This is an iHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey, it was good, y'all. You're listening and learning the hard way with your favorite therapists and host care games. This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit of armor? It signals to the world that you're not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to. Listen and learn the hard way on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. When a group of women discover they've all dated the same prolific con artist. They take matters into their own hands. I bowed. I will be his last target. He is not going to get away with this. He's going to get ready to serve. We always say that. Trust your girlfriends. Listen to the girlfriends. Trust me, babe. On the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,

or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me. Clifford Taylor IV. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfills or conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to The Clifford Show on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcasts Network on TikTok. On the look back at the podcast. In 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 was big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex Egrish. Each episode, we pick you here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite artists. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild, I mean, it was a wild, wild year.

If I don't think there's a more important year for Black people. Listen to Look Back at it on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, the folks, it is Thursday, April 30th. And this weekend, one of the biggest movies of the year is coming out. It is already guaranteed to be a hit. And fellas, just sit this one out. And with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ. Do you all even want? Do you care if we accompany you all to see Devil Wears Prada to this weekend? I think it depends on the woman and the relationship she has with her guy. Okay, let's talk. It's just, say, general. Generally speaking, of course it's individual. But is this a thing that guys just need to, hey, enjoy this one with your girls? Well, I would just say it depends on the guy,

because look, this obviously, this movie is spurring all sorts of girls night out parties. Yes. All the women who watched this movie 20 years ago, the original Devil Wears Prada was out in 2006. So a lot of us women who are around at that age might be getting together with old friends, good friends, new friends to watch this together. But I had this discussion with you in this prompted this episode because I said, hey, obviously, yeah, I could get a group of girls together. But I'm in an age now where, look, the truth is, I love being with you. And I said, would you want to go see this? Would you go see this with me? Should I go outsource this, outsource this and seek seeing this movie out maybe with my daughters or my girlfriends? Or would you see this with me? And what did you say? Of course, I'll see it with you. But I didn't want to take away from an experience you might want to have. This is going to be a Barbie type phenomenon.

And maybe not make the same type of money, but as far as culturally, the experience and how women are excited about it, it's that type of equivalent. Maybe this one even skews a little older type thing. So I didn't want to take that away, but I'm not sitting it out. Oh, my God, I don't want to see that thing. I enjoy going to any movie with you. And maybe that's what you're talking about. It depends on the health of a relationship. Yes. Of course, I would love to go anywhere with you. Yeah, in fact, so here's the deal. This might be so sappy. But I actually, when I really enjoy something and have a blast with watching something or just taking something in, I always want to share it with you. So I actually wanted you to come, but I didn't want you to feel like you had to come. And then it just got me thinking, how many guys are just like, woohoo, wifey or girlfriends got her a thing with their girls, and I can go sit there and watch golf all day, or I can go golf with the guys, or I can go whatever, do my thing,

because she's got her thing. And that probably is generally speaking how most couples are probably going to approach devilware's brought it to, but not everybody. But that is the question. What generally should women do? What should guys do? Is this one where guys are just sit out and say, hey, honey, go enjoy it with the girls? Is this one that the girls prefer to go see it with the girls? Here's the thing. Yes. I would say, as long as you didn't because you were, ugh, this is so stupid, or eye rolling or groaning, if you're going to ruin the experience and yuck, and yuck the yum, then you should stay home. Okay. But if you can have some fun and laugh and just maybe try to understand why this is so appealing to so many of us women, then I think it's cool. If you want to be a part of it, want to experience it, want to see it, as long as you keep your negative opinions to yourself. You know, and help me, this is classified,

this isn't rom-com, right? It's called Romity. It's called Romity. It's what they say. It's like a rom-com drama. It's a little bit of everything. But the way, man, the first one had a love story at the centerpiece. Yeah, there was some love interest, yes. And half the way was pulled between someone who she had been with and a new flashy journalist dude who she was potentially falling for. But the main focus, that wasn't the main focus, but it was a sub plot. It was a sub plot. It wasn't, it's not a rom-com. For sure, it is not a rom. It's just a flat-out comedy. Yes, but there's drama and there's romance. Okay, I'm so cool. Actually, I think it's a rom-com. That's what I'm going to call it. Don't start. Yes. Don't start. But right now, this movie they're saying is heavily skewed towards women over the age of 35. Really? Did they have to do research on that? Perfect sense. Okay. Although both of my daughters already have girl groups ready to go this weekend. They're all going to see the movie. They've already got their tickets.

