04Yeah, that Chuck Norris was tracing the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The Rex was not chasing the Jeep. Murray, Murray, you there? You love sandwiches, huh? Let's go to 80. He was bow. Wow, that's prime time, maybe. Nah, I had a crush on Betty Rubble. I honestly, until after the segment ended and we went to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan Coachman was black. He caught them the game last night, although they won the game. You're listening to Stukatsu Company. We start today with Lucy Rodin, host of the college football happy hour with our friend Jessica, Mattana, how's the show going, Lucy? It's going great. I don't know if they can see the zoom name, but I'm login to Jess' zoom. I don't think they can see the zoom name. Why are you logged on to Jess' zoom? What's going on there? We record the podcast on her zoom and I just have never logged out of it. It's been embarrassing because I've had readings where I have to pop it.
04Sorry, not Jessica. Lucy here. Yes. How was it to have college football back in your life? You're exhausted already. I can see it. We're just a week one. You're exhausted. But how was it to have your favorite sport back in your life? It was awesome. And I obviously, you guys know I did not go into this weekend thinking like this is going to be a terrible slate like everybody else. I knew we would get something funky and weird and gross and we certainly did. And so when you have everything from, yeah, a bunch of blowouts to Oregon, almost losing their game, the just discussing this that happened in Ann Arbor to Florida state, not being able to get their stadium lights to work for two hours. Like that's my sport. That is the most like college football span of time there could possibly be. So it gave me everything I needed. Week two looks really good. It looks a little less good as it did like a couple months ago, but I'm very, very excited for this weekend. It's good to be back, but I did like have the sort of reality check this morning where I was like, oh, man, I'm not going to have a day off until January.
05Like this is every day. Lucy, I'm reeling right now because I was expecting that Florida state game to start at 730. It starts eventually at 9 p.m. First off, terrible game. Florida state has fallen off so far where there are three and 14 now in their last 17 ACC games. It's hard to say that was a terrible game, Taylor. I mean, uh, Ashton Daniels, it is hard to replace Thomas Castellanos at quarterback and somehow downgrade. And that's exactly what Florida state did with Ashton Daniels. He is supposed to be this fast quarterback, but everything he does looks like he's moving in slow motion. Yeah. It's like only it's just the most like first of all, only Florida state would like not be able to just turn the stadium on like that would be the problem for them. Second, as if you turn the ball over four times and Florida state was like, I'm really good with that. Like don't even worry about it. I we will let you be fine with your mistakes. We're not going to get in your face because of that. Like we don't want to be rude. It was this game should have been a blowout,
07but SM you just kept turning the ball over and they just kept doing dumb stuff. And then Florida state was like, well, if you're doing dumb stuff, what if we didn't even more dumb stuff? And then that was just the entire experience. It was very funny where every time like Mike Norval would call a time out or they chome on the jumbo drawn, you could just hear the crowd boo like a loudest they possibly could. So like congrats on the still the sold out crowd, but sorry about everything else. Lucy, you mentioned SMU having four turnovers teams that were minus four in the turnover margin last season went one and 40 last year. And Florida state somehow found a way to lose that game. So the power goes out there. They're trying to figure out how to how to play this game. The perfect representation of Florida state in 2026. Perfect perfect perfect representation in Jim Phillips is ACC in 2026. They kicked off that game without full stadium lights, yeah, without PA speakers, yeah, without ref mics, I love that without sideline iPads old school without coach to player communications.
