Silhouette Band's Big Show for Alzheimer's

0:00On March 15th, a group of friends from Manchester, all aged 60 to 80, formed the silhouette band back in 2017. This APS group plays 60s pop and rock classics with a unique twist, using piano, guitar, strings, winds, and tight vocal harmonies. They're gearing up for their biggest show yet on July 1st at the 1,300-seat Stockpour Plaza to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society. The band starter as a four-piece and has doubled in size over the years. Founding members include Viola Player, Bev Ross, and her husband, singer Rod Peters, along with friends Carol, Jason, and Angela. Others like Johan Levy, Bronwyn Bevin, Carol Beardmore, and Michelle Schaefer joined later. They cover hits from the Beatles, Elvis, The Beach Boys, Dusty Springfield, and more. Band members say music keeps their minds sharp, boosts well-being, and sparks joyful memories from youth. For singer Carol Beardmore, the cause hits close to home since her daughter has early onset Alzheimer's.

1:02They believe their performances help older folks relive, care-free days tied to those classic songs. This gig marks a huge milestone, with two 45-minute sets on a stunning theater stage. Members feel incredibly lucky to be performing at this stage in life, calling their late star band, One of a Kind. Strings player Bronwyn notes they've evolved together, not just reformed from fame. The Alzheimer's Society is thrilled, saying every pound raise will support dementia care. With all profits going straight to the cause, this show promises a real celebration of music and community spirit.