The core audience expected this weekend. Yeah. Overwhelmingly female industry analysts are estimating 75 to 80% of the opening weekend audience will be women. Okay. Wasn't that like a melani? I remember numbers from melani being similar. Similar. But anyway. We went to go see that together. And there was nothing but women in the audience of a certain age. But yes, those numbers make perfect sense. Did you see, too? I mean, do you ever feel uncomfortable, I guess, to be in an audience with mostly women and you're the only guy? I seek out those audiences. That's home for you. No. But do you know what? I was just at an event with you. Recently, dress for success in Atlanta, right? You were probably one of four men in a sea of 253 hundred women. Okay. I thought there were a little more. Maybe 500 women. It's fine. It's okay. It's only when you're in that audience, when it's sometimes when the subject

or the reason they're in the room is a really strictly female theme. It's like I shouldn't be here. I feel like I'm either dropping. I drop along here. But I actually like the idea of you being there because I think you being in on some of these jokes and being in on some of what makes us happy, laugh, excited, whether it's fashion, humor, whatever, I do think it's fun to have you be a part of it. I appreciate that. I think it actually can bring a couple a little closer if the other person who's being exposed to something maybe a little bit different is open to it and looking at it as an opportunity to understand perhaps even more, right? I am with you there and Rose. You know this. Yes, you were very familiar with this because you were there when this was all happening. I, until five years ago, I had never seen Devil Wars product and it was a big deal made out of it on air, live, a good morning America. I had never seen the movie. I know what it is. I respect what it is, but I hadn't seen it.

I went. I think that we came back and announced that I had seen it and I wasn't moved. But here's the thing though. And this is why I would encourage any guy, Rose. Some of my favorite, like in the top 10 favorite actors working today are in this movie. And you know Emily Blunt is one of my favorite humans walking and she, I didn't realize she was in the first one. Oh, huge role. Yes. And she plays such a biatch. It's so fun. A nervous, scared kiss ass biatch. Rose, so many of those people have become the biggest superstars working. Mel Streep was already in her own zone. Yes, Stanley Tucci. Yes, but now, but doing Tucci is his profile even risen. Absolutely. The first one came out, but Anne halfway. Anne halfway. Anne halfway. Our A, A, A, A list. Yes. Now, so even if you're not interested in the movie,

you love those people who are in it. Go see it. And the fact that they got all of them to return for this is such a big deal. Just, and look, the reviews are in. I believe right now, as of this recording, 78%, and pretty much the critics are saying this. If you loved the first one, you're going to love the second one, period. There's a little bit of a modern twist. In fact, they said if you're a journalist, especially if you're in print, or in any sort of magazine type journalism, this is a horror story or a horror movie. Interesting. Because it, yes, it clearly points out the declining numbers for folks in print, broadcast, et cetera. If you're a journalist right now, it is a, let's just call it an evolving career that might not be as stable as it once was considered. And this movie goes there and talks about all of that. So it does have some modern elements to it, which makes it cool as well. Now, we, I actually went on to AI. I haven't used a lot of it, but I see my daughter doing it all the time. And I thought it would be funny. I actually put a search in saying, should you bring your man

to devil, wears, proditu, and it gives me a whole list, reasons to bring him, and then a list of reasons he might not enjoy it. So I thought we could have some fun and go through that list with you, T.J. And then it will help maybe any of you are sitting at the vet on offense, thinking, hmm, should I bring my guy with me? Should I just go with my girlfriends? These are basically the pros and cons of bringing your guy to the theater to see devil, wears, proditu will have those for you when we come back. 2%. That is the number of people who take the stairs when there is also an escalator available. I'm Michael Easter, and on my podcast, 2%, I break down the signs of mental toughness, fitness, and building resilience in our strange modern world. I'll be speaking with writers, researchers, and other health and fitness experts and more to look past the impractical and way to complex pseudoscience

that dominates the wellness industry. We really believe that seed oils were inherently inflammatory. We got it wrong, many of the problems that we are freaked out about in the world are the result of stress. Put yourself through some hardships, and you will come out on the other side a happier, more fulfilled, healthier person. Listen to 2%, that's T-W-O% on the iHeart Radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me, Clipper Taylor IV. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated.

