Steelers Sign Rico Dowdle, Former Panthers RB

The Pittsburgh Steelers wasted no time replacing running back Kenneth Gainwell, who just signed a two-year, $14 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They brought in Rico Doudal, a former Carolina Panthers back, who put up 1076 rushing yards, six touchdowns, and a 4.6 yards per carry average in the 2025 season. Doudal went undrafted out of the University of South Carolina in 2020, and he also rushed for 1,079 yards with the Dallas. Cowboys the year before, joining Carolina. Now he reunites with Mike McCarthy, his former head coach from Dallas, who held that role from 2020 through 2024. Doudal stands out as a tough physical runner with great balance after contact and the ability to break tackles. He runs straight ahead, explodes at the second level, and stays reliable on third downs with solid hands. He caught at least 39 passes in each of the last two seasons, plus he's strong in pass

In 2025, he ranked third in the National Football League for rush success rate, first in rush expected points, added and fourth in rush yards over expected per attempt.
