a frog that's going to last and you're going to be able to pass it down to your grandkids, you get the Z-man. Yeah, these last forever, the last tech.

37:09But the goat toads, these things, great swimming in the water, they're narrow profile, they're very, very good buzzbait trailers. Go ahead and show that one because that's a no-brainer trailer for shallow buzzbait fishing. Yeah, and of all these, I would go with that one just because I don't care what baits cost as long as they catch me fish. If you think about these are a little bit pricier, but they last you so much longer than some of these other options. Like the zoom frogs are awesome. Those are more expensive, the Z-man's, but they're going to last you twice as long as the zooms. So for trailers, once that transition happens and everyone's up shallow, I really, really like the frog trailers on the buzzbaits. The buzzbaits. That's a lot of buzzbaits. He likes buzzbaits, guys, if you didn't catch on there. Yeah, they're good for riding. So let's do it. Let's have Jared chime in with the hero. So, you know, as anglers, we're all creatures of habit and we all have our, and as I see

38:13this in Jakes too, you got your power fisherman, you got some guys can finesse, very few can kind of do all the whole spectrum. But what I would encourage you to do is, and this is what I'm doing right now, is a drop shot, not something new, but what I am saying is guys at Powerfish, and that's all they want to chuck them in, like if you can make yourself slow down, and especially when you're talking about the month of September, I've always liked to downsize, but you know, that drop shot finesse can sometimes catch fish. And what I'm going to show you today, so this is again, this is, I'm going to say new to me, it's not something that it's not my go to. But I'm kind of forcing myself here these last, this last month to say, you know what, I'm going to commit to this and I'm going to do this. And it's a, and I saw this in a Bassmaster magazine probably 10 or 15 years ago, but a double drop shot. I'm a little bit long on this, it varies on what you want to do, but a double drop shot where you're going to have a weight, if you're going to just drag and a weight, let's go ahead and put a bait on the bottom.

39:15And I'm going to talk about the top and the bottom. And the way you would rig this, and there's a lot of different hooks you can use, but if you're familiar with the polymer knot, if you're not just, you know, YouTube polymer knot, and if you take an offset hook, you know, something similar to this, whatever size that you need on that, and then run a polymer knot and then just run your tag in extra long. However long you want it, whether it be 10 inches, 12 inches or two feet, whatever that is, down, and then you're going to town the bottom. So here initially, now what I like about this rig too is the combinations top to bottom are limitless, really. And it comes down to that. And what I have found is then what's kind of cool too is you can see what your ratio is from your catch rates on your bottom to your top, then you can change out. Now, the bottom, what I'd recommend, and you can do anything from a jig, you want to drag a jig and make that your weight, you can do that. A hook like this, this max four, EWG, offset hook, and this is the actual hook.

40:17So doing that on the bottom is going to give you some flexibility. And I'm just going to each time I come around, I'm going to show you a different combination from top to bottom. And the first one is going to be a bodega right here, any size bodega. These have been hot. You're going to drag that on the bottom. That's going to be your bottom contact. It's going to serve as your weight, but also, you know, that's your bottom rig. And you're going to catch fish on that. That's one good bottom option you might want to consider. And on the top option for the first one, I've got the mooch minnow right here, a straight tail. And each time I'm going to show you something different that you can change out without changing your hooks, without changing your bait. So you can kind of figure out like John was saying earlier, what are they wanted for a size profile, things like that, but that mooch minnow guys that went out last night. And I actually, I'd lost a tank. I never did get a chance to see it, but I'm pretty sure it was a large mouth, taking drag, run, and I played it.