One week I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clipper Show isn't just a podcast, it's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So, if you've ever supported me, or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right what you need to be. Listen to The Clifford Show on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. There's two golden rules that any man should live by. Rule one, never mess with a country girl. You play stupid games, you get stupid prizes. And rule two, never mess with her friends either. We always say that. Trust your girlfriends. I'm Anderson Field, and in this new season of The Girlfriends. Oh my God, this is the same man. A group of women discovered they've all dated the same prolific con artist.

I felt like I got hit by a truck. I thought, how could this happen to me? The cops didn't seem to care, so they take matters into their own hands. I said, oh hell no, I bowed. I will be his last target. He's going to get what he deserves. Listen to The Girlfriends. Trust me, babe. On the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Do you remember when Diana Ross, double tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the look back at the podcast. I'm Sam Jay. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick you here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack.

I'm down with talking about crack on day, but yeah, yeah. Literally, put just so y'all know. Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah, for me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to Look Back added on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back to this episode of Amy and TJ. We are talking about the devil wears prodded to. It opens this weekend. Lots of girls night, outs, plan for so many women. But there might be some of us present party included who were really wanting to see this movie with our guys. And then wondering, is he going to like it? Is he not going to like it? And what he thinks about it, how much does that can impact my experience of the movie? And TJ has said that he is more than willing.

And actually, would you say you're happy to go? You're willing to go? How would you categorize it? Robes. I love the four leads. There's nothing else to talk about. I will go see Meryl Streep do anything. I don't give a damn. If you tell Meryl Streep is in a movie about a stripper. And she's the stripper. Let's go see what that's about. I don't care if you tell me she's that she plays. I don't care what she does. I will go watch Meryl Streep. And half the way is she's close to Hollywood royalty in a way. I know we got what, really sexy actresses and all this. Not saying she, obviously she's stunning. But Rob, she's a throwback to a time that I just love and respect. You know how I feel about Emily Blunt. She's Christ. Stanley Tucci, how much cooler can you get? This dude is wonderful. Robes, what I'm saying to you. I am excited to see those four people on a screen together. All right.

So you've just told me that we're going to have a good time going to see double wears products. And you know what? Any guy out there don't ruin an experience of any movie. If she's excited for you to be sitting there next to her, don't sit there and be an ass. Don't sit there and say, this is dumb. And this is really, don't do that. Just come on, give her that and enjoy. We can sit there for two hours and bite your tongue or try to enjoy. Don't just, that's not a good way to be out. Okay, Robes, that really. I know we don't have a huge male audience here. But my goodness, fellas, give her that. I agree. It's not a lot to ask. They do have on AI. The reasons to bring your guy and the reasons that he might not enjoy it. I want to get your take on this. Okay. How many do you got on each? One, two, three, four. One, two, three. So four reasons to bring him. Three reasons. Maybe while you shouldn't. Okay. All right, reasons to bring him.

It's a good nature date movie. Yes. The sequel is described as fun, breezy, and a serviceable comedy. Making it a comfortable, light-hearted option for movie night. Yeah. It's a movie. So just if you look at it as a date night, that would be one way to do it. High fashion appeal. Does your guy like Dior Gucci Prada? If your guy likes style or has any interest in fashion, he might actually appreciate that part of the movie. That's going to be a tougher sell for most men. Come on, honey. Let's see this. They're going to have the latest fashion. Okay. Let's go to number three, baby. I thought that's why you liked the Kardashians show. All that fun fashion. No, sweetheart. It was all fair. It was fun to look at. I wasn't analyzing, looking for spring. All right. But it's just pretty to look at. They're okay. Fine. That's more for the girls. Fine. The cast chemistry, and you've already talked about this, fans of the original will enjoy seeing Meryl Streep, Ann Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tuturi Unite. So you're in on that.

