This builds on a successful pilot in Greater Manchester last year, now expanding across the Midlands. Research from the University of Manchester shows balconies in England and Wales alone span an area equal to 250 football pitches over. 430,000 of them, plus window sales and terraces right for greening. Urban dwellers are loving the vibe, with folks like Jason Williams, the Cloud Gardener, leading the charge from his 18th floor balcony. He started during lockdown, discovered his high-up spot as its own warmer microclimate, and turned it into a thriving garden that sparked a whole.
