Adelaide's story is making news on February 27th. David Spears, the former leader of South Australia's Liberal Party, has announced he's running as an independent in the upcoming state election for the seat of black. He was convicted earlier this year in 2025 of supplying cocaine to two people and received the fine of $9,000 plus, 37 and a half hours of community service. Earlier this week, Spears stepped away from party leadership back in August 2024, saying he was tired of the constant speculation. A video surfaced the next month that appeared to show him using cocaine, which he called a deepfake, leading to his arrest in October and eventual, resignation from Parliament. That resignation triggered a bi-election in November 2024, which Labor's Alex Daiton won, flipping the seat from the Liberals. In his announcement video on social media, Spears reflected on hitting rock bottom, but bouncing back, stressing that second chances must be earned. Your self-reflection and focus on community needs.
Now, he's set to challenge the current Labor MP Alex Daiton and Liberal candidate Reese Bishop in what promises to be a heated three-way race in. Black. DNN is sponsored by our partner, your pillow, your podcast, your moment, made for listening and bed, S-O-L-I-SoliPillow.com