41:21That's awesome. It just came on button, but, you know, so I don't have a picture to show. But also leading up to that, I had a lot of different combinations. And so that's the first combination top to bottom. We come back around again. I'll show you some other options that you can consider for top bottom rig. That's smart because you're basically replacing your drop shot sink or with another bait doubling up your chances or figuring out what works and what doesn't. Instead of just dragging a weight on the bottom, why not have a bait? Jig. I think that might be legal too in Bassmaster because their last month's Bassmaster magazine had this rig in there and it was a pro Bassmaster England that highlighted it. So I'd venture against its legal and that's brilliant. I'm doing it from now. I will say again, please check your local tournament regulations before we get yelled at because you didn't check your own tournament rules about that because I know there are some heel that just changes rules every five seconds. It helps narrow down bait selection and color. Absolutely. And there's also a getting back to John's favorite group, Taxical Bassing. There's a tracer that you could actually, I think it's called a tracer. You can put in front of a walking bait too that they've talked about in the past. Oh, yeah. Little thing with a double hook on there. So if long is it legal, guys? Go check that stuff out. It makes a lot of sense. Let me actually talk about some stuff here. So since I didn't grab as much because I knew John and Jared had been covered, I want to talk about a couple of two small mouth things and something just to use for the vegetation and overhang trees. Let us go first and foremost. Let's go with this here. Micro poppers as this water is super shallow and clear on the Shandongoa upper Potomac and the Susky. Guys, poppers do not get the love that they deserve. It's a slow bait. People don't like to fish slow anymore.

43:22But if you pretend that you're fishing a fly, you cast it above. You've seen that you want to fish and let it pop and float down. You will trigger some absolutely monstrous strikes, especially when they're keying in on bugs. If you go to buy the Shandongoa River right now in the evening time, they are on some kind of fly hatch right now. It's wild. Tiny poppers are absolutely the shit. And then of course, Ethan's down. Blue this out of the water. And I'll keep doing it. So I'll get all your hate. The torpedo. It still works. The biggest thing I would say is you've got to check the hooks on it. These hooks are not necessarily the best. You can go with some Scott Martin's treble finesse hooks. They're the round bends. They're absolutely deadly. And the last thing is to go with some kind of creature bait. Max for fishing right here at the Larry. This is another fantastic bait. Also, all patreon members get 10% off all of their orders to max four. This the TRD micro, the Helgrimite Black. I really like Black and Gin Clear water. I think it's something about the larval stage of these bugs. And it really contrasts on the bottoms. They can find it easier.

44:22It's absolutely wonderful this time of year for the small mouth. The last thing here, this thing has won a lot of money and saved my butt in tournament fishing. What you're going to do is you're going to take your favorite swim bait. Two here that I really like is the boring old Kai Tech and then the Fit Lovers. The Fit Lovers swim bait. And what you're going to do is you're going to fish at weightless with a big screw lock hook. This thing you can skip under anything and this is also a super key about this. If you like to fish vegetation, they are so used to frogs. Coming across their head and sitting on the pocket or when you break free of cover, when you're fishing a hollow belly or a fluke like this, what happens is when it breaks that pad or that surface stuff, it's going to sink and drop right into their face immediately and that'll trigger a strike. Because these fish are just not used to it. If you go to the Potomac or when the upper James or really the Prevei right now has those good mats and you see all those frog lines, not necessarily throw another frog but throw a fluke, a fluke or a weightless swim bait on a screw lock head.

45:24You will be able to get it across there just like you normally would. But again, every time it hits a hole or breaks free, it's going to become subsurface and drop in their face and that's like a cat reacting to a mouse, they just cannot handle it. So go give that a shot. It'll give them something a little bit different to try. I think that's all the stuff I got. And on this too guys, don't be afraid, both of them, even the popper, they talk about jerk bait, you always hear about cadence and varying it and the same thing here. This guy right here, you can do a steady retrieve and you're right, Thomas. And these have always and will continue to catch good small math, good fish. Steadi retrieve, calls it and let it sit, same thing with this, let it sit. I mean try this hard sometimes but let it sit for 10 seconds, 20 seconds. Is it a pop-hop? This one you can jerk, let it spit, you know, type thing but you can vary your retrieve and absolutely. And especially I think there's two different types of topwater bites. You have the tournament boring one which is in the morning but then there's another bite if you're fun fishing which is that evening bite which is, it's preposterously stupid.

