Back in the 1960s, there was an advertisement for product called the Great Books and the byline was, “send me a man who reads.” I’m afraid nowadays that employers simply want someone who can read! In fact, a friend of mine who owns a factory in Pennsylvania simply won’t hire anybody underage forty-five. They’re too hard to train. The majority can’t pass a drug test. And there’s simply not the quality of anybody over forty-five who actually knows how to read because they went to public schools the public schools, produced a good education. How many employers want someone who’s been taught the “1619 Project” or “Critical Race Theory,” or want college graduates who majored in Gender Studies. Education used to mean “learning something practical” such as - how to read.
