States, Cities Sue EPA Over Greenhouse Gas Repeal

They are challenging the recent repeal of a key scientific finding on greenhouse gases. This move happened Thursday in federal court. The 2009 endangerment finding from the Obama years declared carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases a threat to public health and welfare. It formed the legal base for most climate rules under the Clean Air Act, covering cars, trucks, power plants, and more. The Trump administration finalized the repeal last month. This wipes out emission standards for vehicles and opens the door to rolling back rules on power plants and oil facilities. This is the second big lawsuit against the repeal. Environmental and public health groups filed the first one last month. The new case went to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Attorneys general from New York, Massachusetts, California, and Connecticut are leading the effort.
