Somerville Joins West Virginia, Florida State Stacked at Guard

0:00On April 23rd, Martin Somerville, the 6-foot-3 sophomore guard from Bowie, Maryland, just committed to West Virginia after one season at Florida. State, he steps into the Big 12 as Coach Darian DeVries builds out his roster. At Florida State, Somerville played in 33 games last year, putting up 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. Earlier in his career, he's shown brighter at UMass Lowell as a freshman, averaging 13.6 points, and earning America East Rookie of the year with a conference record 11 weekly honors. He transferred to Florida State over BYU in April 2025, seen as a shooter and playmaker for their new coach. His exit from Tallahassee isn't a shock. Florida State loaded up on back court talent this off season, bringing in Anthony Robinson II, Cameron Taylor, plus freshman Marta Barnes, and Brandon Bass Jr. That crowded the minutes for Somerville heading into next season.