46:26I think it's better sometimes than the morning bite honestly because it's going into the feed window versus leaving it. Yes. And when you have that daylight starting to go away, the thing with topwater is why I think they never get pressured or they don't get conditioned to it is because it's that surface bite. Like they will never get a good look at the topwater bite just because you have that refraction. Right. And so when you get that little bit of dusk going on especially you can just picture the river when it's starting to get dusk. You have a popper like that, there's so much surface action with the bugs and stuff. That's right. Give it a pop and let them sit there and just analyze it while it's drift away. You'll be insane. Like I think almost doing nothing drives them crazy when it's not really at all. So don't get discouraged if you throw it and you're only doing one thing and you just oh I'm going to tie something else on. No. Try those different retrievals. Yeah. And you might find out oh it wants it this way right. And so before you cut it off with those something else, you know, you'll get slurped by a six pound small mouth. It's so crazy that when they hit up these tiny topwater, it's usually not a big bite. It's just this little like hole under. I missed a big one on it.

47:26I like throwing the, not the frog but the mouse like the mouse. Hidal James. I mean, I had a huge blow up but it didn't blow up. I say huge blow up as a huge fish. It did the slurp. It came up behind it. It was a long cast. I almost didn't see it. It just like it didn't blow up and I was like wait a minute. So I reel down that the hook. It was huge but to your point, yes. And that's what's so cool. It's not always going to be the same blow up that we think of in top water. This comment's for Jared too. Doesn't make you feel good. You're too young. Doesn't make you feel good when you throw those heat ons. Like when you throw those old school baits at their work, makes you feel good, right? The jitterbug. I mean, I was throwing those when Thomas was in pre-k. Oh, 100%. Doing like colors and puff them out. Logic dragon videos. And what it, and it's fine like what old becomes new again because it's like this or the jitterbug. And you look at some of these Japanese that is basically a bunch of wings. Like it's a jitterbug basically. And you know what's so fine too? And Cush, we've had a lot this weekend that, Labor Day Weekend are coming out, you know, they want to go out, they haven't fished a long time, whatever. And this is a good one for kids. This is a good one for dogs. It's easy to fish.

48:26It's going to stay on top. There's no wrong way to fish it. But I always love when I say that too. It's easy for kids, but it catches fish. And it's like, I don't care what age you are or what experience level you want to catch fish. Like you were saying earlier, like, this will still work. Yeah, just replace the hooks on heat on baits and they make you feel good because they're old school. Yep. Head on heat on. BFS tackle. If you want to go down the rabbit hole BFS, you will spend money. It's a lot of fun. You can throw this on BFFs or just spending tackle honestly. If you get the BFS, make sure you get a reel that does have an insanely good drag system on it. So that way, when you do hook into a big smallmouth, because I will say this more than large mouths, big smallmouth elephants eat peanuts. So it is, I caught the, I think it was the second biggest smallmouth of the determined last summer in the Big Slack series, throwing one that was sharp truce like this. And it was the same, it was about four pounds or something like that. But again, pop and I just let it drift and I just do very few pops. And then it just passed this one log and it just slurped it.

49:28I didn't even see the fish just to slurp the boom. It was that big one. So yeah, 100% guys, I love top water. And we're in top water season. What do you got? Okay, you just mentioned the BFS rabbit hole. Let's go down it. Yep. Okay. This is a bait near and dear. Started it last year, started to get it heavy into BFS around this time because this is when BFS is going to come into play. With shallow fish and with a more condensed bait, the Karashi is the bait to throw. I had them go above. Which is part of their mega bass. I guess BFS line, correct? Yep, it's BFS. And I'll show you my rod real line bait everything here in a second. But initially they just came out with the original, the smaller Karashi. And then earlier this year, they came out with a Karashi 80. I used the smaller Karashi last year. I used the Karashi 80 this year and I can tell you, I like the 80, it casts way further.

50:32It's still a small bait, still BFS bait. Same profile, same sparkly tail on the end. But I'll hand these to you Tom so you can show those on camera. And this one right here is the original. Yep. And the 80. And for your smallmouth fisherman, that pink and white with a sharp truss on there, that is a deadly color combination. That's going to be a player for Shenandoah Upper Pop. That's a great bait for smallmouth. Always have to talk about this because there's still some old heads, braid or mono for your topwater. So I'm going clear line. You know me, I would fish straight braid if I could. A lot of fisheries that I do fish often, I can get away with straight braid with BFS. You want to have clear line. So I brought my rod that I specifically fished like Roshion.

