Again here on Tuesday, SEC weekend is in the books. We got another SEC weekend to look forward to.

2:04Got a midweek coming up tonight. A coach has been fired. We will get into that as we continue on. But first, let's go around the room. Let's go around the table here to discuss how our teams did this weekend. Chris, again, we'll talk about the big story with your team here in a moment. Obviously, a lot of emotion. A pretty big weekend for you guys. It ended on a high note there with the Sunday victory. It should have ended with two on the heels of parting ways in the scenario. You had a two-one lead against Arkansas in the ninth inning. And just a routine ground ball followed by an air throw from one of your best players. Which sucks. But bad teams find ways to lose. That's what's up for me. I have to relearn how to do, which is win. But the scenario being gone, it's weird because you guys have watched as much baseball as everybody. It's like, they were up on the top step for the entire game. They were engaged. They were excited. They were home run celebrations. And it was like, where has that been? That's all very basic stuff. So it was good to see. Yeah, the one question that I would have about South Carolina is, right, Tanner has to be the interim coach, right?

3:06I think that's how we got into this mess. So I don't. Somebody, I think my favorite tweet of the weekend was somebody was talking about who Ray Tanner's next five candidates are going to be. It's going to be Skippertman, Aggie Gerito, some guy that he met at public. So he likes the cut of his jib in the in the sublime. Like it's going to be, they need to venture away from that. Okay. It's going to be you, Chris Marlar. That's what it's supposed to be. And your phone is where I can hear your phone buzzing right now. It's it's Ray Tanner. He's offered my heart. It's been real Chris. It's been fun. But enjoy coaching South Carolina. Ole Miss took on Kentucky. Kentucky's pretty good ball club, really good ball club. Got the was it Sunday, you know, salvage the series there with the Sunday victory? Was that right? Yes. And after the shutout on Friday, that was fantastic. The weird thing about this series, it was a horrible matchup for Ole Miss because Kentucky does all the things that would make a team like Ole Miss suffer. So that's how they lost the Friday game.

4:08They had three dropped fly balls in the fourth inning and that cost them the ball game. I joke that Ole Miss is not good at playing baseball. But they might be good enough to host a regional. Right. And that's where we are. If they're hitting home runs, if they're hitting bombs, they're good. But don't count on them to hit a sacrifice fly to move the runners over. Don't count on them to make routine plays in the field. It's going to be there taking batting practice and if they hit enough amount of the park, they're going to win again. You know, Steven is a guy that watched a lot of Gorilla Ball here the last couple of years. It's just so distasteful. I can't believe you guys don't have to lay down a bun. Move the runner over. I mean, come on. We're talking about productive A.B.s here. So what's their Kentucky does best, too? Is the sacrifice hits, moving runners over, stealing bases? It's a weird matchup. Yeah, it is. It is. No doubt. Kentucky is like the poster child for that. And Vanderbilt did a lot of that when they had in Rekate, in Rekate, Bradfield, Jr. as well. Tennessee started to do a little bit of that because, well, when you can't hit a whole

5:10lot of home runs and you're struggling offensive, you got to do what you got to do. So I mean, Tennessee had a double delayed steal, you know, to get a run on Sunday and kind of get things going. So anyway, back to you, Steven, I'm just making a joke there. Home runs are fun, but nonetheless, you've got to probably score. Home runs are great. But give me a two run single every single day at this point. Yeah. Yeah. Corey, big match up this weekend. I'm sure we'll talk about it here in a moment. But boy, then Vandy boys took one on the chin yet again to a really good team, obviously, in Mississippi State. Yeah. I mean, you know, you finally get your bullpen in order. Everything's good with pitching on Friday and the bats don't show up. And then the, then you finally get the bats to show up a little bit and your bullpen falls apart again. And then to make everything better and to make up for it, you get run ruled on Sunday. It's brutal. It is brutal. I, I still can't figure out this team. They, I mean, they've got a lot of injuries on the pitching staff. I guess they, they don't have that many arms.

