On March 17, South Carolina's measles outbreak has reached 997 cases as of Tuesday, up one from Friday, according to state and health data. The surge centers in the northwest part of the state around Greenville and Spartanburg, where it all started back in October and mostly hits kids. Between 5 and 17 years old, followed by those under 5, vaccination plays a big role here. With 932 cases among the unvaccinated, 20 partially vaccinated, 26 fully. Vaccinated and 19 with unknown status, amid concerns over low vaccine rates overall. Officials now have eight people in quarantine after exposures, but none in isolation, and they brought in a dozen infectious disease experts from. The CDC Foundation to tackle was the largest US measles outbreak in more than 30 years. This comes as the national total hits a 1st and 362 cases through March 12 and 2026, with warnings the South Carolina situation could drag on for weeks or even months.