51:35And the cash and rods, the icon series, I actually got this at Jakes. I believe the end of last year. I like these rods too because you can totally brain cramp and it tells you right on the rod what it's for. It says bait finesse system. So and this is a BFS reel. This is a Shimano excellent reel. Tom was talking about a drag system. You want the right reel for this type of system for BFS. So this specifically is a BFS reel. So I believe this is either, eight or ten pound. I believe this is eight. I'll go a little bit thicker and I'll tell you why in a second. But you can see I got a Kroishion here. Anyone that knows me likes, knows I like to throw that golden purple combination. And there's two things about this bait. You want to have a little bit thicker line than recommended. I know BFS reels. You can get up to 10, 12 pound line.

52:36I like to max it out because this bait is so small. When that that bass comes up to engulf this, there's a very good chance this whole entire thing is going to end up in his mouth or her mouth and further back. So there's two things I like to do with that. Have a little bit thicker line because this this line right here that first entry to is going to get chewed. So you want to have a little bit more durable line. And you'll you'll also see I don't tie clear line straight to a split ring. You know why? Why? I'm glad you asked that split ring is going to chip away at that clear line. You're going to break off baits eventually. If you tie your line straight to that split ring eventually that that skinny part of that split ring is going to get down to that clear line and pop it and you're going to be out an $18 bait. So you'll see I have an extra little ring on there. Be careful. This is an expensive rod. There you go.

53:37All right. So you'll see I don't tie directly to that split ring because that will chip away at that clear line. You want that extra split ring on there where that line can't touch any break in that little metal wiring or you're you're going to take the chance of losing baits. And also use a polymer knot because it's quick and easy and you're going to have to retie a bunch of times throwing this bait because you will get bit continuously on this bait. So unfortunately you're going to have to retie quite a bit because that line is going to get chewed. Sorry. Oh, it looks like a monkey trying to hump a door knob here me getting this thing dialed in. There we go. Also if you show the bait the best thing about this bait that tail I was talking to the folks here earlier about it. The folks. Yeah. The best thing about this bait you fish it like a jerkbait right?

54:39You're going to get bit more often than not when that bait stops when that bait stops that tail lays out. It almost when you're actively fishing it it's more streamlined as soon as you stop it that tail on the back expands and for whatever reason, bass or like okay now it's time to attack. It looks like a big old fin on the back. It makes the it actually makes the bait look twice as big as it is. We like two guys. I don't know. Yeah. I can't transition that into the camera but this feels just good in the hand. Yeah. That and what's crazy about this bait it's small but the weight transfer system is excellence. Japanese made you can cast this thing as far further than a jig or anything else you're going to throw. But that tail makes the bait look twice as big as it actually is. And I really want to talk about this with just let's give a tip of the cap to all to Jake's bait and tackle and really if you're trying to start a small business any mom and pop shop. I have now seen the corporate dragon and I don't care if they hear this because this is not my dream job but I work at a Cabela's Bass Pro Shop and to see how hard it is for them to get the

55:41niche stuff that we all like but then you've got a man like him take a bow. You don't have an issue ordering whatever this is because this guy basically harasses you on the phone to get it and whatever. Well, on corporate stuff right in there maybe they're going to have but you know dad I'd said like you know one thing he was so wise when he opened this up like we knew we know what we know right that's a small and that's why I appreciate what you're doing here too because we know what we know and that thing but by sharing information and knowledge but when people come in what he what he did was he listened to his consumer he listened to the customer and if you said hey I like to see you get this I mean this has been the last since 2012 it's been like you get this in and if it works for you it's going to work for him it's going to work for him and so it's being able to listen to the consumer the customer poor waters that are around us to Shanta River Lake Frederick but also Lake Anna and it's being specific to the fishery and the ecosystem for fishing so it's being able to listen but in corporate big corporate they don't listen not they don't listen they don't hear from the consumer like we can't hear and we can get Jenny

