Shonda Rhymes, the creator of Grey's Anatomy, recently addressed why aired Dane was not featured in the in-memorium segment at the Oscars. She pointed out that Dane was mainly known for television work, not movies, so the film-focused Oscars tribute didn't include him. Rhymes expects the Emmys to give him a proper honor soon. In her interview, the 56-year-old producer called Dane an incredible person, and said it is still hard for her to accept his passing. She described him as a wonderful, giving-guy who meant a lot to the Shonda Land in Grey's anatomy teams. Dane passed away at age 53 in February after battling ALS for less than a year. His family shared that he spent his final days with his wife, two daughters, and close friends, while advocating strongly for ALS awareness and research. During the Oscars on March 15th, a committee reviewed hundreds of requests to fit the segment's limited time. Those not shown live have their names listed on the Academy's website all year.