6:12And okay, but still like it's, it's just bad. They're just bad right now. And I don't know what's going on. I don't know if it's, because it just seems like one thing breaks down and then another thing breaks down and nothing works together at the same time. That kind of deal. They're in a slump big time and I mean, they just got absolutely mauled by top to your team. So there's a lot of heat right now. There's a lot of that same heat that Paul Manieri was getting from South Carolina fans. A lot of that's being targeted at Tim Corbin, which sad to see. I don't know. It's just, it's getting away from it. We'll take him, we'll take him right now. If you guys are going to cry about Tim Corbin, one of the best coaches in the country, um, it's good to work with him saying that the fans, they, they, they, they just don't know how good you have it, man. I think the, the thing that was so shocking to me this weekend is I think Vandy, Vandy and LSU seems so similar, right? Where it's like, okay, if you hit really well, then all of a sudden the pitching goes completely

7:17away. And then like, you saw it on Friday, LSU comes out case and never throws, you know, it's 15 strikeouts, career high and, and everything seemed to be going well, 7-1 win. And then the bats go away for the final two games and it's just like them and LSU just cannot figure out when to put those things together. It's been, it's been tough to watch, man. And injuries, I mean, I guess, I mean, you know, it's kind of unfair with all the injuries to really say, okay, this, you know, fire the coach and, you know, all that stuff. I'm not necessarily there yet, but it is sliding downhill and there's got to be some way to, there's got to be some way to stop this avalanche before it becomes overwhelming for, for Tim Corbin and crew. But man, the, the bats are exciting when they're on. I mean, they've, I mean, I, I like the approach at the plate for the most part, but that with runners and scoring position, it just seems like they just go brain dead. All those, all those injuries and, and players out and none of them are the actual Vandy Whistler, which is something we, not wishing injury on him. I'm just saying wish he was not involved in the games either.

8:18It should have referred. She was going to miss the upcoming series and I had to Nashville to cover that Tennessee versus Vanderbilt. Here's the rule test. No, Tim. You can't. No, no, thank you. Two years ago when I was covering it, he was sitting right in front of the press box and he would stand up and go in the aisles and like, you know, put his, hike his leg up on the rail and just start with, I'm just like, oh my god, what's happening right now? Yeah. Here's the real test though. Two Whistlers. Well, I, I know one in, you know, my work, they work in tandem, so they can be as annoying as possible. That's how they got JFK. Yeah. What? What? Here's the real test here. What's him Corbin's in the boys inside for BP if they play the double header? Probably. No. No, he would do that on the issue now. I'm still not over that. I'm still not over. Nor should you. Listen, again, we'll get into the home and everything later on, but he said a quote this weekend that was like, they're talking about Arkansas winning 22 to six. He's like, yeah, the field was playing pretty hot tonight. That's not a thing. That's not a thing. Like, I don't, he is forgotten more about baseball than I'll ever know for sure, but

9:21at the same time, like, that is not a phrase that anyone's ever used on a baseball field. But you can't forget all that, yeah, same time. Right. The sad, the sad thing is he has forgotten it. Yeah. And also a really cool fact, Mississippi State has the top 25 attendance games in college baseball after this weekend. That's a cool fun fact. That's crazy. Yeah. You look at Tennessee and I never want to say a series this early in the year is like must win. Like, you got to have it. Fendi's got to have it. I can tell you that much. I think that's where you're going. Well, I was going to say this last weekend for Tennessee, like, if the wherever was a series like that, I mean, knowing what's on the schedule. I don't care how Vanderbilt looks. I don't care how LSU looks. There's so much talent on both those rosters. And they're going to give Tennessee everything they got. It's going to be challenging on the road of Vanderbilt at home and can tell us you. So beating Missouri, who isn't proved? Like Missouri isn't proved. They've got two pictures that are really good. Their facilities aren't improved.