56:45can get in what what did it do the first thing you hear from Jen I texted I texted Jenny this morning I forgot she lives in Texas I may have woken her up sorry Jenny I texted Jenny this morning and I said hey can you get this bait and her first response was what color yeah done and it's percentages like if you think of like Bass Pro shopper these bigger things a Walmart they're 1% of the customer base customer base is different than a 1% of a a 1 stop shop place so they're like well why do I want to order five BFS rods like it doesn't matter but for here when people ask for it you can get the best of the best whatever you want and so again guys because you what we're dealing with right now with all these big monopolies go support your local shop Jake's I think there's there's one at Bugs Island like these little mom and pop shops are going out and it's just it's depressing because some of this stuff becomes history I know like Bobcat on bugs has been there for like 40 years like I mean that's getting close to being like historic I know I got a great place John what is this place the hardware store person nickels nickels hardware

57:49same thing like I think they're trying to make that a historic site or something because it's the oldest building right my son Jake worked there who high school great place if you're in the if you're in the looking for a hardware and personal it's pretty good yeah it's just neat that you have these places that are that old yeah and yet the service is so much better than these big corporate block places it's wide so you know like we still you know Jenny isn't Texas we got a special order for him Google Doc yeah you come in get your name your number we're gonna get what is you want color all that stuff and then it goes on there she can look at it and then she's against she's good and she has like six or seven eight different places that she goes and that's where she really is that's her niche too she can look here look there they don't have it in that color not all of the pie houses and carry all colors yeah things are direct yeah and it is so it is difficult but yet she's kind of mastered that ability to be able to know where to go to get whatever whatever it is you need and if we don't have it and can't get it we'll have other things that we can recommend that you know they're gonna be pretty close they not be the same but it's still be able to catch your fish thank you guys we got a you continue I'm looking for Facebook

58:51comments continue real quick go ahead real quick just to finish on the Karashi I'm not sure if you could be able to see these or not but the two colors I go with blue gill and I forget what this color is actually it's right here in the box but is it gonna say it in Japanese probably doesn't say but there's two colors I focus on there's blue gill pattern with that golden purple and that white with pink and sharp truce that's that's the small mouth killer and the blue gill for you know mostly other lakes we fish here I'm not as versed on these as it should be I have bought one but I do understand that there's like three or four different ways you can run this bait is that correct like it's different it'll it'll it'll very versatile in the fact that you can do it it can do multiple things yeah three different retries you can burn this sucker and it fish is almost like if you imagine burning a jerkbait same type of action that might play at like Anna right now where these fish are are motor and try not to get eaten by big berth a chasing them

59:55to the shallows right you could burn it past or through that bait ball more commonly you can fish it like a jerkbait like and I always do a one two three pattern three jerks one jerk two jerks three jerks just kind of keep it you know a little bit different pattern each time but these baits a lot like a jerkbait are going to be hit on on the paws and then I know a guy that fishes the Shenandoah where hook cast out and just let it sit in the water like a dead fish and every once while just whoop whoop twitch it and then just leave it laying there like like a half-dying fish and and he gets slammed on this white and pink and yellow Karashi yeah so yeah the different patterns but there's a reason why these came over from Japan and exploded and they're $18 they're worth every penny and the the only downside to this bait they will catch everything in the fricking lake which is not so the number one question I get asked at Cabela's because you guys don't know I'm

1:04:05but I'm going to say hey and I've done this I've done this I've like the big swim baits I will take the if I don't know I'm going to take the phone out I'll make two phone calls put them on speaker and say hey what do you think and the customer standing there like and but you're talking to somebody that uses those baits and they'll tell you how to use it yeah so I could be asha but I don't want to do that I'm going to get you to who who can answer that question for you good stuff all right guys so what else we got we got anything else we forgot to talk about yeah I got uh oh I've got two baits and maybe I'll give up a little time errands juice if you let go for it okay juice it away uh this is another BFS bait that I love throwing uh in the fall again those bait are getting pushed up shallow right so you're going to want and I just watched tactical bass in this morning and they they confirm this they didn't show this bait but they were showing other baits you want to crank bait that ranks at one to three feet shallow it's not getting hung up it's not getting weed it up but it looks like a bait fish more so then a lot of