And then here's the other reason why. I don't know what this has about men. It's not too heavy. Unlike some dramatic sequels, this one is a celebratory reunion rather than a life-changing film. I guess the implication is men don't like heavy films or life-changing films. That doesn't seem fair. But they're just like, one of the reasons to bring them is, it's just not too heavy. It's not too deep. It's just fun. Just light-hearted. It's a light-beach-read kind of a thing. Exactly. All right. Reasons he might not enjoy it. It's gotta be good. Repeditive plot. Reviews note that the plot relies heavily on the formula of the first film, which might be predictable. Wow. A movie being formulaic. It's shocker. I watch horror movies, okay? Wait, this one is, yes, that's hilarious. This one is making me laugh so hard because I feel like this is a reason why you would like it. One of the reasons why they say he might not enjoy it. The lack of rhyme. The romantic subplots are described as dull and chemistry-free. So it's not a strong romantic movie. I'm okay with that. That's a plus for most men.

I'm okay with that. That's fine. I don't want to see that sad be shit. You're like, I don't really care about the romance part of it. So, okay, I actually think that goes into the category of why you should bring him. I'm still with you. The reasons he might not enjoy it. It's described as a softer or more sugary version of the original. So it loses some of the sharp satire that it was known for in its original. Yeah, because most guys remember the sharp satire from the first one. Okay, baby. Wait, this makes me laugh. I've never really done this AI thing, but they have a verdict. Okay. If he loved the first one or enjoys snappy dialogue and fashion, it's a solid choice. Okay. If he hated the first or if he prefers action over fashion world drama, he might want to sit this one out. What's the, what's the thing for gay best friend? GBF. GBF. I mean, obviously a GBF is an obvious choice for a day night. Yes. Okay. On this one. But I do think it's funny. They say, basically, whether or not you should bring your man to this sequel

depends on whether he enjoys nostalgic fashion driven comedy or does he prefer high stakes action. I believe that most women would be pretty safe to say that their men prefer the latter of the two. But to what you say is maybe this isn't about what your man prefers and just about the experience of the date night. Robes, there is, I have gone to places with you. You've gone to places with me that you would never have chosen to do on your own. The entire month of March could fall into that category for me. That is true. But Robes, places I've taken you and people you've hung out with. Places you've taken me and I've hung out with folks and done things I've never would have done. They were experiences. And you know what? I wouldn't have done it on my own. But I had a fricking blast watching you be happy or experiencing something new. It's just what it is. And if I said I didn't like it, you know what? You didn't take me the second or the third or the fourth time. It's okay. This is what a relationship is. And yes, Devil Wears Brada is another opportunity. A simple one to compromise in a relationship, to concede, to give something in a relationship

or from the other side to offer something, to bring somebody into your experience. Robes, this is very, I always say this is simple stuff. And if your relationship is struggling, this is an easy way to ease into compromise. Merrill Street can do it for you. I love that. That is such a good way to look at this. And you know what? I want to give you kudos. Because just two weeks ago, you sat through a musical on Broadway about the Cold War, which the focus and theme of that musical was chess. Yes. And you knew I love that musical and you came anyway. Yes, because I love a night out. Because you know what? I had a hot date that night. I got a good dinner. I had good drinks. My woman dressed up. She looked amazing. And I said around. I learned new things. I saw new people. And I saw wonderful talent on stage. Yes, Robes. I had a good night. I never, ever, ever want to see chess again.

But I had a wonderful night at chess. Amazing. So hope that helps. If any of you all were deciding who went where to see the devil wears prodded to make it happen and let us know what you think. But we will find it something. I don't know when we're seeing it. But when we do, if we have strong opinions, walk back on. But otherwise, we'll just enjoy it like the rest of you. And with that, everyone, thank you for listening to us. As always, we appreciate you. I made me robot alongside TJ Holmes. We will talk to you soon. Hey, it was good. And I learned a hard way with your favorite therapists and host care games. This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit of armor? It's similar to the world that you're not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to listen to

and learn the hard way on our radio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. When a group of women discover they've all dated the same prolific con artist.