10:23No, they're not. And the lives are not improved. And it's just pathetic. Like, you had to win that series and I'm like, everybody knew this. And on Friday, you get smacked in the face. They put three in the third and the seventh. They put two more in the fifth and they, they double you up eight to four. And then you got your back against the wall on Saturday. And you seemingly can't score runs. And your starting pitcher, Landon Mack, is just all over the place yet. You look up and it's like, oh, he's allowed only two runs. So I guess it must not have been that bad. Cam Appenzeller comes in just a fun night. He's going to be in the weekend rotation before too long. Just a phenomenal outing career highs, four and two thirds, seven strikeouts. Sixty-nine pitches are really, really nice outing there, a couple home runs in that game. Tennis is able to get the win. And then you come in. Tennessee had not won an SEC series in this last six tries. If you count the super regional loss in Fayetteville last June, it's seven. But it's been, it had been over a year since Tennessee, who just won a national title mind you, had won an SEC series at home. Like it's just mind blowing, Tennessee lost its last seven rubber matches.

11:23New care business on Sunday, Evan Blanco was phenomenal. Career highs, seven and two thirds, five strikeouts, near Greg Maddox-esque, right? Seven and two thirds, 84 pitches. Just super, super efficient. So Tennessee got a series when it absolutely needed. But again, it's, the slate's going to be pretty tough this weekend. I think that they've got to see it so surprising to me is that like you're looking for benchmarks that you don't, they don't need to be as good as they were in 2024 to 2025. But there are benchmarks of this program that just if I tell a leaving doesn't feel like they would necessarily go away and like I look at just the way they're winning games. First off, I thought the Missouri series win is much more impressive than people are going to give them credit for because I do think Missouri is much more improved. But like you look at just what a staple of that's offense in the past couple of years has been obviously hitting home runs and then to the amount of like the times they would put up double digit runs like through 24 games, they've done it six times. Last year at this point, they had done it 13 times, right? So you're cutting that production and half and you don't have to score 10 runs to win games

12:25by any means. But at the same time, it's like that is a noticeable drop off from an offense that plays in a smaller park. It just seems to have not found its way consistently yet. All been just getting better, the bads have gotten better and it's got to continue to come that way. I mean, it was, it was, it was looking pretty bleak there. You know, a week ago, two weeks ago, but it has gotten better and hopefully it'll continue to get better. 17:35And you said something earlier, he's forgotten more baseball than you'll ever know. And I second that, put that on me, Corey Steven. I mean, the guy is a great coach. He's honestly a college baseball legend, but he had been retired for three years. The whole college landscape had completely shifted in those three years, completely shifted. And he took a proud baseball rich school in South Carolina and just put it in the ground, man. I mean, it's honestly kind of sad. I'm not going to lie. Like, I'm not his biggest fan or whatever, but it's honestly kind of sad to see how this stretch of coaching ended for him. But he's out. South Carolina couldn't wait any longer. The 22 to 6 on Friday night was the final nail in that coffin. Yeah, he was the victim, for sure. I appreciate that you phrasing it that way. I did not feel that way. Listen, like, you never want to see someone lose their job. Like, I will never cheer for that, no matter the economy or what's going on. Like, that is a miserable feeling. It usually you would think you would have got that email. Like on Sunday night, like, I don't know if he knows how to use email.

18:36I would have seen him pop up with his age, but like, once he, you know, got his family to come over here and figure out the HDMI cord and all that kind of stuff on his computer and whatnot, he would have been saying, hey, come in Monday, me, you, the AD and the HR, we're going to sit here and talk. They did it before the game on Saturday, which I felt like was necessary. And also from what I gathered and what he and both sides said, it was a mutual parting of ways. It wasn't like he was just fired. Like, it was a mutual parting of ways. What that also means is they're not going to be on the hook for the 4.1 million dollar buyout. But how much are they going to pay in there to go away, too? I don't even know if it's going to be that much because the way he phrased it to, he did kind of piss me off a little bit the way he said something on this way out. And then just pardon me for a second, guys, I'm going to get on the soapbox here with some numbers and things that just show you how bad it's been. But he had a quote at the end of this that was like, yeah, you know, I just, we wanted to obviously bring back the tradition here, get back to Omaha and that was going to take some time to develop. But it's just frankly, it's just time I didn't, I didn't have to do it. It was like, no, you weren't even cloned, Omaha for what?

