Speirs' Independent Run: A Wrench in SA Election

Despite the scandal, Spears represented the seven suburb's seat from 2014 until then, and believes he still has strong local. Spears took 50.1% of the primary vote there in the last election, even amid a statewide swing against his party. His return throws a wrench into the race, especially challenging Labour's Alex Dytin, who won the seat in the by-election on a nearly 10% margin against the Liberals. Labour viewed Spears as a double-edged sword. While he poses a real threat to Dytin by potentially grabbing second place and writing Liberal preferences to victory, his baggage helps Labour hammer.