1:05:07stuff we have on this table and it's fishing shallow and in and around that food source so jakes had this megabass blowly in stock I may have even gotten the last one I don't know if I did or not but uh I'll hand it off the time here actually I'm going to show you too so this is the megabass blowly and if you look at the nose water goes in it's above the ice time look at the gills it's at the other way okay yeah see that hole above those eyes the water goes into that first hole when you're when you're cranking this bait and it comes out the water comes out of the the gills on the side and if you're familiar with their pop max that's where they got the idea for the blowly and the reason why that's so valuable for this bait when you're cranking it that water is going in above the ice and coming out the gills and if you crank it quick enough

1:06:12it creates a bubble trail on both sides of that bait and if you're Japanese that's just oh it's so brilliant yeah it is so brilliant and if you're watching if you're standing up in your boat you're kayak and you're watching this bait being cranked in the water and the bubble trails coming out the gills the dang thing looks like a real bait fish really I would eat it if I were a bass this bait is brilliant again you see how I'm not tying to that split ring I've got that expert thing there because this is unclear line that's on a BFS rod and reel I believe this is 8 or 10 pound I'm not sure but if you're looking for a 1 to 3 foot crankbait I did call Jenny I texted Jenny this morning and I said hey you're out of blowlies can we get some more and Jenny said what color I gave her I think two or three options and I'll show you the small mouth option of this bait that works really good um but she said what color done so these will be back

1:07:15in stock soon um and these are pretty decently priced for a mega bass bait I know some of them get a little out of control but that that right there is an absolute small mouth magnet and you can see guys right then we back up some yeah cool see the hole in the head but this is far and above the best shallow crankbait you can buy because of that lowly technology where the water goes in the head comes out the gills yeah I had the hooks bound up there uh but it creates that little bubbled uh trail out of the the gill plates and it makes this thing look real in the water yeah that white and pink absolute small mouth magnet and I'll show you some other options of 1 to 3 foot crankbaits that are real good obviously that blowlies number one but uh the earlier version of that is a mega bass riffing I'll show you that one that's a good small mouth bait

1:08:22and I'm also going to show you up until that blowly came out the best crankbait shallow crankbait made and on planar earth in my opinion the six cents curve it is half the price as that blowly but almost as good uh it's a six cents curve finesse square bill you could throw this on a BFS system and if you show that one that may be tied on at a very not too far away tournament unlike Anna that bone color in one to three feet that thing is a killer um I'm not going to pass along these others because you saw the two in my opinion the two best shallow cranks there is but lucky craft makes a great one eema actually you know what show this eema that eema is pretty good there we got some stuff here never seen Tom Tom Sarell never seen something like that

1:09:26those headhunter clones of the man's minus one are working good too yeah so that's that eema I believe that uh swims uh one to three feet I have this bait swims very good it's almost like a flat slided profile so it has a little more wobble that's an excellent shallow water crank and one last thing I want to show you and I told Tom about this this is my juice session me even be giving this up the Japanese are always a step ahead of us in fishing right uh with the cranks now including their their shallow cranks they're putting blades so they're making their their cranks underspin it's a it's a crank and an underspin at a baby it would be this bait uh this is made by a nashini it's a chipwa rb they're not in the store yet here but if you can get a whole of these this I I'm not sure I would throw this on a bfs because it's

1:10:28a little bit heavier but just to give you guys a little insight this is what's come in for the future of crankbaits they're going to have underspins on them yep there's also um I got a screenshot these more when I will look at them at two thirty in the morning but there's a top water bait that they have that has a big-ass Colorado blade on the back of them yeah and the whole thing this bait does is it porphoses yep which is just so freaking cool if you can if you can study how the Japanese fish it's how we're going to fish in two years they're always a step ahead of us but if you look at any of the recent Japanese crankbaits they're looking like this guy right here with that spin on on the bottom and when you see this in the water just like just like a um um any other bait with a blade it looks like two fish swimming in the water it's just like crankbait like you know how a spinnerbait looks like three fish in the water yeah it's mama fish and