19:38What field trip are you going on? They got an aquarium out there. I didn't know about what are you talking about, Paul? He's going Omaha on ESPN plus. They got a zoo, big zoo. Yeah, actually, he's getting Omaha steaks. That is awesome. I would know all this because the team I cover has been known all the time lately. Okay, go watch what he percent off. He used our promo code. Yeah, that's right. And Christmas time. I hope he stocked up. There's, I don't know how much I got to pay everything like that. I don't know the mutual parting ways thing is great. The frustrating thing is you start looking at the numbers and I got tired of doing this like to our audience, which was just like, yeah, rock bottom. And then it's like a week later, you're like rock bottom again. Like I jokingly said this. I was like, there are addicts that would have looked at this and been like, oh, that's bad. Like that is it. I wouldn't even consider. And you're talking about it, he's continued to go get worse and worse. You have those games of Florida that you lose last week where you lose one, oh, and two, oh, in the first two games in the series. That's the first time in 46 years they had lost back-to-back games with zero run sport, 46 years.

20:39And then you look what happened against Arkansas. And again, the numbers, like just they tell the story, they give up 22 runs. And I know you're sick of looking at you like, well, you know, sometimes someone's going to get hot. They're going to, you know, catch fire and you're going to have a bad day. In 33 years before he got to South Carolina from 92 to 2024, that happened three times. That happened three times in 33 years. It happened three times in involuntary's last 14 games against SEC opponents. And it was like, at what point are you going to do the right thing and figure out how to get them out of there? And they finally did. And so I'm ecstatic about it because at the very least, not trying to just dunk on Paul, but it just feels nice to have some sort of like breath of fresh air again. And now, you know, like everyone's schedule is difficult in the SEC. You got LSU still. You got Bama coming up. You got, I think they have Vandy next up. They had Georgia and then Texas and all those kind of things. It's not going to get me easier, but now you can go into and saying, listen, Monty Lee's going to come in here.

21:40We're going to see what he can do in the interim role. He gets an extended interview process and then we'll go from there to the season. But I'm just, I'm so glad that besides Mike Shula, the other worst person that I've had to cover in this, in this job is finally gone. Well, you play Vandy at the end of the season. The last series before that, you see tournament. You don't see it either. It's so weird. Ole Miss has like a generationally hard SEC schedule this year. And we're like, oh, man, we just don't get South Carolina this year. And you think about that. When you think about that statement, how weird that sounds, it's unreal. How far they're following. Founder found this has nothing to do with the current team, but Founder's Park or Founder Stadium is still one of the best stadiums in the SEC. It's awesome. Founder's Park is to watch that place be empty on a Friday night when the weather's beautiful. It's, it's, it's just so sad. Got a group chat with some Tennessee media members that covered Tennessee baseball and South Carolina sent out that tweet a couple weeks ago saying, dog or the park not or whatever, when we were taking bets on it, there would be

22:41more dogs than people there. They, they did a thing this weekend that was on Friday night that was like, first thousand fans get a free rally towel. And I was like, thousand, a thousand fans. Okay. Like, so didn't money leak it big time consideration for that job, I had people calling me media members, not anybody that South Carolina obviously, but media members calling me about Josh Elan or interest. And I mean, I thought that would be a solid move for him at the time. But Monty Lee was getting a whole lot of interest, right? Yeah. And I think that it in hindsight, you look at it in hindsight, it's always 20 to 20, but I think it's very easy to say that that he probably should have gotten a little bit more consideration. Yeah. This, this clearly was just something that Ray Tanner, who's the, who was the AD on his way out, you know, he made one last little move and it was a move that was somebody he was familiar with, he was comfortable with. And like, it's, it, it, it reminded me a lot. I'm over here, obviously in Baton Rouge. I've had this conversation to have like a unique situation, but like him being