11Awesome. Out of scoreboard. Yes. And without the ability to go to instant replay football back when goalie played. Yep. And the dirt football. We got back to basics. I enjoyed it for a half. Did you not? I mean Lucy, did you enjoy it or no? I was just looking at it funny. I so it was embarrassing because normally these like college football game days I spend them alone. I got too much to do. I can't be entertaining. But since this was like the one like singular game. I texted a buddy. I said, do you want to come watch the floor to stay game with me? It'll be fun. I swear. And then we're sitting at a bar with just. Be roll shots of the stadium when the lights were on for an hour and a half. And I was like, I'm so sorry, dude. It's like never happens. I swear this. I mean, it happens to floor and state this like really just not happen that often. And so we came back to my apartment, watched the first half. I enjoyed it because it was stupid. Like I enjoyed it because SMU kept doing dumb stuff and Florida state just couldn't do
11anything with the dumb stuff. And it's a Florida state. Interesting. They have good receivers. They have a great running back room. They just don't have anything else and they have no plan. And I saw this tweet that was perfect. That was like, well, Florida states got the best shot they can right now because Mike and Rebell can't talk to the players. Like this is their best opportunity. I think there was a point last night where Northern Vell went for the challenge flag and realized we don't have nothing's working. I can't challenge the boy. Yes, I like that. Yes. No more challenges. It is honestly a good system for Florida state. It's take as much decision making power that he has. They should just turn the power off for everything. I smell a conspiracy theory. Yes. I smell somebody in Florida states like, hey, I think we can. I think we can fix this. Just what this way. A parent. Apparently, it was like a college kid crashed into some like power thing and it had been broken for like a day. Right. Luce, someone's going to have to do that again. At the end of the game, I was begging for another power outage to stop having a watch
12this Florida state offense. And Ash and Daniels try to go down the field. Lucy, if we're like two years removed away from this FSU team, being a 13 and 0 team, left out of the playoffs when Travis gets hurt at the quarterback position, how do you kind of make sense of how quickly they fall off a cliff as a program? It was that year was sort of like a just kind of perfect storm of they had one of those really unique transfer portals. But if you look at how Florida state was building, it is not shocking now like 2020 where Mike Norvell was like not recruiting well. They seem to have a lot of dysfunction with coaches turnover and stuff like that. Like it they were so reliant on the portal without any sort of backup plan that would it all went to hell. They had no other options. And so the foundation was kind of there. They just had such an insane year with Jordan Travis with Jared verse with this like very
13talented roster where they are able to go 13 and 0. But you look at how they got there and it was just kind of fluky. And so also part of it is like I think TCU and Florida state two teams we look at now been like how did it fall so quickly? I honestly think Georgia killed them. I think Georgia is a little bit responsible. Like have you ever been beat so bad that it takes years to recover? I think that is what's happened to Florida state and TCU. Go ahead Mikey. Lucy today the news came out that the SEC filed an amendment and essentially they're asking if they can kick LSU out of the SEC. If it gets that far. How far is this going to go Lucy? Where do you see that? With a national championship. I don't think they're going to kick LSU out of the SEC. What this seems is like a power play right now. The SEC is very angry that they cannot enforce their own rules.
13The sort of conversation of the SEC breaking away from the rest of college with ball hasn't necessarily been about losing to the big 10 and you know, well, they haven't been a national championship games, but whatever. It's more of like, Hey, we don't have any ability to enforce our own rules right now. And that's what we want. So this is basically like a power move to LSU to be like, Hey, we have the power to kick you out. We just wanted you to keep that in mind because Lane Kiffin didn't add any professional players to the Clemson lineup. Like he listened to that tide. I do think it's important to note that it is not just Lane Kiffin. The soccer team added professional players will wait, will not sleep until he has a hole. He needs the Lakers GT like that is his goal in life. And so I don't think they'll kick them out. I think LSU. My whole thing is like will I'm more worried about will wait the Lane Kiffin because like Lane Kiffin back down will wait. It's just like a real liability. He really don't know what he's going to do. He might just say screw it. And so I don't think they're going to kick LSU out. This is a move to be like, Hey, you have to listen to the rules if you're in this conference,
16which I think is fair. Yeah. It's one week. It's early granted. But Taylor thinks that LSU is the best college football team of all time. You agree? Oh my God. Taylor. Sam Levin. I like Sam. He loves Sam Levin. He does. I mean, it's our not the like you're back in Florida and immediately a Florida man. That's crazy. You have to stop. You have to say it. Lucy, can the SEC stop with this whole boohoo LSU act? They need Lane Kiffin. They need LSU to be a national powerhouse. And then when my only complaint with this whole situation with Lane Kiffin is Lane Kiffin kind of plays both sides where he's like, why doesn't everybody like me? But then he also does things where he like, man, I really don't like Lane Kiffin. Like, after the game, when he's talking about Clemson, he was like, our scout team scored more against us. I was like, man, Lane, that's a, that's a great line. But then you can't go on college game day with Pat McAfee and have like a crying session about why don't more people like me. Yeah, he doesn't care. He's like an undiagnosed narcissist.