1:11:29or two baby fish swimming above her this looks like a bait fish and baby bait fish swimming under mama's belly yeah that sounded weird sorry about that that's okay and it's not named the Chris Hansen bait which is interesting okay um so I covered those covered those um is there anything left in the story that you have not covered yet yeah two more things that I'm gonna cover real quick uh Jenny got the burrito baits in I know the big swim bait guys know all about burrito baits uh it's from bullshad mic buka the genius shout out to Mike um these come into play at the end of the uh at the end of the month probably into October we're finally going to get to see guys swimming the big swim baits um I generally like to fish the uh the soft baits but I also I'm a little purchased today jakes

1:12:30they hurt me a little bit but uh these were just highlighted I believe Jacob Wheeler highlighted these options and a few other anglers but the big baits swim baits are coming into play uh I've not thrown the swag LT yet but guys are raving about that the buka is gonna come into play and also buying this one in the September October we're finally gonna gonna get to see this segmented hard baits like the trickshad start with five inch go to six inch and and bigger um this is why I like fishing at this time of year because you're not gonna get as many bites but you're gonna get bigger bites because you're throwing bigger baits and uh baits like this are gonna come into play um I bought this today and it hurt hurt real bad actually here's the receipt for right here oh keep that down here but uh Jenny this is gonna make uh erick myrusin requested these shout out to erick um um if anyone doesn't know about big glide baits the metro glide I'm gonna have you show that up on

1:13:36camera uh throwback makes these glide baits and you're not gonna find a better one out there hmm I love throwing big swim baits these are gonna come into play the end of September into October and jakes has throwback baits uh getting well you can because they're going quick I think I saw a couple on the shelf still they're a little pricey yeah just hang them up the other day there's I think two left after that one uh we've advertised it yet so I don't think it's gotten out we've tried some footage but it hasn't gone out so now it's your chance to get them while they're here for anyone that likes to throw big swim baits those are highly sought after they're hard to get to smaller company we bumped into them down to eye casts they're great people those swim baits are money and they're a little pricey but believe me is the price tag on there 134 99 yeah 139 yeah so that's for a niche group out there but for guys that like to throw

1:14:37big swim baits believe me they already know about throwbacks they're hard to get I bought one hopefully this one doesn't get lost but um I think that uh oh I'm gonna cover your juice go for it use it away uh our favorite guy from fishing dmv Tom errands won a tournament last year around about this time when those fish are in shallow you're gonna want to use a compact jig Jacob Wheeler talked about this recently during and after the transition you're gonna want to use a compact jig with a stout hook if that sounds familiar that's what Tom stated about his tournament win last year on the night you have to have a stout hook on a compact jig so this is a half ounce that's the size you want to use I just picked up a missile baits baby debum because it's an awesome trailer for a jig but if you love jig fishing this is going to come into play especially for compact half ounce

1:15:39jigs and and you're not going to get much better than a dirty jig those hooks are money when when you're fishing tuli's weeds are lily pads and you're when you're dealing with fish that are over three pounds you'll be shocked when you have to man handle them out there how easy that hook can bend out and when you're punching and flipping you don't think of it because that flipping hook is basically a gaff but when you're fishing a chatterbait or a swim jig the problem is that's not the same level of hook and so sturdy jigs actually makes a delta swim jig uh and their compact jig which has that gaff hook because when you're doing 40 pound braid an extra heavy rod as soon as that fish gets its head turned down towards the bottom in those in those woolly pad stems you're kind of cooked because it doesn't matter how strong that thing is you're ripping up a plant that's just augured into the ground you're taking all that with you you needed to have enough rod when you set the hook you just pull him out I hooked actually big fish the tournament it was probably six pounds and I and I winched him about four times and then the bait shot back I was fishing a reg I had two