23:42here, he's like a legend here. But everyone here also knew, yeah, the end, the, the final years, he was in, you know, in Baton Rouge, like they all went pretty poorly. It just had this very less miles at Kansas football type of feeling to it that was just like, what are they trying to recreate here? Because it's not working pretty wild that through not even through the second week in the SEC play, a coach has been canned. But again, it is, yes, it's, you know, what they won the next day. Yeah. That's it's crazy. And they, and they were, they had all the, like you said, Chris, they, they were on the top step. They were, they were engaged. They were like, it just seemed like a new team. They were just like, oh, hey, okay. Do you know, do you know one of the first things he did when he got into? I learned, I learned a lot of this this past week. One of the first things he did when he got to Columbia, which was besides probably find his favorite butter, pecan ice cream or whatever old people do. He got there and said, listen, we're working out too much. We're going to cut that down from four times a week in the off season to two

24:44because we want baseball players, not bodybuilders. And then in the spring, he was like, yeah, we don't have good enough athletes out here that can hit them all far enough or throw them all hard. And you're like, grandpa, man, you hear what you're saying right now. I've probably never heard of sports science or sports analytics or anything like no, no chance he knows what analytics are. He's an advocate instead of a calculator. All right. What do we got coming up on the weekend on the way out? Stephen Willis. What's all miss got this weekend? Mississippi state. This week, hey, maybe Southern Miss can rough him up a little bit on Tuesday not before they see you. Well, they did last time. The Southern Miss is rough enough everybody. They're just walking ambush at this point. Former Tennessee pitcher who was here for just one year, former Djuko pitcher, Thomas Crabtree on the mountain night for Southern Miss against Mississippi state. So Ole Miss has got Mississippi state quick prediction. Do you have one for this weekend? Does Ole Miss get one to steal the series or what's going to happen? It's one of those things. If you win less than two games in a home series, it's a failure.

25:47But I don't know that this Ole Miss team can win more than one game. I think they can get one, but I think two is going to be hard. Gonna be tough. South Carolina. What's South Carolina? What's the issue got this weekend? You're going to talk on both. Yeah. So lots of good question about LSU. I don't know what they get going on. I can look now. There's so many things happening. We have spring practice tomorrow, pro day was today. No, for South Carolina, they're going to Georgia. And I would assume just like everyone else in space, Georgia, they're going to give up roughly 107 home runs on the weekend. But the pitching has been actually a lot better for South Carolina. So that'll be interesting. It's just a very, very tough Georgia team, I think, especially the play. Then LSU is going to host Kentucky, which should be, yeah, that is this weekend. So they need to figure out a way to get back on track. And the offense has not been great. Cooper Moore got injured the Saturday started. But they still have all the pieces. It's just like you're kind of waiting for them to put it together. LSU's two and four in conference play. Kentucky is really solid a chance.

26:49They could have another losing weekend and fall to gosh, you know, three and six. That'd be some Kentucky plays. Like I said, we thought about earlier, the small ball they played. It's a, it's just not a great matchup for them. Like it's similar to Oklahoma. And that was a super LSU's favorite Corey that not to harp on that, that lost where Gidry gave up the bomb on that Friday night game at Bandy. But like that game, you're, you're one pitch away from winning that game in that series. Oklahoma, you, you had at least a tie game, I think late in the Saturday game. And you had an error or something like that that ended up extending the inning and you ended up losing four or three. So there are a couple of plays away from having a much different narrative. But you know, it's a long season. So we'll see. Corey, you and I, our teams face off this weekend. Two teams that don't like each other. Obviously Tennessee got a much needed series win. Still very much trying to figure it out. Uh, what's your thoughts on this weekend? Well, Vanderbilt is licking their wounds right now after getting destroyed and dismantled by, um, by Mississippi state.

27:51Steve's like, Oh, shut up. Got the, uh, got the midweaker today against Tennessee tech. And then, uh, then it's hosting the balls here in Nashville. Thankfully, the game is in Nashville.