18Like, I think he genuinely has a personality disorder. And I'm cool with that. Like I look at Lane Kiffin as something that we need. I don't view Lane Kiffin as he is like college football needs a villain and he plays that role better than anybody. But I genuinely think it's a personality disorder. Like I really do. Did you hear the leaks like half time audio of his speech he gave? It was just like, talk you're up 30, you're up by 30 right now. Like this is insane. They're like, he's just screaming that everybody hates us and we have to prove that like they should hate us and they're like, they already do. I don't know what we're trying to do here. It's one of those things where college football needs Lane. Lane needs college football. I'm just going to let him live his life. I'm grateful for the entertainment. And I do think the SEC needs LSU, but I am not willing to go as far as the greatest college football team of all time because I don't think Clipson is particularly good. It's early. He's reserved. You know, he could change his opinion, but just right now. Yes. It's what we all have that takes.
20This might be a good take. We'll see. We'll see what happens. I'm still real and off my Oklahoma state is going to be a good team take. Such a terrible take. I thought Michigan was going to be good. I'm like so embarrassed. Right. You want to Missouri this weekend for the home opener? How was that? It was cool. We it was like hot as 80s. So to be honest, I left off the first quarter. And but here's the thing. I want to give credit to Mizzou. I had the best ice cream I've ever had in my life there. Really? Bucks, Bucks ice cream. Mizzou has an ag school. So they have a little spot where and a lot of schools have stuff like this where they have an ice cream shop that's just straight cow to facility to, you know, consumer. And so it's like operated by the students, I think. And it was the best ice cream I've ever had. The tiger stripe at Bucks is phenomenal. Like I don't even know the texture was perfect. It was phenomenal. There are like other schools I have this like, NC State has it. Taylor, I don't know if you ever went. They have it though in like a like a cow pasture.
21So it smells like like manure. And so it's not as like enjoyable of an experience. Taylor went to death Valley this weekend for the first time. Have you been to death? You've been to death Valley, right? No. I've been to yeah, been twice. I went with Lucy. Oh, that's right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I had no idea. I asked her one other game she went to this weekend. She said just Missouri. No, I've been to bad. Oh, that's right. Okay, I'm sorry. I confused. I mean, my bad because she said it three times. One of the things you'll notice every time I was listening all three times. When LSU plays home games, they'll put up a stat like LSU at night games is like 40 and two. Their last 42 games. And Lucy was at both losses. Right. You know what, Mikey? I should have used better judgment there. I just want to lose here. Go see. I mean, I'm terrible. Let's get to lose here. Go see. College football will hijack your weekend, ruin your sleep and break your heart.
25And that's why we make the Sullivan-verbal College football show. I'm Ty Hildenbrand. He's Dan Rubenstein. How's it going? And alongside my brother, Tank, the superstar R&B singer, songwriter, and producer, we've
27created something special, the R&B money podcast. This is not just a podcast. It's a safe space where artists, executives, and fans of R&B music come to reminisce, pull back the curtain and tell the stories that shaped this culture, the real history behind the hits. It's a good, hood famous. And then real love came out and it blew up. We lived in a project. And they were seeing all the success. They hear the music and we had nothing. We're covering the entire spectrum from Smokey Robinson, Alicia Keys, B2K, Mary J. Blige, Legends, Current Stars, and everyone who's contributed to the sound of R&B. You come out the gate with a hit. We talking to rap legends, hit making producers, rising stars from the golden era to the future this hip hop game where we keep it 100% unfiltered and keep it nothing but rock solid. Yeah. The thing about Jay Maap can you miss. He's been so great at being seen but mysterious. She's how I'm saying he don't got to come talk about nothing. You figure it out. 19:34The US open is back. That's right. Of incredible exciting tennis. Some outrageous over reactions from players and some hot takes from people who have, let's face it. No idea what they're talking about, but it's okay because I'm here for them and you. I'm Renee Stubbs and on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast I'll be breaking down everything that happens after big matches, who's playing the best tennis, who looks like they could possibly win this tournament. The surprise runs the heartbreaking exits and all the drama that only the US open can deliver. Coco looking real good. Her serve looks so much smoother than it has in the past. I was really happy to see Ega back to what she looked like a couple of years ago when she was winning dominantly. Listen, I'm going to let Venus decide when she wants to retire. I'm going to let the tournaments decide when they don't want to give her a walk-out because she still puts bums in seats. She still sells and people love to see her play. You always say on this show that this is the best predictor of who will do well at the US open. If this is a preview then we are in for a treat.
35Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the iHot Radio app Apple Podcasts all over. Ever you get you podcasts. Do you have something for Lucy or Lucy some props here? Lucy is this guy. Yes. Taylor Lidz gave this to me. Okay. And then, Lucy is going to be this Mizzou button. Okay. Because I haven't hung it up yet. He left it to the first quarter. It was like 95 degrees and they were up against Arkansas pine buff. Like if anybody was to fight me on that. Yes. No. Hero Club wasn't singing anything else. She wasn't just saying. Golden Lions. The Golden Lions. Anyway, I said that on air. And then you Lucy or Lucy. Davos Swinney will not survive the season as the head coach of Clemson.
37Goosey. Hmm. Do you guys know how much his bio does? How much? 57 million. What's that? It's no real money. Clemson does not have 57 million. I'm telling you that right now. Clemson fans are like very loud. Like we're not winning because we don't have money. So they are not firing depot. They do not have the money to fire him. All right. Lucy or Goosey. Ohio State, Texas. I care about it. But it really doesn't matter because both teams are making the playoffs. I'm going to go Goosey because you probably said that last year and then Texas didn't make the playoffs. I did. Yes. I asked you the same question. There you go. What's your Goosey Malachi Tony is the best player in college football? I think I want to go Lucy on this one and it makes me sick to my stomach because you guys are on my amy hater. I was watching that Stanford game. I was like, oh my god, it's going to be a long year for me.
38This is just really. He is unreal. I'd like to see how Jeremiah Smith looked very good against Ball State. And I obviously Stanford. I can't say obviously Stanford's better than Ball State. Like we can't really say that. It's Texas this weekend. We'll get to see Jeremiah Smith. I would have to pick if I picked three best players in college football right now. Malachi Tony, Jeremiah Smith and Trinidad Chambers. Lucy or Goosey. Kila and Russell is going to save Kaelin DeBoard's job at Alabama. I'm going to go Goosey on that. I still have concerns about Alabama watching that ECU game. A lot of people have that as an upset that obviously did not happen. Ryan Coleman Williams still can't catch anything, which that's a big concern for them. I don't feel confident in their run game. I thought their offensive line looked a little bit better, but against an ECU defense, not no discredits ECU. They're one of the better G6 teams, but I just don't have enough faith. I thought the choice for Kila and Russell over Austin Mac was the right choice, but I still
42think that I don't have Alabama making the playoff this year. I think that's enough that the fans are going to be really pissed. Lucy or Goosey Oregon is overrated. I like that. Okay, you guys, I'm going to go Goosey. Maybe that's because I picked Oregon and Win the National Championship and I just don't want to be embarrassed because I've been embarrassed a lot recently. But I don't look at the boys you stay game. I didn't look at that and it's like, oh my God, the way I looked at the Michigan game because Don Tamor looks great. For defense needs to like spruce and things up, that's a fantastic Boise State team. Maddox Matt's and had the game of his life there. Everything worked right for Boise State and Oregon just did some stupid stuff on special teams and they just were a little bit sloppy where I still think Oregon is very good and I think that game helps them more than playing Portland State. What of, what should they do? Play Portland State this year? I still think Oregon is very, very good and I think they'll benefit in the long run from playing Boise State who right now looks like the clear front runner to make the
43playoff. Like that was a playoff game. Lucy or Goosey, Michigan had no business celebrating that victory. I could not Lucy this harder. I'm telling you right now, Stu, if I met someone and they're like, yeah, I stormed the field against Western Michigan and that's enough of a red flag that I'm like, this is not. We can't be friends. We can't. You are like two, like we're not compatible. And genuinely, it is the biggest hit in the world that was embarrassing. You're supposed to be a good school, get off the field. And by the way, you guys are so worried about it. Everyone be mad at Michigan. You didn't be worried about Boise Underwood. That needs to be your top concern right now, not how everybody's angry at you. Your quarterback is awful. It felt like you spent $10 million. That's it. Not done. Yeah. It felt like Kyle Whittingham didn't want to celebrate that game. Well, he didn't. No. Why would he? Kyle, would you, he's better than Kyle? Had the most like, safe by the bell. Look at the break the fourth wall and be like, how did I get here? Look during that entire game.
