Stein Announces $40M for Hurricane Recovery

0:00Durham's story is making news on March 7th. Governor Josh Stein announced more than $24 million in mitigation grants and another $16 million for volunteer rebuilding. Groups during a recovery meeting in Marion, North Carolina. These funds aim to support long-term recovery from Hurricane Helene and build stronger defenses against future storms. Officials say the mitigation money will upgrade water and wastewater systems, improve roads and bridges, move buildings out of flood zones, boost, flood alerts, and prepare quick-star projects. Non-profits helping families fix and rebuild homes will get the volunteer grants to keep the work going. More than two dozen towns and groups, from Conver and Hendersonville to Black Mountain and County agencies, are receiving shares for things like new, flood gauges, dam fixes, and wastewater upgrades.