1:16:39rods I was I switched to the regular one it bent the hook straight and I pulled it right out of his mouth when I got onto the surface yeah the heavy stuff dude in that niche bite is so freaking important and yeah and Jacob Wheeler talked about this uh he actually showed this same jig on his show I think he put out last week half ounce dirty jigs compact yeah compact and this is a um I'm gonna butcher this thing it's called the archieic style head yeah I cake whatever it's called uh archie or archie what's nice about this head if you don't want to commit to swim jig and you're a little bit you know weird about that this head is perfect because you can do a little bit of both you can throw this for docs you can swim it um it's it's kind of a jack of all train style ahead I really really do love this head yeah and for dirty jigs too good thing about them what's this six bucks you lose it who cares you time the next one it's not like you're losing mega mega mega bass lures exactly exactly and then you just kind of adjust the trailers as need be so what else we got so

1:17:44just finished up mine that I was those just turning in double drop shot and again the idea here guys too is the versatility be able to change out different things with the same rig and I'd have to retie uh straight tail first and any like you were saying earlier I don't care your brand color whatever you like try it great tail if that's not working for you go with the paddle tail mega bass haze dong is the possibility the mayor anything with the paddle tail your contact anything that you like paddle tail put it on your top hook right here um you can go straight you want to go straight where in the money worm right here in a smaller size you want to go bigger go bigger brine smith i think was shame playing right yeah i mean you murdered them on that so um you can i start with this i've had good luck with this but if you're not catching on this you can again quickly change out you can downsize change out to the minnow like you were saying earlier presentation

1:18:45is it subtle are they wanting subtle here or do you want something with the little boot tail paddle tail and whether you're dragging it and it's it's given a little bit of action maybe that's what the fish want on that on the top rig bottom rig uh we talked about the bodega on the bottom rig you can do a jig guys big TRD i like the big TRD same hook just change that out they don't want all the appendages go with the big TRD cut it down in half and now you got the the small TRD the net rig net rig on the bottom okay you're going to get bit um this guilly by muddy waters new product we have in here at jakes muddy water lures out of Pennsylvania so that can go bottom they also make a smaller version of this which could be good on your top rig and that's the other thing too mix and match you can do a worm on the bottom worm on the top it does not matter shake your head you're a shaky head guy go with your your favorite shaky head hook and put a worm on the bottom

1:19:45worm on the top and again you're just going to experiment and see are they bottom feeding are they feeding up in the water column uh you can try to you know hopefully figure them out by trying different combinations uh with one one setup you're not having to retire you can simply change out go with something different so you can kind of narrow it in on what it is or feeding on i've been I've been sure to guess to anyone that drop shots which which is what 97% everybody's are going to go to your rig because that's genius i mean you're just replacing the sinker for a bait and you say that but it's so funny it's so funny like and i'm seeing this where some guys will not it's kind of like the the spinning rod right yeah for how long it was a sissy stick like people would not you know a spinning rod yeah you weren't going to throw it you were throwing baitcaster but that is not true now like it's you have to have it you have to have it but there's still some guys and you're talking about old school there's old school or some guys it will not and i'm not that i'm narrow mind is so much but we just we're features of habit yeah and we want to we're going to do the same thing that we're used to what work last time we're going to do again now you can go too far

1:20:50you can go too far the other way too and you're just all over the place 100 percent you can't slow your mind down i'm not saying do that either but what i am saying is is maybe and i guess you know how would you do it sometimes you just i wouldn't say this in a tournament but leave some of this other stuff at home and just take something that you know like you're not going to go away with and you throw it i can't do that i can't do that try it sometime and if 14 rod molnar yeah my my kayak is going to be way down with rods every tournament i can be challenged take two rods no take two look at the deadliest anglers day and and day are the ones that only have a couple rods that they're scary and remark is in Edwin and marina it's got uh yeah uh uh uh john cox there we go i'm also saying your practices like just go out and then once you are using that you're using it more now i guess what happens you catch with it their confidence now goes up because oh this does work and so you gain confidence where if you have too many options you're going to be going to those other options really quick and you're like uh yep you know so just just a maybe a