43Like every time they pan to him, it was like, and then the like hand over the face. He just looked miserable. He was very much like, could have retired. Like this, this could have been over. I could have had him statue at Utah. It, they shouldn't have celebrated that game. They played terrible. They shouldn't have won that game. I still don't understand. This is the first time in my life. I see how people like get really deep into a crazy conspiracy theories and stuff like that because the big 10 tried to explain it to me and they had evidence. And I just was like, no, I don't believe it. That's the first time I, like this was the first time in my life. I've been like, okay, I see how he would not have to put a habit. It's like, I really, I get it because I don't believe it. Like I think it's made, what do you mean there's a set, there's a secret clock? Where's the secret clock at? Let me see it. The football gods will not allow Michigan to beat Oklahoma this week. Lucy or Goosey? I'm really going to go go see on this. I think, I'm very high on Oklahoma this year. I really think they're very, very good. I just know that like the way the universe works is like Michigan's going to look really good in that game or something like it's just going to be one of those things that it's
46done purposely despite me where Michigan will come out and look like the best team in the world or something. I'm hoping I'm wrong because I think Bryce underwood is very bad and I think Oklahoma's defense is very, very good. But I won't say it's like a lock right now. I think right now Oklahoma's a five and a half point favorite. So Vegas is still a little if you want it to Iowa has an offense. Lucy or Goosey? Wow. Amazing. Yes. Wow. Lucy. So good situation. Your situation. Do we have a quarterback? I don't know. Do we have a receiver? Heck yeah, we do. Tony Diaz, the UT Rio Grande Valley transfer has already changed my life. Stu, he turned down Alabama. He said that brother good Iowa. And was that a bad decision potentially? Yeah, no, it was. He looked awesome. Where Iowa is still doing this like silly thing where they are switching out quarterbacks like every three drives.
48And the one that looks like Morgan Wallen is doing a lot worse even though he's who I want it. And then the tall one that does it look like Morgan Wallen is doing better. And so I don't know if they're going to keep doing that against Iowa state. I don't like really love either of them at this point, but the offensive line looked phenomenal. The Northern Illinois is like insanely bad. Like one of the worst football teams I've ever seen. So I'm not trying to put too much weight into it. But Iowa has a receiver for the first time in forever. And my life is like it's the sun is shining brighter. I'm hearing the birds in the morning and they just keep singing Tony Diaz. I love him so much. Yes, I'll tell you. He needs a kidney you give me a call. All right, Taylor put on the poll. Can you have a wide receiver if you don't have a quarterback? We're going to find out. But right now you're feeling pretty good about it. I mean, you are. You should. I feel great. And I was like big 10 schedule is pretty easy compared to everybody else. And the only tough games on their Ohio State. Let's just we'll just put that. All right. I understand what that's going to look like.
48Washington who looked not fantastic this weekend and Michigan who looked terrible. Yes. I'm not sorry. I was going to play up. But I'm also not I'm not saying we're not going to play up. I'm not rolling it out. Yeah, I like it. All right. Lucy, you mentioned that the the birds just keep singing Tony Diaz over and over. And I've noticed that's a trend for you because too when I went to bat and Rouge with Lucy. Yes, we had a 30 minute drive from the airport. Boy, it's time. Yeah. And the entire car ride from the airport to the hotel. We listened to Colin Baton Rouge on repeat. We heard it about 30 times. It was cute until about the third time. Yeah. That becomes hell, right? Yeah. Taylor keeps bringing up this story everywhere we go. It's like I like introduced him to my friends and he was like, hey, do you want to hear this time that Lucy played the song over and over and over again? 30 times in a row. And. And then what I'll do is I'll play Colin Baton Rouge for people and they'll go, yeah, I'd love to let's know that 30 times in a row. So I think that is user error on Taylor's fault.
49This is Taylor doesn't even listen to music. So sorry, I'm trying to expand your palette. Sorry, I'm trying to embrace the experience. Operator wants you put me on through.
