Shootout in Florida: Neurosurgeon-Turned-Fugitive Arrested

0:00It's March 4th in Tampa Bay. Let's get into the news. A former neurosurgeon and a U.S. Marshal got hurt in a shootout in Florida earlier this week. It happened near Varro Beach when Marshal's tried to arrest 72-year-old Thomas Stephens. He was wanted in Colorado for allegedly drugging a woman with prescription meds and sexually assaulting her. Investigators got a tip that Stephens was heading to South Florida on a bus. He had even said he would not go down without a fight. The task force members from the U.S. marshals spotted the vehicle and pulled it over. Stephens was in a passenger seat in ignored orders to get out. He then fired at the officers from inside the car. The marshals and detectives fired back, hitting him several times. One marshall took a bullet to the leg, but got treated and released from the hospital. Stephens ended up at a local hospital, too, and is expected to pull through despite his wounds. The local detectives walked away unharmed. Now Stephens faces attempted murder charges on top of the Colorado sexual assault case.
