Steelers Sign Rico Dowdle, Boosting Backfield

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed running back Rico Dattles to a two-year deal worth $12,250,000. This has a proven partner for Jalen Warren in the backfield. Dattles steps in after Kenneth Gainwell agreed to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dattles, now 27, just wrapped two straight 1,000 yard rushing seasons. He hit that mark first with the Dallas Cowboys in 2024, then matched it nearly exactly with the Carolina Panthers last year. He also set career highs with six rushing touchdowns and 297 receiving yards. He reunites with new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy, who coached him during his first five NFL seasons in Dallas. Pittsburgh struggled on the ground last year, finishing 26 league wide at about 103 rushing yards per game. Second year back, Caleb Johnson returns for the 2026 season, rounding out a solid group.
