Sir Chris Hoy Launches Prostate Cancer Initiative

He's launching the Scottish Prostate Cancer Initiative, which aims to screen 25,000 men with a quick blood test. Diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer himself, Hoy wants guys over 40 to get checked early. He's sharing his story to stress how simple the PSA test is, just five minutes at the doctors, no pain involved. After his October 2024 diagnosis, doctors gave him two to four years to live, even though he had no symptoms despite family history. Many men think it's just an old guy's disease that moves slowly with clear signs, but Hoy says that's not always true. In Scotland, 35% of cases get diagnosed too late to cure, way higher than 12.5% in London. The project partners with EDX Medical Group and they've already had positive talks with Scotland's health secretary. Early pilots cost some late-stage cases for treatment and results go to NHS Scotland to improve pathways.
